I didn't even know that Jace was behind V. This makes me want to watch it more. The first episode was certainly promising and I can see it being a great show. Hopefully however, the show doesn't get thrown on the cutting room floor in the near future.
On his quote, I think that it's great that he's trying to change peoples perception of those involved in the game industry but I'd much rather see the game industry having the clout to poach big name directors and producers (sure, we have Spielberg but not really) rather than have the film and tv industries poach our greatest talents.
Either way, I wish Jace the best of luck and I'll be tuning into V every week...unless it falls on it's arse. #v
@-MasterDex-: Hopefully it doesn't go the route of Heroes, but let's be honest here, it's a remake, which means they pretty much have their whole path already outlined for them. #v
@-MasterDex-: You know what pissed me off about V?
Last week I finally got around to watching Firefly for the first time.
and :spoliers: just finished with Serenity on Tuesday night, then set V to download n watched it in the morning.
I go from watching Wash get harpooned by Reavers, to the morning later seeing Juliet stab him.
:'( #v
@-MasterDex-: I'd actually seen Serenity ages ago.
but watching it after seeing Firefly you realise there's at least two seasons between it and Serenity that's missing.
And you just know it will never get filled in. #v
Wow, been forever since I've played EQ. Was the game that got me hooked into the whole MMO mess, and has had me jumping from one MMO to another ever since. I try to get away from time to time, but I eventually find myself going back to one MMO or another. Right now my vice is Warhammer Online, and I'm finding I like the PvP there a lot better than other MMO's (barring DAOC, which I still believe to have the best PvP ever until ToA) though the extreme lag when there's 100+ people around you defending/attacking a keep can become bothersome.
Seeing this EQ vid makes me want to go back and see how my old Half Elf Warrior, Wood Elf Druid, and Iksar Shaman are doing. Leveled them up to 70 or so IIRC on the Erollosi Marr server, and kinda missing them after seeing that. Especially with all the graphical advancements it apparently has, and the fact my guild is still active there.
@Shadowmist: Your reminiscences push me further down the slippery slope than the video itself. I was very young when I played, and on a dial-up connection at that, so my resume isn't nearly so illustrious--ha! let them laugh!--as yours. But I think the main thing that calls me back to EQ is just that--the fact that I didn't make it to endgame, and my inexperience kept me from reaching a point where I had "figured stuff out." There's this golden window in playing a game, for me, where you've bought it and you've gotten into it but you haven't quite solidified the incontrovertible rules in your head. That some areas you fly over simply can't and won't be reached; that the lore of one tantalizing sites of ruins never will be explained; that this or that npc (sure, why not) will never sleep with you--you don't know any of that yet. And I left EQ when I was still in that golden zone. And tales like yours, coming just as WotLK's endgame starts to lose my attention, does not help me fight the urge to run back and slam that window shut on on my nostalgia, sinking a fair amount of time into it in the process...
Ah well. If you go back, crank up the music in the Steamfont Mountains for me. I still remember all the themes, and that one seemed a better exploratory/adventurous theme than any much-lauded symphonic concoction by theatrical score composers.
After losing TWO jobs to the addiction of it, I realized that I was not a personality type that could play such things as MMOs, and so I've never touched another one.
Perhaps, one day, when I'm independently wealthy, I'll be able to play another.
@MrBionic: Don't play WoW by going to www.worldofwarcraft.com and clicking on their 10-day free-to-play trial that has addicted millions before you and millions more to come.
@Go Go Gadget: Thugmunk: Why do I get the feeling that you pop into random AA meetings and yell, "Hey! Whatever you do, DON'T go across the street to The Liquor Barn where they're giving out free samples of the newest micro-brew!"?

It is always about people from tv and movies coming into gaming.
It always gets alot of hype as well.
Some of the most creative stuff is in video games. I'm not talking game mechanics, but storylines and the worlds and characters that are created.
I'm all for this. I would love to see what can be done. #v

But... what if you are Cliffy B?
Then it would be entirely appropriate to associate your product with 'Epic'.

He's the exception that proves the rule.
