I'm not a big fan of the IRS or anything, but it amuses me that most people hate the IRS simply because of old jokes and TV shows/movies.

Do you have a better idea to support the government and all the services it provides for us, including the safety that allows us to live our daily lives? Perhaps the government should just print extra money, right? lol.

Or maybe, there should be an honor system. We all put the taxes we owe into a box anonymously, because we know that people would always follow that system.

@Giggers: Flat tax FTW... People shouldn't be taxed exorbitant amounts for money that's in their family to STAY in their family. Yet, that's exactly what happens.

Not that this matters to me personally. I don't stand to inherit much of anything except some of the life insurance that will be split among 3 children (after funerals are paid off) which may help me a bit with my student loans, but won't exactly make me rich.

@bobtheduck: flat tax? yeah, it'll work out really well when people already below the poverty line have to pay a flat percentage of their income to the government. There's a reason it's scaled now- if you barely make enough to keep a roof over your head you don't have an extra ten percent or whatever to give to the IRS. There was a point in my life when I made so little I owed no tax, and if I had, it would have come down to "pay rent or pay taxes" since I had no disposable income at all. That's normal for a lot of people in this country.

@Giggers: Because sales tax disproportionately affects people with smaller paychecks, since more of their pay is spent purchasing?

Income and inheritance taxes collect from large pools of money which would otherwise not be in circulation. And considering how much money you have to have to even qualify for the inheritance tax, I don't really have any sympathy for anyone affected by it - boo hoo, Meghan McCain might have to get a job (not really. She'll just have survive on half of more money than your entire extended family will ever see in all their lives, combined, times a million.)

    .
Now if the IRS started putting ads on those free video sites, they may have something.

The people complaining about the Taxes are being idiots. The Government needs money (And not just to pay Congress's paychecks, just how do you supose all the stuff people want the Government to do gets paid for), and the Internet isn't special. There's no difference from me selling a hot dog on the street and me selling doodles on the internet. It's income, it gets taxed.
