"some interface elements changed to better take advantage of the Xbox 360 controller"
Or, in other words, lots of radial menus have been added to compensate for the crippling lack of mouse and keyboard. Maybe next year they'll patch in Natal support so you that you literally can point and click.
@BritBloke916: Hahaha, so sad but true. A game like this really needs to be on the PC, I don't understand what they're thinking. For some reason, I don't see this selling well on the 360. And it'll be a shame since I loved the first Tropico =/
Here's hoping for a PC version (which there better be...)
I signed up for the beta but I never got in :( Bummer.
This game looks really neat. Hopefully they fixed the pacing problem that was there in the first game. Even on the highest speed, I couldn't help but feel it was running a bit too slow.
It was better trying to run a Cuba-esque government.
Nothing is quite as satisfying as ordering hitmen to 'dispose' of a chief political rival. Or a complainer. Or just some random peasant because you feel like being an ass.
No, something far, far different. Think the building and construction of Sim City/Sim Island, the infrastructure/supply system of Railroad Tycoon and the control as any true leader would have. Shake with a little Civilization and serve.
There will be people trying to oust you from power if you're not popular enough. Be wary of Americans at your doorstep trying to buy out chunks of your country. If you want to be a tyrant, go right ahead, just be prepared to have to marshal your army to quell rioting peasents. Or kill some of them to keep the rest in line.
Make an island of banana huts, or industrialize and start putting in schools and hospitals and condos.
Love the games. The second one was a pirate island.
@Komrade Kayce - Hero of Soviet Kotaku: Oh ok, sounds pretty cool I'll have to check it out. My only computer for the last 4 years has been an iBook so I've missed out on a lot of titles like this.
@Komrade Kayce - Hero of Soviet Kotaku: It may be Mac compatible, but whether its compatible with my POS iBook is another story all together. I need a new computer in the worst way, I can barely surf the net anymore.
"maybe the poor performance of the console versions have already sealed that franchise's fate."
Poor performance? Well, feck. I was hoping for the best with that game, since good console games in that particular genre are rare as hell. I think the last one was actually Diablo on the PS1.
Was hoping it'd get an expansion as nice as the first game's (which included the absolutely awesome demoness class).
Sigh. And Blizzard might just use this as further reason to not make Diablo 3 on consoles.
Mike. What is this Tropico 2 you speak of? I do not recall there ever being such a product. Only Tropico 1 and its expansion exists. There is no Tropico 2. There never has been.
Tropico 3 is just a product of making up for there not being a Tropico in a while and in order to seem like they were still active they named it 3 just for the hell of it.
I have little faith in games that completely abandon their original developer. None of the people that made the original Tropico are involved in this. Why should we expect them to have any idea of what they are doing?
I remember playing the demo of Tropico all the time. It was a pretty juicy demo, really content-rich, so much that i never got to buying the full game. This one, though, I think I might purchase.

And also to pull your finger across your throat with one hand while pointing to someone you don't like with the other.
To, yknow, send them a fruit basket.

Still need a Simcity 5, but hopefully this will tide me over (I've heard Cities XL sucks)

I had it running on OS 9 way way back on my old crapmac. So it'll probably work.

Otherwise, why spout meaningless nonsense unless you're going to back it up? "ZOMG this game is SO terrible! The HUMANITY!"
What's so bad about it. It has a few glitches, but NONE as crippling as Diablo 2 had when it first came out (of course that's all been fixed by now).
Maybe you just don't like games in this genre?
