"On the US Xbox LIVE Marketplace, the full unedited interview between Stewart and Cramer (f-bombs and all!) is available for download. It's free for LIVE Gold members. Details on how to download in the link below."
The American left, of which Stewart is just a compliant foot soldier, are at the moment trying to discredit anybody with a high profile who has been attacking the Obama administration's economic plan. Since Cramer has been publicly critical of the concept of big government spending as a supposed economic stimulus, somebody had to be dispatched to attack him, and I guess Stewart got the call. I don't see why this went on XBL.
Anyhow, I'm sure Jim Cramer knows a heck of a lot more about finance than does some guy who used to be on a sketch comedy show with Jeanine Garafolo.
1. The Daily show takes shots at what is ridiculous in the news. How can people say they don't watch it and then claim to be aware of current content?
2. The point, which he clearly stated, was that financial reporters tend to play cheer leader rather than journalist. Not asking tough questions or making any critical reasoning just day in and day out reaction.
3. The Cramer 2006 clip was used to illustrate the point that these reporters are fully aware of the gimmicks but choose not to report them because they benefit from it some way.
4. The show is usually funny but occasionally he does serious episodes, that one wasn't funny but it was informative. Colbert can be hilarious and he can also be very annoying (trying to get stuff named after Stephen just seems silly sometimes), the Daily Show is more of a middle ground, IMO.
Cramer made this about Cramer, not Stewart. Cramer was one part of the original joke and they HE went on a NBC tour and played defensive when he didn't need to. That is how this whole thing got out of hand.
(this is a really long post :-S)
Of course Cramer knows more, it was never in dispute, but if he knows more (especially about the backroom stuff) more should be said. He clearly admitted during the interview there are things that should be said but aren't because its 'difficult' to say.
@majatt: The point, which he clearly stated, was that financial reporters tend to play cheer leader rather than journalist. Not asking tough questions or making any critical reasoning just day in and day out reaction.
As opposed to The Daily Show. Which is just day in and day out "OMG LOOK WHAT BUSH SAID TODAY!"
I remember one of the first Daily Shows after Obama was elected, it was literally half an hour of Stewart taking as many shots at as many Bush quotes as he could.
It was like he realized that the entire premise of his whole show for the last 8 years was about to lose it's relevance, and was trying to get it all out of his system before he wouldn't be able to use them anymore.
@rexdart007: When you say "Stewart got the call," do you mean his bookers got the call from Cramer's people scheduling Cramer to appear that Thursday? Because, yes, he probably got that call.
"Stewart had been ragging on Crammer, who talks finance on his CNBC show Mad Money, for spewing nonsense and being totally wrong about the economic meltdown."
Wow! Way to throw your own stupid and wrong opinion in there!
Fact: Stewart only went after him after cramer strayed from the path of "the righteous".
@c0mbobreaker: Actual fact: Stewart only went after him after Cramer went on the talk show circuit blasting Cramer. You realize that, right?
I mean, sure, you can make the "Cramer was criticizing Obama" argument, but then you'd have to ignore clip after clip proving you wrong.
You'd have to ignore that Stewart's initial target was Santilli's rant and CNBC's self-proclaimed financial expertise. You'd have to ignore that it was a one-night segment that got legs only because CNBC, and Cramer in particular, started lashing back. You'd have to ignore the clips of Cramer on the Today Show, on Scarborough. You'd have to ignore the fact that CNBC and the NBC family promoted the feud in the day's leading up to Cramer's interview.
Of course, when all you want to do is make a bogus political point, it's easy to ignore the stuff that'll prove you wrong.
The Daily Show at its worst over the past ten years has still been much better than Kilborn's crap. I'd rather my comedy make fun of people who deserve it (incompetent government officials and incompetent broadcasters) than some old fat redneck woman for being a fat redneck (Kilborn's style). Kilborn was way too childish and petty, but hey, if you think it's funny than that's your problem.
@ca$h: That's what made The Daily Show fun! It was a PARODY of news shows. It took stupid stories and spun them completely serious. Or would take a big story and find a funny approach to cover it.
It's since turned into a half hour of Stewart yelling at still images of various Republicans.
@TRT-X: "It's since turned into a half hour of Stewart yelling at still images of various politicians, most of which happen to be Republicans, because they tend to screw up more for a variety of pretty well-known reasons."
Odd...Comedy Central had the full unedited AND edited versions up for free viewing last week. That's how I watched 'em anyway. I suppose, if you lived under a rock and somehow feel you need to get yourself up to speed with water-cooler rumors, you could go and pay to watch it. But the water cooler has probably been carted away to cut costs by now. The water cooler cronies, and possibly you the consumer, have probably lost your jobs as well. Therefore you'd be at home. Where you would've caught the interview on TV anyway.
It just seems weird to ask for money for it. No one has to pay to watch that old Crossfire episode...
@Paul Eagar: It's not about him being right/wrong on stocks, Jon was calling him out (Cramer whom is one of many) who ignored the fact that the market's rise was unsustainable... banks etc turning the screws tighter and tighter, Jon asks why the "experts" didn't blow the whistle on the ludicrous short term gains train headed for disaster.
