Gamer women ARE. Then you try to factor out of the gamer women, how many are actually good looking, based on the percentage of gamer guys that are good looking.
The number you get is probably pretty small.
Then you figure, this is a playboy model. What are the odds?
Remember. This isn't just a chick playing video games. This is a gamer chick. Shes hardcore. Theres a strong, strong difference between that, and your World of Warcraft playing, Wiimote swingin pokemon collecting brain age tappin ds owning girl crowd.
@SansSanity: No no no. It's not that she plays games, but she plays Oddworld games. Do me a favor, go into a GameStop and ask everyone in there what Abe's Odyssey is. You even get blank stares from the staff.
@Komrade_Kayce: I understand the difference... She might be a hardcore gamer, but how does that you? Still doesn't mean she suddenly appears on the dating list, or that you're getting any from her. So she is just another hot chick, right?
I'll just ask you this.. lets say your hobby is rockclimbing... would you be interested in seeing a list of famous hot chicks who also have rockclimbing as a hobby?
Yes, actually, I would. But rockclimbing is a poor example.
Lets say I was a big fan of extra terrestrial life. I beleived so much it was out there, that I would even go out to the desert to look for it at night.
People laugh at this sort of activity, no?
Then along comes Ms Mainstream Playboy telling the world that she also likes to do this. This excites me that someone in a position of popularity of sorts is willing to 'admit it', that they share a hobby with me.
Its like when you find out theres some Senator or Politician with a level 70 WoW character who grinds for gear every night. Thats pretty nerdy. But if you do the same thing, it looks pretty cool that we're coming to a time when people of importance are feeling comfortable enough to also 'come out of the closet' about having the same habit as you.
And thus, why hot playboy gamer girl is interesting. See?
I dont know how old you are, but Video Games once upon a time were pretty unpopular. Now, they're more popular, but its still hard to get girls into talking about/playing anything thats not mainstream enough to be 'normal'.
@Komrade_Kayce: I'm 27, old enough to have been a teen in the awkward years or 'video game are not cool'. And I agree that had this news come to me in the mid 90's, I would've been excited as well. But that would've probably been because I would've been a hormone crazed teen at the time.
You make an interesting point about coming out of the closet. That was exactly the premise I began with, that gaming is not a closet activity anymore. AAA game titles earn more money than AAA movie titles (GTA IV, TDK first fortnight collections can be compared to see GTA kicked the highest ever grossing movies ass)
But showing the level of gaming you do, by name dropping Oddworld of all things, is pretty unusual. Like RRRansom said, hell, try name dropping Oddworld to even most guys who call themselves 'gamers', and youll get a blank stare, let alone girls.
@Komrade_Kayce: In the last few months, I have seen at least 4 or 5 articles on Kotaku about famous chicks who admit being hardcore games, telling little snippets of things which only hardcore gamers are supposed to understand. I have just started feeling very skeptical about this phenomenon. Is it really that hard to spend a few minutes online, to read up enough to bullshit to a journalist who probably doesn't have much idea about gaming in general himself?
Anyway I do respect your opinion on the matter, and I guess we should agree to disagree. I still don't think it's that big a deal..
@FalconMbuster: Yeah, if she had said something about missing some game on Turbographx, that would´ve made her more hardcore than almost any person here in Kotaku XD...
Every time I see a pretty girl say 'I like video games!' theres this skeptical, scoffing side of me that goes 'uh huh. Guitar Hero. World of Warcraft. Wii. etc' in my head.

Reminds me of my girlfriend. She's big-time into the Thief series, also enjoys Bioshock. Whatta gal.

Why is it this such a big deal.. yeah yet another famous female plays games.. so what?
I think the gaming industry has become mainstream enough for us to not care about women announcing they play games...

Women who play games are not rare.
