'but has kept a lower profile during the development of the sequel'
She has totally been walking around among groups of developers, head bowed, appearing to be praying! Or just sat down, or failing that: hiding in carts of hay.
The studio / publisher decides. the AAA rating just refers to how much value the owners attach, in turn how much money gets spent on making the game and all the advertising to go with it. It doesn't really adhere to cult status but obviously a AAA rated game should and usually has massive fan support. But it's not that a game might do really well, then becomes AAa after release because so many people liked it etc.
I still think it's fascinating how the community is shifting more towards showing interest in the people in charge of these games. I wonder if it's more of a marketing thing for companies, or a type of branding or what?
@ThisCharmingMan: Are you talking about the community being us, the consumers, or the developing community?
I think that the reasoning companies are shifting is because the videogame industry is getting to the point where it's big enough, and mainstream enough, to warrant such things. You see things like that in the movies all the time, with people referring to Ponyo as 'the newest Miyazaki movie' and not just 'that anime movie that came out recently.' Probably not the best example, but it served its purpose.
My guess as to why the consumers are doing it is pretty simple: we're growing up. A lot of people are just coming into the world of videogames, but a lot of us have grown up with games. So, I've been playing Zelda games all my life and I've come to recognize a few names associated with the works. I really enjoy Valve games, so I've come to recognize the names of Gabe Newell and Kelly Bailey, among others.
Finally, the reason most people are interested in this particular person is because this is the internet, and for some reason guys on the internet flip shit whenever they see a member of the opposite sex.
@Sensai: Yes, the community, as in community of gamers. I just find it interesting how many of the larger companies (Epic, Ubisoft, Lionhead, 2K) are kind of marketing these figureheads as the 'rock stars' of the game world. It can be a good thing to follow devs that you personally think do good work, but it's still strange how these people are shoved out upon the public.
Once again great to have another game company in my home country. Definately keen and anticipating the future games that will come out of this company. Good games :)

Nonetheless, it is a very good news for the people in the Toronto's region. A lot of talent around there so we might see some interesting stuff in a few years.

@Oyn: I haven't seen any 'disgusting' comments, just a bunch of teenage boys hootin' and hollerin' about a pretty girl. Unless I'm reading different comments, I haven't seen anything overtly offensive.
@TookiGuy: You can't just delete comments you don't like though. Technically they can, but if someones opinion is 'omg shes hawt' then it's just as valid as some long drawn out serious discussion, as far as opinions go.
@thesircuddles: Teenage boys? FUCK? I'm a 15 year old male who's fucking DISGUSTED by these assholes. 'omg shes hawt', as you put it, is kind of OK, but hundreds of suggestive comments about her is something I want to DEDICATE my life to removing.
They are unneccassary, disgusting, offensive and not funny in any sense of the word.
@SacGamer: All he said was 'and not denying it', the only other post he made in this thread was saying that Jade's game is good. I asked for examples of offensive and disgusting comments, that does not qualify.
@thesircuddles: Fixed - "You want to dedicate your life to making sure that women are seen for what they do?"
I don't mind "She's talented, and beautiful"
But I do mind "Oh, believe me, I'd work for her any day."
@Vamplosion: Find me ONE comment on a male dev's article that is annoyingly suggestive.
@TookiGuy: So you are offended any time a male compliments a female? 'I'd work for her any day' is an entirely harmless statement, along with 'Damn she is fine'. Do you seriously have an issue with these statements? Life must be very frustrating for you then. These do not in any way classify as offensive statements. If you see them as such, your butt must be pretty tight.
I don't even know how you go through life if something so simple is so offensive. You must never go to bars, because men AND women make suggestive comments quite a bit. You're basically telling me you're offended by any sexual innuendo at all. That's a sad, sad life to live.
@thesircuddles: I don't know about you, but when I'm sure that if I was a good-looking female, I'd rather not have "UR HOT", "YOU SEXY" all that shit. I'd rather have people complimenting my damn game. And when I'm with a woman, I'm always respect her, I may compliment her looks if the topic comes to it, but I just don't think we have similar views on this.
