Knowing that this post would serve as an E3 recap of sorts, I've categorized some things out in the jump. This covers stories that we tagged original; there might have been some others from the conference that didn't get that tag. Either way, this is our comprehensive E3 coverage list, so if you're not seeing something below, check that.

As a part-timer and the least experienced game writer on this staff, I had my own impressions of E3 which I will write up later, from an outsider's perspective. (I was only there Sunday and Monday). We all work in separate cities, and this event allows us a time to work together, in person. And the Kotaku staff of Fahey, Bash, McWhertor, Leigh, Adam, Maggie and of course, Crecente — with help from Gawker managing editor Noah Robischon in Los Angeles, and Jim Reilly working offsite on multimedia assets — came together like a team of superheroes to put out one hell of a report for you this week. They're all recovering this weekend, but show the Supa-Kotakufriends a little love in the comments.

<![CDATA[ Kotaku Originals: Make It a Blockbuster Week ]]> Epic week for the KO-riginals, friends. And this is just the runup to E3. Only next week could make this week's avalanche of fresh reported copy pale in comparison. Lots of pre-E3 leaks and reportage dominated Originals, not to mention Leigh digging into the bitchslap handed Jack Thompson to tell us he faces a fat fine, and Bash's hee-larious translation smash of the faek Wii HD. It was a lively half fortnight of reporting in Kotakopolis, refresh yourself with these highlights (and more after the jump.)

<![CDATA[ Kotaku Originals: We Hold These Truths to Be Self-Evident ]]>

That's right, four score and seven years ago today at Valley Forge, John F. Kennedy and the Lone Ranger chopped down the cherry tree that Squanto ate at the first Thanksgiving, and Paul Revere hung a light in the Alamo to alert Teddy Roosevelt's Rough Riders: "N00B, red team has taken teh control point, FAIL." Then Batman crossed the Atlantic in an X-Wing Fighter to accept the Heisman Trophy from Winston Churchill, and Martin Luther King Jr. said "God bless us, every one of us."

Oh wait, today's July 5th. Shit.

Well, for those in the USophile-speaking world, this is a three day weekend and you should still be burning large amounts of animal flesh on a grill for the next two days, or else you hate freedom. And for that reason, Kotaku's U.S. staff is on an abbreviated schedule today and tomorrow. Our updates will come every two hours today and tomorrow, then it's back to full-strength when Luke Plunkett and the freedom-hating Australians take up the cause late Sunday evening. Until then, I regret that I have but these stories (more after the jump) to give to my country:

<![CDATA[ Kotaku Originals: Recipe for a Douche Simulator ]]> I know the headline and the picture should try to say something about the story, but in truth, neither are in any way related. I just wanted to quote from Crecente's brilliant backhanded compliment to Ultimate Band for the Wii, which he said is "quite a bit of fun" despite acknowledging it "looks like a recipe for a douche simulator." I also could not resist repubbing McWhertor's awesome mashup (left) of Old Snake and the PS2, which ran in a report about Old Reliable's declining contribution to the Console Wars. Suffice to say that's my new comment icon. Because Playstation 2 is no hero. Never was. Never will be. Just an old killer, hired to do some wet work.

<![CDATA[ Kotaku Originals: Power to the Paper Trail ]]>

Sunday's major security breakdown in a marketing research firm's website opened up a flood of info and set Kotaku Originals off to a strong start early in the week. McWhertor then came up for air from leak coverage to give you a full breakdown of the epic (in scope, and in length) Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots.

Also, Tecmo asked everyone to be extraspecialcareful with rumors, and denied Team Ninja is bolting and suing everyone in sight, expecting that to be the end of that. Bash responded by digging up lawsuit docs and other reportage, with voluminous translation, that shows, yes, this is in fact about more than two semigruntled coders.

Major news week here at Kotaku, people. It pays to stay informed, and here's a roundup in case you missed anything. Full list follows highlights after the jump.

