Why is that? Hrm. According to the movie's producer Patrick Aiello, the filmmakers and Capcom decided to have this film focus on the origin of Chun-Li. Continuing, Aiello adds:

There are just way too many characters in the Street Fighter universe to cram them all into one film. We want to do each one the justice he/she deserves. So, in short, Ken and Ryu will not be appearing in this film. But, that doesn’t mean we wont see our red and white-clad heroes in potential sequels...

If this Chun-Li flick does decent business, just watch as Capcom goes sequel silly. (Not that it's ever done that in the past!) The film's producer does offer interesting insights on how they plan on adapting Street Fighter to the silver screen and stay true to the game's roots:

Now, as a result of this approach, it’d be silly to put Neal McDonough’s Bison in a bright red suit and captain’s hat with a pair of humongous shoulder pads. It works great in the video game, but in real life, it just wouldn’t look intimidating. The same can be said for Balrog. He’s an enforcer. A killer. A take-no-shit brawler to the core. And so, how scary would he be on screen if he beat people up with boxing gloves and a pair of blue short-shorts?

All that said, do not worry. We haven’t turned a blind eye on the game we all know and love. At some point, Chun Li will sport her trademark buns (the ones in her HAIR!) and of course, Vega’s still got the mask and claw, for starters.

Regarding the tone, I’m pleased to say we are certainly not going for camp or cheese or any kind of laughs. A lot of blood, sweat and tears went into the making of this film, and, you’re gonna see a lot of those ON film as well.

If it's done well, people should give the filmmakers room to breathe. It's been that way with comic book films in the past — like look at the respectful liberties Sam Raimi took with Spider-Man.

<![CDATA[ We Love Golf Details ]]> While We Love Golf wasn't playable at Capcom's Digital Day we did get a few more details on the Camelot Software developed game. Two new exclusive characters are being developed for the western market although there was no announcement about who they will be. We did find out however the results of the vote on Capcom's site concerning two unlockable Capcom themed costumes. Not surprisingly, Ken and Morrigan will be joining the ranks of Arthur, Chun-Li and Jill Valentine as unlockable costumes for your golfing characters. The gameplay will be your standard golf game fair with the Wii remote being used like a golf club. Online play will be available through Friend Play and World Play modes

<![CDATA[ Gallery: Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix ]]> Take a gander at these gorgeous Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix screens. These fourteen screen shots only feature SF poster boys Ken and Ryu so if you're looking to see other character art, it's not here. The thing to really look at though is the backgrounds which are just beautiful.

<![CDATA[ Chun-Li And Ken Battle in 3D Korean MMO ]]> Game site Insert Credit directs our attention to Korean MMO Perfect KO, which has Street Fighter's Ken and Chun-Li as playable and customizable 3D characters. What's more, the game's developer Neowiz is open to including character licenses from other fighters as well! As Insert Credit explains, the game is a 6-or-less simultaneous fighter with 3-on-3 matches and a survival mode. Beta test kicks off December 6th, and Ken will be playable. If more fighters are added, they should really call this fighter Neowiz vs. Capcom vs. SNK vs. SEGA vs. Tecmo vs. Namco.

<![CDATA[ Clip: Street Fighter For Reals ]]>

It might not have the sophistication of Street Fighter: The Later Years and the camera work may have you running for the Dramamine, but these guys go all out with their staged recreation of a battle between Street Fighter heavy weights, Ken and Ryu. A few points of interest: Ken's wig is terrifying, the moving life bar is genius and never underestimate the power of a guy in a black body suit to create the illusion of a perfect Hadouken.

<![CDATA[ Ken <3s Ryu ]]>

Ryu and Ken were totally showboating outside the convention center when I left PAX tonight. I wonder if Ryu knows Ken has a thing for him? It's so sad.

<![CDATA[ Super Street Fighter Brothers ]]> YATAI!Frequent tipster and previously covered talented artiste James "Torokun" Chung updated his deviantArt gallery and fortunately Kotaku reader Garrett was nice enough to let us know about it.

Torokun's recent piece features a fantastic mash up of two groundbreaking series, Super Mario Bros. and Street Fighter II, with Ryu, Ken, and Chun Li as Mario, Luigi, and Princess Peach respectively. Awesome work, but I really would have loved to have seen the Blanka/Goomba blend. And, seriously, those Chun Li thighs—I know they're supposed to be big but those are FREAKY! Check out the gallery for the full-sized version.

Good work as always, James.