@syrantking: I never said people can't think both. And I WILL, I repear, WILL ALWAYS take high ground over disgusting creeps who can't think of anything except how sexually attractive someone is.
I am fucking disgusted by most men, so that does make me misandric, and I have a reason to be so. All men may not be rapists, but about 60% of men I've known would rape, and brag about it.
@thesircuddles: Exactly spot on chap. This is how young men respond to cleavage or any overtly feminine thing at all.
@TookiGuy: Do you know how bigoted it is to suggest deleting comments that you personally feel are inappropriate? This is the internet you need to have a more open thought process to accept even comments that differ from your personal breadth of perspective.
@TookiGuy: Of course you'd rather have those comments, but that doesn't mean that the people that make them are horrible people, or misogynistic, or anything other than people who think she's hot.
You can respect a woman while telling her she has a nice ass. You can respect a woman while telling her you wouldn't mind if she sat on your face.
I make lewd comments all the time to female friends I work with and none of them think ill of it. If you think all women get offended by the simplest of comments, you must not know very many women.
@peterpanpiper2: I will repeat, for the last time, that I don't think saying someone "is hot" is bad, but if that's the ONLY thing you have to say, and if it's been said before, and if you say it in a suggestive way, you don't have to.
@Vamplosion: Stop hanging around with rapists? Did I say I hang around with rapists?
You can call me a "troll", "helmet warrior", "white knight", but as far as I'm concerned, I what is wrong to me, is wrong to me.
You can make a joke, like thesircuddles's MW2 joke, but just spouting annoying sexual comments is... unacceptable to me.
@peterpanpiper2: I'm not suggesting "deleting" them, I'm suggesting "flagging" them.
@TookiGuy: Im sorry but the fact that your saying this and 15 makes it even more clear that your point is invalid. She is attractive, and people are expressing it in a way that is most humorous for the internet.
There has been nothing at all disgusting or offensive, then again that might be because your views are still that of a 15 year old boy.
You shouldn't show disgust towards people when they are voicing such an opinion... There is nothing disgusting or offensive about sexual comments or references, its natural and a part of life.
Suggestive in itself doesn't imply disgusting, just a bit "suggestive" exactly as you put it. While its not necessary, neither is your commenting against it, or any of the comments on this site... and its certainly not offensive. There is no prejudice, women are entitled to the same rights to say such things and it is not relegated to the male sex.
@TookiGuy: Sorry bud, but you can't censor everyone who says something you don't like or rubs you the wrong way. Especially when you're so easy to rub the wrong way...
@TookiGuy: Seriously, any girl who meets you isn't going to immediately see how polite you are, they are going to think how up tight you are about everything.
How can you say that this kind of thing is disgusting when your using one simple example in one specific context.
for example i may say "she's fucking hot" on the internet or to a friend, or something suggestive, or more sexual, but this is nothing to do with what we might say to their face... if i met jade raymond i wouldn't be discussing her body with her, id speak to her about how great her game is, and id be a perfect gentleman, however assuming finding somebody extremely sexually attractive and saying so IS NOT AT ALL offensive or disgusting.... so you know, get a life and get a grip man.
@Kanji08: You seem to have a pretty optimistic view of kids these days. Unfortunately, fear of getting busted is the only thing that keeps some of the guys these days from doing what they want. And, for the record, I'm already out of high school.
Also, what makes you think that just because I'm 15, I've never come across anyone over my age?
@ParadeDC: I'm not exactly lecturing... just spitting out what I think.
@I_Hate_This_Place: I'm not really sure how I should respond to that. I'm not defending women, I'm just saying how disgusted I am by some of the comments. I guess putting out your views is never a good idea.
That picture is pretty badass, though.
I think I've learned a good lesson from this. Thank you. No sarcasm, thank you.
@thesircuddles: Wow, look at all these chaps run to the defense of their fellow knuckledraggers. I was specifically referring to the comment(s) insinuating that Ms. Raymond slept with higher-ups to get promoted. Nobody here (including me) knows how well she does her job, so throwing out those types of comments are just flat out stupid.
