Technical foibles and difficulty spikes aside, this was one of those few games that was more than the sum of its parts.
Both my housemate and myself toiled away for hours trying to take out that fucking truck at the buld site, or getting out of that fucking plaza in Havana, but we kept at it till the end.
There aren't a lot of games I'd give such a wide berth, so they must have been doing something right. #kanelynch2dogdays
I never finished the first game. I have it here for PC too. THe story was good, great even but the game was let down by it's mechanics, it just didn't feel liek a tight gaming experiance.
If they've tightened up the gameplay though, I'd be interested in checking out a sequal, it certainly has promise. #kanelynch2dogdays
Kane and Lynch sold rather well for a new IP even considering the low ratings by reviewers and luke-warm reception from gamers.
If Eidos fixed the original issues with the first game (frame rate, shooting problems, cover problems, everything else), would anyone here consider buying the second? Obviously, Eidos have their work cut out for them, but I would be willing to give the franchise another shot. The premise and plot to Kane and Lynch hooked me way before I read about the game play issues.
Essentially, I'd call this a second chance to turn the original failure into something great. #kanelynch2dogdays
@DefSheppard: I actually enjoyed Kane & Lynch up until the South America part that honestly, sucked real fucking bad. It went from gritty crime film to 1980s Gary Busey action film in the space of a loading screen. #kanelynch2dogdays
@DefSheppard: You brought something to mind with your comment.
What we'll be seeing over the next year or so is EA and Ubisofts, among others, new IPs getting their second chance and they could possibly grow into very profitable franchises.
At the same time though Activision is continuing to milk their IPs and we're seeing more people becoming tired of what their putting out. It's as if they're beginning to stagnate.
It'll be interesting to see which strategy pays off.
Hopefully this one will be better. People keep saying the first one was horrible and I do have to disagree. Although I don't think it was an amazing game, it was fun for what it was and was interesting. The multiplayer was slightly interesting too a mix of co-op and versus. I am sure they have learned from the mistakes they made and are going to make this one much better. #kanelynch2dogdays
This just shows how far Eidos has fallen in the past 5-7 years. Who in their right mind would stop and honestly say to a game exec, "Hey, let's make a sequel to Kane and Lynch!"
Seriously, it is borderline retardation to even think such nonsense. #kanelynch2dogdays
@Tre_Green: Well, they are making a Kane and Lynch movie and Bruce Willis is apparently signed on. So that being the case, a sequel is probably inevitable. #kanelynch2dogdays
Don't underestimate Simon Crane. He's much more than a stunt coordinator. He's directed some major movies, but only gotten credited as a 2nd unit director due to... politics. #brucewillis
Why does Hollywood continue to pick up bad games for movies? Halo and Bioshock movies are dead in the water, yet we have to deal with this shenanigans. Great. #brucewillis
@Benjammn: Not every game is movie-material. Kane and Lynch has a great concept with recognizable characters that can be worked into a movie (something similar to Heat, Boondock Saints, etc).
Halo on the other hand, you dont even have a face for the main character... same with Bioshock. When you say bioshock, most gamers or nongamers can tell you about that water suit monster. That's about it. #brucewillis
@Benjammn: I think it's because there isn't necessarily a 1-1 correspondence in terms of elements that work for certain types of media.
Eg: The designs for the X-Men characters probably wouldn't go so well on the silver screen, but they work fine in the comics. Or, for Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within-- the plot and the aesthetic would have worked for video games, but they sure as hell didn't for the movie unfortunately.
I think for video games in general (and perhaps comics), the experience is so much more extensive, it's difficult to translate that feeling to film, unless you can pull something of like Lord of the Rings or any truly epic movie. And when I say extensive, I mean that people spend hours upon hours playing a single title, but a movie lasts only a few 2 to a few hours.
In terms of Halo or Bioshock, the content in those games are very high-risk for studios to push, at least to me. A larger audience is likely to accept Kane and Lynch over the other two games. Sucks, but it's probably true.
To capture the essence of Halo or Bioshock, the budget would most likely be insane-- plus, the producers will have to deal with video game sensibilities. Their respective studios are probably aware of that too and are unlikely to be so clairvoyant in allowing third parties to meddle with he lore of their big name titles.
Apparently, there are some differences in the movie script of Kaine and Lynch, so who knows, maybe it'll be good. #brucewillis
@rich8606: Honestly I think Bruce and BillyBob would have a great dynamic on screen. Now whether or not it's the Kane & Lynch dynamic I wouldn't know unfortunately...
but hey since I'm broke maybe I'll go pick it up used for cheap... #brucewillis
@rich8606: I'm stupid. I did know that. I just didn't think of it at the time because, well, I'm not smart. haha. Thanks for pointing that out. #brucewillis