And it's people like you that are fucking up this country/world with your ignorance. Cramer and CNBC were clearly in the wrong here, and the evidence was all laid out. Open your eyes.
plus i find jon stewart to be overly pretentious and generally unfunny. after the 1000th bush impression or impressions of conservatives, it gets tiresome at the 10th time. plus they're not even smart jokes, just pandering to the far left ideals with again, impressions and cliches.
now before you label me as some conservative nut, i'm canadian, so every four years we laugh at the spectacle down south at a two party system. especially at the glamourization of policticians. o, and we have a "liberal" and "conservative" party and the two names don't really mean a whole bunch.
@mr-crowley: For someone who hates their government, and politics in general, I never find the bush impressions tiresome. I one day hope your people invade us. I could use the free health care and Putin.
@blizzardjesus: To be fair, the Daily Show for the last four years was pretty much the "Republican Hate Show".
It's the same reason I lost interest in Colbert Report. It started as a pretty fun parody of Bill O'Riley types and then suddenly BECAME that type of show instead of a parody.
@mr-crowley: I didn't like bush but I hated the bush jokes. This clip pretty much sums up my feelings on them and also sums up my feelings on the daily show.
@Lincolnsbeard33: See that's me too. I agreed that Bush messed up at times...but I'm a big fan of good comedy when I hear it, and one thing I can't stand is watching a comedian go to the well over and over again for a cheap laugh.
And that's what The Daily Show turned into. It's like the WWE in a way...play to a slanted audience's views to get a cheap pop.
@TRT-X: I'd incline to agree, but that's the way all presidential jokes have been in the modern TV age. Nixon is evil, Ford is clumsy, Carter's a hick, Reagan's senile, Clinton's horny, and Bush is dumb. I suspect Obama will get known for his stammering, which the right wing talk shows have already seized upon.
@TRT-X: Stewart has always admitted his show is the same as CNBC, Fox News, etc. as far as being a source of real, objective journalism. The different is that the Daily Show has gone after both parties' errors and lies while Fox News is decidedly in the GOP's hat with its brand of yellow journalism. Yeah, the Daily Show has gone after the Republican administration more, but based on the problems and scandals bubbling from it over the past few years, to ignore that would hardly be in the interest of objectivity or news dissemination itself. If you've watched consistently, you'd see that he's targeted Pelosi, Kilpatrick, and other Democrats as he has Craig, Vitter, and so forth. Also, don't forget that Cramer, the subject of this rant is himself a Democrat.
"Meh... this is why I stopped watching The Daily Show a long time ago."
Your use of the word "this" is so vague and nonspecific that I am forced to label your comment inane.
Also, no part of "this" (in my interpretation as a word which encompasses any and all aspects of the Cramer vs. Stewart debacle) has provided me with a reason to stop watching The Daily Show.
@Kobun: I used to think that. But ever since the Obama administration took office, I STILL see a kind of "soft" approach to mocking the administration. Where as barbs toward the other side are much more....well...barbed.
And while I can believe that Stewart doesn't see himself as a news reporter...that doesn't stop the nation from unfortunately viewing him as such. As demonstrated by such comments as this & this.
@TRT-X: Obama was sworn in Jan. 20th. It's been close to two months since he assumed the Presidency and still within the 100 days of his honeymoon period. He's coming into office being handed a terrible financial crisis among other significant issues facing the nation. I really don't see Obama having screwed up in any significant way these past 60 days. When he does, and if the Daily Show doesn't take him to task for it, then I'd agree with what you are saying.
The only people I see in good position don't have a foot hold to stand on, choosing to bash Obama by clinging to school yard "Communist" insults and failing to survey the situation with a more reasonable, intelligent light, which I'd hardly call a fair or worthwhile critique. Typically, the opposite leaning spectrum of the news media (in all its forms, including low level comedy shows and talk radio) are the ones to keep the magnifying glass on the opposition, but I've yet to hear an intelligent counter argument not stuck in some blind "Barack the Magic Negro" or other GOP catchphrase.
My favorite part was the dredged up 2006 footage of Cramer basically explaining how to cheat the system. In all fairness, he's just a guy that was doing exactly what every one else was.
The whole thing kind of got blown out of proportion fast.
@Mystman: UK is no-go. You are redirected to More4 (who show The Daily Show here). Not sure if you can watch episodes online but if you can it must be done through More4.
@Fedule: More4 gives you several days to watch it online on their 'catch up' service. I can't get the exact link right now 'cause I'm at work, but I watched this very thing last night by going to Channel4.com, searching for 'The Daily Show', then clicking the 'View old episodes on Catch Up' link in the right column and selecting "Friday 13th of March" (since we get it a day later than the US). I seem to recall it told me it would be available for another two and a half days, last night (early this morning), so I guess they leave them up there for a week. Also their site only worked for me in IE, and kept insisting on getting fresh licenses every time it started a new segment (or pre-screen advert). But it worked, in the end.
(For what it's worth, I tend to find Jon Stewart "kind of OK, I guess", he's definitely a bit up himself, but this was still worth watching.)
@dead_red_eyes: Me too, and for those with a PS3 or 360 who don't have xbox live gold - open up browser [www.comedycentral.com] a quick google will no doubt find the full thing in one video. But yeah, thats good of them to offer it up free exclusivly on xbox live gold - how much do silver members have to pay?

I should take some footage of ESPN analysts predicting the MLB 2008 season and call them out now that I've seen the results.
Sure, I didn't actually put my butt on the line by making any sort of analysis myself, but that's not important.
