It's producer Nobuyoshi Sano doing his best Steve Jobs impersonation as he presents to the world a new, improved version of the Korg DS-10 synthesiser for the Nintendo DS.

Built to take advantage of the DSi, DS-10 Plus multiplies the output of the original synthesiser title, giving you four analogue synths, eight drum synths, 12 tracks and, with the DSi, the ability to edit in real-time.

The product is exciting enough. The announcement, pure comedy gold. Korg DS-10 Plus will be out in Japan this September.

<![CDATA[You're Running Out Of Excuses To Not Buy A Korg DS-10]]> The Korg DS-10 synthesiser, for all its inherent brilliance, hasn't been widely available in the US. That's about to change. Mega-retailer GameStop will soon be stocking the program, and are now accepting preorders.

They'll start selling it on February 9, and what's more, will be selling it for only $30, a saving of 50% off the originally-intended price. At that price, and with that kind of availability, you'll be betraying your DS and everything it stands for if you don't at least think about it.

<![CDATA[iPhone, DS, Touch and Kaossilator Make Beautiful Music Together]]> In this video you see jetdaisuke jamming with an iPhone, two DS, iPod Touch and Kaossilator.

The iPhone has Bloom on it and the iPod touch has Mokugyo. He's using one DS to run Electroplankton and another to run KORG DS-10. The whole thing is backed up with the touchy Kaossilator. This is where chipmusic is headed.

<![CDATA[Throw Four Korg DS-10's Together, You Got Yourself A Hoedown]]> Last month, four Australians got together at a record label party. Each had a copy of the Korg DS-10 synthesiser for the Nintendo DS. The four joined forces, improvised then rocked out.

You can catch an mp3 of the event - IF Records' 13th birthday party - here. Not the greatest of tunes, I know (unless, hey, you like this kind of thing), but remember: that was made by four people, jamming, on a humble little Nintendo DS synthesiser.

Which makes it so, so impressive.

Just in case you weren't already sold on the neat stuff the Korg DS-10 synthesiser could do, along comes Jetdaisuke and his bendy plastic straw.

Brilliant.

<![CDATA[Here's Where You Can Get The KORG DS-10]]> The KORG DS-10, which is basically a synthesiser for your DS, is about the most exciting piece of software for the handheld we've seen in months. Make of that what you will. Problem is, because it's going to be a niche product - and one with a $40 price tag - some retailers are refusing to stock it. Like Target. Target won't be stocking it. GameStop won't be either. And, crucially, Best Buy are still on the fence. So here's a list of places you can get the game from, when it's released on November 4.

* Hollywood/GameCrazy
* Fry's
* Micro Center
* EB Canada
* J&R

Note that's EB Canada and EB Canada only. Like we said, GameStop in the US won't be stocking it.

Of course, all of this is meaningless if you were planning on buying the game on these internets, since you shouldn't have any problems tracking down an online retailer, but some people still enjoy the feeling of leaving the house in exchange for new goods, so there you go.

<![CDATA[First Album Recorded Using DS KORG Emulator Released]]> ..and by 'Released' we mean 'put up on a website in a Zip file'. Say what you like about the democratizing power of the internet - it does rather suck the glamour out of album launches.

Anyway, what we have here is a cracking little collection of musical experiments created using the KORG DS-10 emulator for the Nintendo DS, for a competition at MP3Death.us/diplodocus.

I listened to all twelve tracks on the way home tonight and it is mainly what you would expect - squirly, twiddly synth sounds and squelchy beats. Some tracks have quite an 8-bit soundtrack feel — Aliceffek's 'Toneworks' is great fun and would not sound out of place on a Commodore 64 platformer — while the brilliant 'DSTennis' by A Rival is reminiscent of Hexstatic's 'Bass Invader.'

It may not be to everyone's taste, but you have to be slightly agog that this stuff started life on a little handheld games console. The competition to create this took place over just 24 hours - imagine what could be done with an extra couple of days..

Presented here for your listening pleasure - 'Sand' by Starpause.

<![CDATA[This Is No Music Game, Dammit ]]> This is not a game. I repeat, this is not a game. Based on the Korg MS-10, Korg DS-10 is a music tool packed in DS software. It allows up to eight DSes to connect by ad-hoc wireless. The soundboard interface looks like an actual Korg synthesizer soundboard with knobs that can be rotated and turned and jacks that can be plugged into and switch by simply drawing lines. And since it is a straight up synthesizer on DS software, the chart of full scale musical notes might seem intimidating. It's possible to create full, rich layered tunes that range from a minute and a half to five minutes. Developer Cavia included a "Chaos Pad" that simply lets users "draw" on the touch screen and it maps out corresponding notes. Perfect for noodlers.

<![CDATA[Yay! Korg's DS-10 Synthesizer Isn't Japan Only]]> Yes, I've been a bit obsessed with the Korg DS-10 synthesizer software since it was announced by AQI. Fortunately, it seems that others share my passion for making electronic musical diversions, as the company has responded to (I assume) BILLIONS of requests for a global release. Turns out, Korg DS-10 isn't Japan only, as previously thought.

Tomi from AQI let prospective fans know in a rare English-language update "YES, we will release DS-10 worldwide and currently we're making an adjustment with each territory. So please be patient." Fantastic! Who shall be brave

<![CDATA[Korg's Nintendo DS Synth In Action]]>

We posted about Korg's DS-10 software the other day, the music app that makes your Nintendo DS a pretty capable sequencer and synthesizer. What we neglected to do was include helpful video of the software in action. Looks perfect for those of us lacking in rhythm and pitch detection. Musically incapable, unite!
