We don't know who you are, but we're really hoping you aren't a guy and that these mental images crossing you with Cameron Diaz (from back when she was hot) with a future, desperate, heroin-strung version of Scarlett Johansson aren't for naught. Now you tell us that Midway had planned to make 3D versions of all their classic games in the early 2000's, and that this Joust screen is proof of the project's cancellation. Then you listed 17 other games, many confirmed since by Google searches, that existed, were canceled and no one knew the wiser...until you swam to shore. We'll put that list after the jump while we try not to cry again over Deus Ex 3.

A.I. [arena fighting game based off the film] (XBOX, ACES Studio/Microsoft) Alone in the Dark: The Abductions (PS2, Computer Artworks/Atari) Amped 4 (XBOX 360/PS3, Indie Built/2K Sports) Army Men: Air Cavalry (PS2/GC/XBOX, Check Six Studios/3DO) Blood Wake 2 (XBOX, Stormfront Studios/Microsoft) Damage Inc. [Metallica car combat title] (PC/PS2/GC/XBOX, Climax/VU Games)* Dante [firefighting simulation] (XBOX, ACeS Studio/Microsoft) Deus Ex 3 (PS2/XBOX/PC, Ion Storm/Eidos) Eidos announced back in May that their Montreal studio will be making a new Deus Ex 3 different from the one canceled. Also, this title was not Deus Ex: Clan Wars. Dirty Work [sandbox-style game] (platforms unknown, Ubisoft) Fight For Your Right [party game] (platforms unknown, Z-Axis/Activision) Freefall [sci-fi extreme skydiving game] (XBOX, ironWorks/Microsoft) Freelancer 2 (XBOX 360, Digital Anvil/Microsoft) The Getaway Online [eventually became Home] (PS2, Studio London/SCEE) Ghost World [spooky-themed action-platformer] (PS2, Luxoflux/Activision) Jonny Moseley's Mad Trix 2 (PS2/GC, 3DO) Joust (PS2/GC/XBOX, Midway) Lemmings Forever (PS2, PictureHouse/SCEE) Oni 2 (PS2, Angel Studios/Take-Two)

<![CDATA[Xbox 360 Registration Rewards Strike Back]]> Remember earlier this year, when Microsoft sent out a batch of Live freebies in the form of Joust and Frogger? Well, a second batch of free Xbox Live Arcade game codes are going out to Xbox 360 owners who invested in the past year, signed up for Live and filled out a registration form. Our tipsters who recently registered have been getting the updated gratis games in their inboxes, netting themselves a couple of free XBLA titles in Robotron and Joust. Again.

So, if you made with the online registration, log into all your e-mail accounts, check your spam filters, and enjoy some Robotron. Thanks to everyone who sent this in. Again.

<![CDATA[PlayStation Store Update: Joust, Uncharted, MLB The Show]]> Today's update to the PlayStation Store? It's better than nothing! As promised by Sony Online Entertainment, Joust makes an appearance in the Downloadable Games section. Additionally seven new trailers are ready to download. Yeah! Seven! It's a regular media blitz!

Of course, the down side is that five of those are for Sony's own MLB 07: The Show. The other two are for the stunning Uncharted: Drake's Fortune and SOE's port of Championship Sprint, which I can only assume indicates a May 31 release of the arcade racer.

Now, for the Weekly Bitching Update. There are new trailers for Folklore, LittleBigPlanet, Heavenly Sword, Lair and SOCOM Confrontation from Gamers Day that we PLAYSTATION 3 owners would just love to see on the Store, yet they're still not up. They should be. Maybe I'm just bitter about not getting into the Warhawk beta.

<![CDATA[Yup, Joust For PlayStation Store Tomorrow]]> The PlayStation Store will receive at least one downloadable game for tomorrow's update, Sony Online Entertainment's port of the Midway classic Joust. $4.99 is the price you'll pay for nostalgia, lo-fi graphics and online multiplayer. It may not be the most exciting update, but hopefully the PLAYSTATION 3 1.80 firmware will keep owners busy testing the new upscaling abilities of their console.

I've also heard rumors that at least one upcoming PS3 title shown at the recent Sony Gamers Day will get the high definition trailer treatment. Since it's currently unconfirmed and I'd hate to be wrong here, I'll just give you a hint. The game rhymes with Uncharted: Drake's Fortune. Any guesses?

<![CDATA[PlayStation Store Update: Rampage]]> If the recent overload of PLAYSTATION 3 and PSP announcements from Sony's Gamers Day has PlayStation fans floating on air, today's PlayStation Store update will bring them right back down to earth. While a flood of new media has been pouring from SCEA this week, you'll find absolutely none of it on the Store today. Want a hi-def video of Uncharted: Drake's Fortune? You won't get it. Pain? SOCOM? Bowling? No, no, and no.

