@kourkoo: Ditto. GTA obviously had the negative influence on the kid if he felt driving the car was a-OK after driving them in GTA.

I say the blame goes 50/50. 50% on the ridiculously negligent parents and 50% on the game itself.

GTA SHOULD NOT BE PLAYED BY 6 YEAR OLD KIDS.

How stupid or negligent do you have to be to look at a game that was advertised to high-heavens for the mature game that it is, on top of getting negative reviews because of it's mature content and get it for your 6 year old child? Ignorance is no excuse.

In this day and age if a parent let their 6 year od child watch interview with a vampire or SAW people would blame no one but the parents but when it's a game, people blame everyone except the parents. It's stupid and insane and the children deserve a better home.

He may have thought he could drive because of those games, but they did not teach him how to drive, and not only because he crashed the car. No, the game doesn't tell you about putting the car into th proper gear, or controlling your speed via the pedal system, or even how to turn over the ignition. Nah, this kids just straight-up awesome. He picked it up all himself.

@shaker28: Well to be fair...they did leave the child alone to do something incredibly dangerous, not only to the child but to others on the road. Not to mention allowing a SIX year old the opportunity to get into a car, drive six miles and oh play GTA.

Boys being boys doesnn't apply here. It's just neglectful parenting.

@NeVeRMoRe666: You can't be everywhere at once. If I wanted, I could go downstairs right now, grab the keys, and drive to Mexico. My Dad wouldn't notice for a while. He simply can't know where I am every second of the day, and he isn't even home most of the time, he's at work. Maybe the kid went to the bus stop, realized he missed the bus, and his parents had left the house by then. We don't know.

@RadarTrap: But your parents probably thought you the difference between movies/games and real life, this kid was waaay too young to be playing GTA. There's also the fact that the games we grew up on were more cartoony and less realistic (I'm assuming you grew up during the Snes/megadrive era at the latest).

As another example, I have a friend who has let his kid play GTA and other mature games since he was 4, the kid now has an unnatural hatred towards the police (unnatural as in he doesn't have a reason like most of us :P ).
