The game is not even close to being an eyesore. Granted, it had gratuitous uses of purple in the Enchanted Realm and the bloom lighting was cranked a little too high, but other than those two things the game is still a looker. I played it for the first time this summer and it certainly was no eyesore, I'll tell you that.
Bummer about the possible sequel being possibly canceled. I enjoyed the game's premise and I thought the game was decently executed but it felt VERY rushed. It being a launch title pretty much lets you know why. Seeing as the game had a pretty long development cycle and all that the unlockable art galleries/alpha videos reveal lots of things being canned (like some sort of dragon sidekick for Kameo), I'm certain a very large amount of planned content had to be scrapped. Such a bummer that it was all scrapped for the game to make it in time for launch. I was hoping for all the neat things to be implemented in a second game, but it looks like it's not happening any time soon, sadly. #kameo
@NoBullet:
Eyesore is a bit harsh, but seriously a game whose color pallet consists of everything is a little tough to look at sometimes. Color should be used to highlight specific things are, like key elements or items, but this game was a little overwhelming, I thought. #kameo
@(Human) Gyaruson: Or you might hate yourself for playing it. Borderlands was very meh for me. Diablo in FPS form, absolutely nothing appealing about that.
As for Kameo, I actually enjoyed the title at launch of the system. That and Condemned kept me playing quite a bit. The online for Kameo was terrible, but the singleplayer was actually pretty solid, it just had tough competition. #kameo
@PxDnNinja:
Actually I thought that for launch Kameo was pretty close to the best thing available. Condemned was great, CoD2 was passable and DOA4 was decent, but everything elese pretty much fell flat. #kameo
@(Human) Gyaruson: I can agree with that, though DOA4 wasn't really a launch title. It was pushed back I believe 4 or 5 months just before launch. Nonetheless, Kameo was pretty tight and well made. Hell I might have to go play again once I finish MW2, Dragons Age, and Demons Souls.....
I might cry. I have a lot to get through now that I type that out lol. #kameo
@PxDnNinja:
Ah, it just missed the one-month launch window by a couple days. It came out on December 29th (after Christmas, WTF?!) and the Xbox 360 came out on Novermber 22nd. #kameo
@(Human) Gyaruson: That's right. Forgot it wasn't that far behind the launch. I worked at Gamestop during the launch and with the console shortage it was chaos. We had 100+ preorders for the console paid in full and only got 11 consoles in. #kameo
@Areinu:
What specifically are you looking for? Launch titles are everywhere, you just have to look in the bargain bins of used game stores. Normally you can find them for uber-cheap, too. #kameo
@Areinu: I bought my copy over the summer for $3.50 on Amazon. It was a gently used copy, but I was very pleasantly surprised when I got a non-Platinum-Hits version. #kameo
@(Human) Gyaruson: Right. Because games can suddenly have conversations with you? Please. What is it with using stupid phrases like "(Game X) wants to have word with you" and "(Game X) says hello".
@Masonvrocks: Simple, by not trolling.
Kameo wasn't panned in any lengths, and it seems the only person who is really excited over this device/gimmick is Peter Molyneux, a man who is so enthusiastic about his projects (a good thing, mind you) and ends up over-promising and under-delivers to the point where I know his games are going to be great, yet I'm not going to believe him until I see the finished project.
And please understand, outside of a very slim few, no special peripheral that wasn't packed into the main system really got much support. PS2 modem and Hard Drive, Gamecube modem, Eyetoy, PocketStation, Activator, SuperScope, Menacer, GBA connection cable to name a few.
Could you tell me why you are looking forward to Natal? #kameo
@Masonvrocks: Wii motion plus has yet to get major support. I suppose it's far too soon for that call to be made.
I did consider the "music controller" and the "dance pad" to be part of the slim few "successful add-ons", alongside the Guncon 45 (for PS1) and the Guncon 2 (for PS2) that I can think off hand as far as non-bundled gizmos are concerned.