Instead, you'll find Sony Online Entertainment's hi-def port of Midway's Rampage World Tour (five bucks), and a trailer for the arcade classic Joust. That's it.

Hey, Sony, we'd love to see some of this stuff show up on the Store. Really. Can you make that happen?

<![CDATA[360 Registration Rewards Hit]]> Back in November we told you about a little deal where if you purchased a 360 and registered it with Microsoft you'd receive a coupon good from two free Live games. Well now the codes are just now hitting your email inbox, if the metric ass-ton of posts to our tip mail are anything to go by. I'm not sure what is more amazing here. The sheer amount of folks who immediately thought to email us upon getting the codes, or that none of them seem disappointed to be getting Frogger and Joust.

The email comes with cutesy / disturbing instructions on how to redeem your codes, warning against giving your console a tongue bath. Since several of you have been kind enough to send in the whole damn thing, I'll toss that up after the jump.

360rewardyay.jpg

And there you have it. Enjoy your rewards, people who remembered to register, and for those who didn't...yeah, me too.

Thanks Hector, Rajan, Nate, and I'm going to stop there before I start sounding like Romper Room Magic Mirror lady.

<![CDATA[Mortal Kombat II, Five Others To Hit PS3 Store]]>

Sony and Midway today announced that six Midway downloadable titles are coming to the Playstation Network.

Mortal Kombat II, Guantlet II, Joust, Rampage World Tour, Rampart and Championship Sprint were all hand selected because of their multiplayer capabilities, according to the release.

"We knew these titles would be a perfect fit for the PLAYSTATION Network, and based on Sony Online Entertainment's legacy in the online space as well as their intimate knowledge of the PLAYSTATION Network, it was an obvious decision they would be a top company to work with to bring this project to fruition," said Steve Allison, chief marketing officer, Midway. ... "This is a great opportunity for SOE and Midway to come together to bring these arcade treasures to the next-generation of gaming on the PLAYSTATION 3," said John Needham, Sr. Vice President and Chief Financial Officer, Sony Online Entertainment. "SOE will continue to explore additional opportunities to bring fun and unique digital content to the PLAYSTATION Network."

It's nice to see that things are starting to move over at the Playstation Store, it was getting a little stagnant over there.

Sony Online Entertainment, (SOE) a global leader in the online gaming industry, announced that it has licensed the rights from Midway Home Entertainment Inc., a leading interactive entertainment industry publisher and developer, to develop and release six classic Midway games for the PLAYSTATION 3 computer entertainment system. The games will be available for digital download through the PLAYSTATION Network; with the first game being available in early 2007.

The six downloadable titles are: Mortal Kombat II, Gauntlet II, Joust , Rampage World Tour , Rampart and Championship Sprint . Each title was specifically chosen because of its multiplayer capability, allowing players to experience each of these classics with their friends in the comfort of their own living room, or anywhere else through an internet connection. All of the titles will be offered for PLAYSTATION 3 system download exclusively through the PLAYSTATION Network.

In addition to its work on the development of the PLAYSTATION Network, SOE released a PLAYSTATION 3 launch title, Untold Legends Dark Kingdom , in November of 2006.

<![CDATA[Steve Sanders, Joust Gunslinger]]> joust.jpg

Steve Sanders: father of four, trial attorney, Sunday school teacher, Joe America. And total Joust madman.

The Kansas City Star has a great day-brightening article up about Sanders and his recent appearance trying to blaze his way into the Guinness Book of World Records with a first place Joust score after a twenty year retirement. Originally a world class Donkey Kong player, Steve retired from the world of competitive gaming when his unique talent drove him away from his family and caused him to drop out of school. For the next twenty years, Sanders didn't play games, and wouldn't let his sons play them either. But he was haunted; eventually, even his family, his job and his god couldn't stand in the way of the demons he knew he had to face.

It reads like the plot of an arcade-themed spaghetti western: a retired gamer, haunted by his past, picks up the joystick one last time to stand up for the game he loves. Nice job, Steve! Stick around in the Dark Side this time around, won't you?

<![CDATA[360's Power and Graphics are Nice, But ...]]>

So I've had the Xbox 360 for a couple of weeks now. It's a great machine. I played through Kameo and loved it. A gorgeous game. And I'm playing a lot of Project Gotham Racing 3 — another stunner with excellent Xbox Live integration.

But you know what I've spent the most time playing? Joust, Gauntlet and Smash TV, all of which I downloaded through Live. The wife also is playing an unhealthy amount of Bejeweled 2.

Yet another example that gameplay wins over technology every time.