@Oyn: And you can defend someone who not only have you never met, but doesn't even need defending. Your white knighting knows no bounds. I just let my wife read this thread, and she's laughing at you idiot kids who obviously do not understand women. Thanks for the entertainment. Live some more, then come back and lecture, okay?
@I_Hate_This_Place: Well then I guess that confirms that your wife is a huge idiot as well. I wasn't so much defending her as calling out people making statements about a person they don't even know anything about. And for the record, I'm 37.
@Oyn: Wait, wait, wait. You're calling everyone who disagrees with you a knuckledragger? Well that's awfully entertaining.
Perhaps you should have been comment specific when you made your point, or replied to a specific comment, or given an example of these offensive comments in the original post. Your original post painted a pretty large brush, maybe it's in your best interest in the future to use a smaller one.
@thesircuddles: So you're agreeing with the implication that Jade Raymond sleeps around? Because those were the 'knuckledraggers' that I was referring to.
@Oyn: Yep. My wife is an idiot because she's laughing at some guys taking random comments about some girl they don't know way too seriously? Yeah, she's the idiot alright. /sarcasm
And use your own advice. Like you said, these people do not know her. So why does it matter? If random people say crap to me, I don't go ballistic and scold them or write them a nasty note. I consider the source, and move on.
@Oyn: You said 'Look at all these chaps running to the defence (i.e people who disagree with you, i.e me and many others) of their fellow (implying we are also) knuckledraggers.
I don't agree with those implications, but your comment did not refer specifically to any implications or comments.
@I_Hate_This_Place: It doesn't matter, I said what I had to say at the beginning of the thread, I just figured I'd see how long I could keep it going. Consider yourself TROLLED! Muahahahahaaaaa.
@I_Hate_This_Place: I know you're responding to Oyn, but I think that the talk is more about people saying "It's OK to post stuff like that", and a couple who don't. And considering we're getting down to throwing INSULTS at each other, I suggest we end this thread. We won't get anywhere.
@Oyn: Oh shit son! You best be TROLLAN!! Are you seriously 37? If so, good job getting everyone riled up. I concede I was trolled hard and put away wet. That is of course, if you really are trolling, or just saying you are to not concede. Either way, good job.
@TookiGuy: Well, unless they are banned, then it is okay to post stuff like that. Is it classy? No. Funny? Maybe. But in the end, Kotaku decides what is allowed, so a call for banning in the comments is retarded. Just e-mail the staff.
Err, uh, as a female, I make as many hollers at men I don't know as much as the guys do with the girls. (used to go to school near a Army base, WOOOT!)
I personally don't think Jade is that hot but I can see why guys might.
Basically, what I want to say is chillax, after the fiasco with AC I don't think Jade NEEDS any defenders. Ubisoft 'pimped' her to sell a subpar game, that's what happened. I think Jade is pretty aware of her 'appeal' to the gamer demo (her face SELLS games now for better or worse...) so it's nice that you want to but really, not necessary.
And you're not helping your cost by labeling everyone that cat calls her 'Misogynistic Assgerbils..'
@TookiGuy: Dude you are the biggest douchebag I have seen on Kotaku so far. I'd much rather take all of these commenters making sexual comments about her than your whining, my shit don't stink posts.
It's all in jest. If you get offended from comments like I wish there was a Ubisoft in my pants, then I feel sorry for you. You must hate comedies as well.
I have the feeling youre nothing more than a 14-year old repressed virgin who thinks he'll get laid because he respects women 100%... Let me know how that goes for you when you are in a club and think it's innappropriate for you to go and start grinding with a girl or make a flirty comment.
There is nothign wrong with making slighty sexual comments regarding Jade because, she is in fact a young and pretty gamer and now shes the head of a locale at a major studio.
I say quit trolling and get a life. If you don't like it, take a hike. What do you think? that 300 gamers shoudl stop posting because you don't like it? Or that you stop posting?
@Madness87: Like I said, if you want to be condescending, I'm not responding.
But I'll say - "I wish there was an Ubisoft in my pants", how is that funny? I don't find it funny at all. I like comedy. About sex, and everything.