<![CDATA[ Kotaku Originals: With a Name Like (Fruit) Fuckers, It has to be Good ]]> Brian's repeated use of "Fruit Fucker" in headlines — Kotaku Originals, no less! — this week will be a watershed moment in my development here. Sort of like the time my father made the mistake of laying down guidelines for "acceptable" swearing when I was 11. Yeah. No putting the genie back in the toothpaste tube once your pre-pubescent son launches his first parentally guided F-missile (I claimed the "under duress" exemption). With that example of permissive child rearing, thank God there were no M-rated games in 1984. I might have grown up to be something truly reprehensible, like a boxing promoter or a congressman.

Where the fuck were we? Oh yes, our originals coverage. Here it is. Another big week in Kotakopolis. Enjoy.

<![CDATA[ Kotaku Originals: Enhanced Bar Dissment ]]> Big newsy week round these here parts of Kotakopolis. Lucasarts celebrated Lego Indiana Jones by pinkslipping a shitload of coders. Jack Thompson stomped out of his big parent-teacher conference and missed hearing a judge read the preamble to his professional obituary. Crecente and ESA's head rapped about the trade org's problems, namely big-name members walking out. Also developments in the big "Will and For Whom Will Take-Two Put Out?" saga. In all, a lot of stuff that had Kotaku's crack staff — special hat tip to News Editor Leigh Alexander — making phone calls, pulling docs and getting it all put together fast against the deadline. The week in Kotaku original reporting, with more after the jump, because there was lots.

Edit: Yes I changed the headline. I agonized for hours over how to pun that one, and it just now came to me. Carry on.

<![CDATA[ Kotaku Originals: Smooth Characters Aged in Oak ]]> Welcome back fair weekend readers. I promise a full two days of posting this go around, unlike my Memorial Day snafu that left you high and dry after half of Saturday. That said, we still pounded out a reason to mock Owen's alcohol tolerance worthy features and videos in the abbreviated week/end preceding.

Just to let y'all know, I seriously thought about pouring Lipton iced tea into an Early Times bottle and releasing a video of me downing two 16 ounce glasses of it in succession. But that would make me feel like Nicholas Cage in Leaving Las Vegas and after the thrilling conclusion to GTA: DUI, figured you could do without the self-pity and self-destruction, however staged.

Anyway, here's the week that was in Kotaku original reporting. Crecente doubled up on Wii Fit and tripled up on Far Cry 2; Fahey swooned over Age of Conan. Even if you didn't, something might pique your interest. Give it a look.

<![CDATA[ Kotaku Originals: Whole Lotta Whorelore ]]> You know, I could sit here and encapsulate the entire preceding week in Kotaku original journalism for you. But once you see that we reported on teh boobie (I saw your pageviews for the Jo Garcia feature), all else is static in your ears. So yes, there was a porn-slash-video game post this week. And it was barely beaten out by a look at live-action Chun Li, who more resembles someone cast for China Beach in her publicity shot (above left). Like I said, as a young boy, I loved the old Roy Thomas John Buscema/Barry Windsor-Smith tits-and-axe "Savage Sword of Conan" paintings. Until I saw that M*A*S*H* where some wounded soldier got a POV sponge bath from Hot Lips Houlihan (no, I'm not making that up, it was Nov. 20, 1978). So this week, we have synthesis.

<![CDATA[ Kotaku Originals: Grab Your Meat Shields ]]> We were back to the usual forty-elebemteen-million Originals posts this week, and not all of it was Crecente mining EA Games Spring Break 08 or the Xbox 360 Spring Showcase, either. LucasArts and the ESA are splitsville. Sony announced its PS3 lineup through early '09. EA announced some numbers and said it's no longer providing quarterly guidance which, snark aside, I'd like to see more public companies do.
But of course no news sells like sex, and Leigh's interview with Playboy Cyber Girl of the Year Jo Garcia on her gaming habits trafficked some amazing readership. The week in Kotaku original reportage, below:

<![CDATA[ Kotaku Originals: The Cool Sub ]]> 775220_classroom.jpgGood morning class. Your cool substitute teacher Owen is here to let you goof off and get away with shit that Mr. Crecente doesn't allow. For the next two days anyway. Just so long as you keep your spitwads and paper airplanes away from me.

So, uh, here's your reading list. Komrade Kayce, please pass these out to the rest of the class. Thank you. Be prepared to discuss the nature of symbolism, specifically themes regarding coping with death, in "My PlayStation 2.5". Now, let me pour a mug from this thermos that is absolutely nothing but coffee and don't you little bastards dare suggest otherwise or spread rumors.

