I'm still not sure why the votes are represented in both a vertical and horizontal form. Why not just a horizontal bar growing with each vote? Seeing the results almost doubles the size of the scroll bar on my browser. Granted I'm at work so the resolution isn't the highest, but I' slightly confused by the choice to represent votes that way. That and there's really no button that says, "Click here to vote".
Meh... sounds like a lot of work to me... I like being on the reading-side of things for now :) Besides, what's an editor without an angry commenter around to interject about how the editor's opinions aren't as good as their own. I like to think I'm doing god's work <3
Between me and Witz? No, it was a HUGE majority for Witz. No contest. Me and the other three slobs in the contest were just there for show. Then Spoony whooped me. I don't even think I'm in the top five anymore.
I think this new "threaded" comments system really killed the chance of getting witty comments. It's deceiving, in that you look down and see six pages and think "Why should I comment? Nobody will see it anyway." In actuality, the thread only has maybe 20 comments, but a lot of people don't even even read anything past the first page.
You can look for yourself: If you look the first page has lots of responses. The second page, a couple maybe... After that, almost nothing. Even the biggest flamebait doesn't get a bite.
@PapaBear434: Well, you've got over 200. That probably puts you in the top ten, at least.
As for Comment of the Week being killed by threading? Nope. Ten bucks says it was edited out of existence by Gawker's "Fungineers" and the general reduction in quality commenting.
@PapaBear434: It's true. I noticed that after a while too. I like the new format, but I find it hard to believe that many would read after the first page. If I find the story really interesting, sure I might scan a few pages for comments. But usually the first page is where its at. If you post later then the first page, it almost feels like your comments aren't going to be read and really removes the incentive to post. Its like posting for a day old article, you might as well throw it out. Oh well. Good comments and good commentors will always find a way to shine through.
Wow! That's one awesome prize bag! I know a lot of people seem to want to be an editor for a day than the prize itself. Hey if anybody wins, I'll settle for the MGS binoculars. Yeah just send it my way peeps... =)
I'll gladly enter this. I know some people want their posts dripping with sexual innuendos! That or rage-hate filled rants. Yeah I'm your man! =)
Will apply! Maybe you guys could make some contest that would check writing skills, eh? So that the person who wins actually could contribute? Internship of sort?

Now that I think of it, whatever happened to Comment of the Week?
12/22/08
Comment of the week is pretty much dead for the time being because no one is submitting them these days.

Gosh darn it, I already am running two blogs, one on games (in English), one on books (in Polish), and I definitely would like to give it a shot.
Can't wait, guys, can't wait.
