There is only one way this game will be good. If Sega fire the God-awful Secret Level studios, the guys who made the first game and a whole slew of bad games to match.
AGH! Why the hell does there always have to be a super hero movie first and only after THAT the game developers take on the mission of making a game of that character!?
Unfortunately I am absolutely sure that this is going to suck just as much as all the other movie tie-in video games! Regardless of what SEGA says they're trying to do.
Why can't somebody - FOR ONCE - just make a game about Iron Man or Wolverine without a damn movie to back it up!?
I believe the main reason why games like this turn out to be just awful garbage is because A) the studio behind the movie is involved in the project B) because these games usually have to be released on the opening night of the movie!
Does Iron Man NOT deserve a proper original video game? Does Wolverine NOT deserve a proper original video game? Of course they do! But for some reason nobody ever makes games like that unless there's a big budget movie coming out at the same time!
It's an awful shame.
@Outi: I definitely agree that our favorite superheroes deserve proper, original video game adaptations. Unfortunately, I think that the underwhelming performance of the non-movie-supported Ghostbusters game is only going to reinforce game company execs' perception that licensed property is only worth the time and development costs if its sales and advertising can be supplemented through cross-promotion with a big-budget film.
Of course, Ultimate Alliance did pretty well w/o a direct movie tie in, but the suits can be pretty selective with what they view as examples of a working/non-working business model...
@Boom-Chicka-Ah: That would be great for this kind of game and could incorporate his office pretty well. Return there to pick up missions and get tips on where any action is going down. Then pick a suit and fly off.
Fraction is a very good writer. I'm not too fond of his X-men work (though Utopia is pretty good so far), but I don't hold that against him. Very few people can write X-men well. Fraction's other work is excellent. Now hopefully the game will be as good as the writer. Come on Sega, it can not possibly be hard to make a good and fun Iron Man game. And please give the PC a good version this time.
@Derangel: I thought the first game did well enough as far as Iron Man's looks and abilities, but the game was just dull. It shouldn't take too much to fix that, and if the gripes about the first game can be faulted to time and/or budget restraits due to a licensed game, perhaps the developer can focus on enhancing the experience now that the basic engine is in place.
Yeah yeah yeah, how about something GOOD from Sega, Jet Set Radio perhaps? (and NOT on the Wii), Shenmue (if only), or for the love of God Phantasy Star Online (NOT Universe, it is teh suck).
I don't even know if the first Iron Man game was any good, I'm going to guess not as the trend seems to be with most video game movies. Nothing that they're premiering looks very interesting really. I don't know what happened to the company, it's like they just kind of gave up on everything.
@tommyscomics: Yeah I know, a lot of the best games seem to be going onto the wii where they don't belong, the saddest loss was Fatal Frame. Jet Set Radio could work with those stupid waggle controls, but it just wouldn't be the same experience as the previous two games.
@Hardcore: Who knows, it does seem that movie games are getting somewhat better, the Wolverine game was a lot of fun, and from what I've heard the movie was god awful. It's nice to see effort put into a movie game every once in a while.
@develin: I love the PSO series personally, I've put thousands of hours into the original Dreamcast version, it was just a formula that Sega got absolutely right. Sonic Team used to do great work, but I guess the celebrations got too big and they all took one too big a line of coke out of the hookers buttcrack and now theyre all mentally stupid. I'd like to see a return of Smilebit but..god knows what's happened to them.
@ngamesnick: I'm not saying that. I'm saying games like JSR and Fatal Frame won't sell like they would on the 360 or the PS3. The average Wii owner is either very young or elderly. Most Wii owners will just skip over these titles for some other shovelware that's on the console. That gimmicky control scheme won't work with certain games, I really don't picture it working very well with Fatal Frame, but I could be wrong. I'm not hating on the Wii, I owned one at one point, but sold it because the lack of good titles and because looking for good titles was too frustrating because of all the crap I had to sift through to find something worth playing.
@DLNO-001: thanks, I didn't really mean to come off like that. There are good games on the Wii, but the sad truth is that most of them are terrible, and some games that could have been good, or even great, were ruined by shotty controls or other stupid gimmicks. I've been trying to give everything the benefit of the doubt, but it just seems like the end is near for not just the Wii, but all consoles. Easy profit seems to have taken a higher priority to a making a game of great quality. Granted, this isn't true for all developers and publishers, but it does make sense, why put millions of dollars and thousands of hours into making a great game that only someone who has been playing games for years will enjoy and really appreciate when you can invest a fraction of the money and time into an undeveloped easy money game. This seems most prevalent with the wii, and Nintendo is guilty of it, though not to the same extent of the no name developers that seem to release a new game every week.
@puresewas1de: I think it's safe to assume the development teams for both of those games are on different sides of the planet, and have zero influence on each other.

The first games was severely limited by the lack of time, now they could build on what they already have. E.g. the look of the game wasn't bad.
If they fail on this one as well, I will add the studio to my "must avoid" list though.
Go Sega!