You need to read stuff online with a brighter perspective there. I never said ANY system was a P.O.S., I just feel the Natal (said "piece of hardware") and the bizarre PS3 motion control wand are nothing to write home about; a lame attempt at screaming "me too!" to the Wii done far too late. #kameo
@Masonvrocks: You could do that, but it'd be a false comparison. The guitars and dance pads are used only for their respective games, and those games are compelling enough that the extra cost on the bundle packs are worth it.
Wii Motion Plus is the closest thing to relevant here, but it's also a pack in. And pack ins are much easier to sell than stand alone peripherals. The vast majority of Wii Motion Plus sales are due to Tiger Woods 2010's pack in and Wii Sports Resort.
And even then, it's not really seeing huge adoption yet, with only 2 announced or released Wii Motion Plus exclusive games: Wii Sports Resort, and Red Steel 2, and relatively few games that even support it.
Stuff that doesn't come bundled in with the console is a hard sell to developers. Stuff that you have to spend a bit of money on just to get and isn't packed in with software that you really want to have is an even harder sell to consumers. #kameo
@Masonvrocks: I'm more referring to pack-ins to full consoles. Much like how Nintendo marketed the NES with the Robot and the Zapper light gun. The Zapper got a lot of use, but the robot didn't yet it would still statistically have a better chance at success than the Power Glove.
I'm no fanboy when I frequently tout "It's the games, silly" and advise people to adhere to the "Rule of Five" when considering purchasing a new system. (If there's 5 games, out RIGHT NOW, that you want to play that's not on a system you don't own, then buy that system).
I might work in the industry, but the big three sure as hell don't cut me a check for defending or slamming the systems.
NOO!!! Damn you, Natal! Damn you to hell!
Kameo is one of the greatest Xbox 360 games of all time. Perhaps the only game that can compare is Perfect Dark Zero. #kameo
One of my "shrink-wrap" games I still haven't gotten around to playing. I probably contributed to the count when I picked up it for $10. Is it that bad? #kameo
@MooglesInMyFace: dude.. little big planets sold over 2 mil, ratchet and clank future sold like 1 and a half i think.. which isnt bad considering the first probably didnt do much more than 2 - 3 mil on a vastly more popular console.
oh and mario is still selling in the 10s of millions, sonic still manages to move 1 - 2 million every appearance he makes, the lego games always sell in the millions.
the problem is that there just arent that many high profile platform games coming out these days, when they were the genre to beat in the 16 bit era, plus the licensed platformers usually had some strong showings in the 2d days. #kameo
Bringing up mario is pointless. I was going to explain how it was an anomaly but I figured it was common knowledge. And actually the last "real" mario game(galaxy) sold BELOW expectations.
Ratchet & Clank may have sold 1 million copies, but for a 1st party exclusive title that isn't great. It ain't exactly Halo or Metal Gear(not first party, I know but its exclusive) numbers.
My point was that platformers really are a dying genre sadly enough. Mario is the only platformer game that consistently sells and that's because it's Mario.
Kameo did ok for being a launch title. #kameo
@MooglesInMyFace: well kameo was simply just an "ok" game, but my point is that when a good platformer comes out.. it does alright, but they dont make as many as they probably should.
if you look back to the old days though, they were almost all japanese or licensed games.. and the licensed ones nowadays mostly suck.
but the statement you made about ratchet and clank isnt really a good point considering its never done halo or metal gear solid numbers.. in fact.. most first party sony games have never done those kinds of numbers. i mean.. look at god of war or killzone 2.. neither one of those games have sold more than probably 3 mil.
another problem with platform games sales is that its a genre with little replay value aimed at kids. so that means kids beat em, trade em in.. and other kids/parents buy the used copies.. so the new sales hardly grow over time. people arent holding onto a game like ratchet like they would killzone or fallout.
so yeah.. with all those things considered, i think platformers sell well when they do come out, but they just dont come out enough.