On another note, does anyone have any useful or economical suggestions for doing console video-game footage captures onto a Macintosh (with no RCA video board input)? I've tried the Pinnacle "Dazzle" video transfer for Mac. It's a piece of shit. Can't even get a signal. This question is germane to something Adam Barenblat and I hope to deliver next weekend.

<![CDATA[ Kotaku Originals: Leaked Online Now ]]> Busy times for the last full week leading up to the GTA IV release. We had two pirated releases, a probe into gamers stupid enough to play them with Xbox Live enabled, and a desperate attempt out in Holland to get stores to sell it early. Nuh-uh. Nice try though. And no one stateside was able to convince their local Gamestop to slip a copy early. Someone will, though. Just wait.

<![CDATA[ Kotaku Originals: System is Very Busy Now ]]> batality.jpgSweet Baby Jesus. I'm keeping this originals intro ridiculously short because the originals list is ridiculously long. Forty-one pieces of original reporting, mostly because we were at Midway Gamer's Day and Namco Bandai Editor's Day. The proverbial one legged man in an asskicking contest is the Maytag Man next to us. Because when we kick ass, we use both legs and both arms, and a headbutt or too. <![CDATA[ Originals: The Eyes of Fanboy Are Upon You ]]> brainnnnnnnnsssss.jpgHappy Saturday to all of you out in Kotakopolis. Here's a quick recap of our original stories in the past week, highlighted by Flynn getting sucked into a real-life, real-time spy mystery like a wide-eyed, amnesiac Matt Damon.

We also got looks at child labor inside the Bashcraft origami household sweatshop, and a set of diapers for leaky bladder Fahey. Let's not forget Crecente's magnum opus on Grand Theft Auto IV's multiplayer modes, four in all, and a followup.

Finally, for a week that began by asking for gamers to confess their neurotic behavior, we got a picture of that guy to the left, which does a fine job of answering the question. If you missed any of these stories now's your chance to catch up before we hit the weekend report.

(Also, this is as good a space as any to ask this, since it isn't worth a post unto itself. I'm looking for some good gaming headphones. If any of you have a favorite pair, let me know in the comments. I take my audio pretty seriously. Thanks.)

<![CDATA[ Kotaku Originals: Say It With Cake ]]> kaketaku.jpgKotaku's grand bake sale this week delivered almost two dozen piping-hot reports, led by Crecente's hands-on breakdown of Grand Theft Auto IV. It got much love on the social bookmark sites and clocked in more than 100K reads, which massages Brian's ego nicely. And that's just what we need more of. Have I told you about the time he asked me if I thought people practiced their laughs? He was serious. I guess he works on his.

Other heavy-hitters included reviews by Fahey and Luke on Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII for the PSP and Grand Turismo 5 Prologue for the PS3, respectively. Flynn was our man at THQ Gamers' Day '08 and brought back looks at three titles. We also kicked the week off with a pissin' contest with the lawyer-mans over some Sonic Unleashed leaks and such.

In all Kotaku was on a mission of justice for you, dear reader, and that's not even counting the chuckalicious Kaketaku series on April Fool's. Check 'em out.

<![CDATA[ Kotaku Originals: Video Games in the City ]]> This was a pretty busy week for us. We managed to get two reviews up this week as well as a plea to someone named Brain. There was plenty of Ninja Gaiden: Dragon Sword news from reviews and interviews to loose talk about it being connected to the stabbing rampage of a 24-year-old in Japan. Next weekend we'll have our new weekend writer on board and later in the month a new mystery writer. WRITER X!!! I totally need to get her a wrestling mask.

<![CDATA[ Kotaku Originals: From Gygax to Our First Review ]]> sporeorignal.jpg It was a pretty packed week here at Kotaku Tower. We managed to roll out our first review under a new system we created to cut through the BS. Gary Gygax, creator of Dungeons and Dragons, passed away quietly in his home. We clued readers in on Larry Nivens' new game and liveblogged the unveiling of Gizmonodo 2.0... which sounds surprisingly similar to Gizmondo 1.0. Oh and don't forget everyone and their mother is now making iPhone games.