That's it, I have my opinions, I have a vision of the way I want the world to be, and I'll do my best to work for that. As far as I'm concerned, this is just a lesson I've learned.
I could easily go on a rage fit with you guys, but I realize there's no point. I can respect you for having your opinions, but I can't respect your opinions in and of themselves.
This will be my last post on this thread, thanks for your patience and all that crap.
@TookiGuy: Even though I whole-heartedly disagree with you, you've listened to all the comments and kept mature about the whole ordeal. Well, after getting off the "ban these people" kick. But nonetheless, good show. At least you didn't back out and claim to be a "troll" because you could no longer refute points being made against your argument.
Also, just watch how women react to those comments in different situations. There is a reason they say women love assholes(or shall I say overly confident men). Even though it sucks, it's the way it seems to work out most of the time. Good luck in your endeavors.
@Madness87 @Tookigyuy I hope you can all just chill out. I'd like to think that we can avoid having every post we do that happens to have an attractive woman featured in it turn into a locker room's worth of comments about how she looks and whatever sexual fantasy comes to mind. Sure, some of it may be in jest; some of it doesn't read that way. It's you, the readers, who have the most influence on the community we have here. Do you want it to feel like a men's locker room in here? A frat house? That's the overall impression that comes off from a thread like this. Yes, this is a video game blog, but I don't don't think it has to come off as this much of a boys' club if you don't want it to be.
Not going to lie to you buddy, but in the context of an internet forum, you sound like a tool. You can't respect a woman on a forum, while also making some juvenile comment about sitting on your face.
You have to make the comments subtle, and make them funny. The large majority of comments here are by horny 15 year olds who don't know how to respect a woman.
If you make lewd comments like "Sit on my Face" to people at work, you're an accident waiting to happen. I've seen people fired before, I've seen them disgraced. Sexual harassment isn't a joke, it's real. You must think you're a hotshot if you speak to co-workers that way.
I'd say that you're most likely the one who doesn't know many women. You have to know someone before you can assume that they'll laugh off sexual innuendo.
I don't want to censor people, but this says a lot about the geek aspect of gaming culture. Most of these guys wouldn't know what to do with a woman if she sat on their face.
@WontonTiger: Depend on the woman and how well you know her, you can in fact be respecting and complimenting a woman by saying you want her to sit on your face. I'm sorry if you've never met any women who don't have 8 foot poles up their asses, but you should try to meet some at some point in your life.
Comments can be subtle and/or funny, but if they aren't it doesn't mean they're automatically disrespectful. A bad joke or lewd comment might have just been a failure as a joke, it isn't automatically disrespectful. A lot of comments on here are made by 15 year old boys, but most of them are all the same, saying that she's hot. The only ones I would call disrespectful are in regards to her sleeping her way to the top, and even then most of them are meant to be jokes. Very few comments are actually implying she did such a thing. They may have not been funny, but their intent isn't to harm.
I have made plenty of comments to women at work, because thankfully I work with cool women who are my friends. It's not like I would smack a girls ass that I didn't know as I pass her in the hallway. I'm not sure why you would assume such a thing, that's just stupid. A hotshot? No. I just work with women who aren't uptight princesses about everything. I can comment or insinuate just about anything and it's no big deal.
I think it's funny that you think I don't know any women based on a few comments online. I know plenty of women, and like I said, they are cool girls. In fact I'm surrounded by girls at work (for some reason there's only one other guy in my area) and I get along really well with all of them. I've also been with my girlfriend for over 8 years, so I like to think I know just a bit about women.
I agree not knowing what to do with a woman if she sat on your face is quite pathetic. Sadly it's true for a lot of people here.
It doesn't say anything about geek culture, hell it doesn't even say anything about 15 year old boys either. They're full of testosterone and lack a lot of basic fundamentals in life. Even still, I only saw one or two actually disrespectful comments out of hundreds, so really they did pretty well.

Also, just watch how women react to those comments in different situations. There is a reason they say women love assholes(or shall I say overly confident men). Even though it sucks, it's the way it seems to work out most of the time. Good luck in your endeavors.

It's quite pathetic.
