Would-be rejected letters to now obsolete people in the game industry Vol. 1:
Dr Langdell,
Please hang yourself by the edge of a cliff. You've done more than enough edgewise to damage your already edged reputation. Your wisdom is no longer needed, since you company were edged out years ago.

Today, I was excited at hearing of your resignation from the IGDA board. What you've done with your trademark trolling of the word 'Edge' is hardly a way for any person in this world to make personal gains, and I'm glad that it has had a negative effect on your personal and professional lives.
My hopes are that this will result in some personal growth on your behalf, and maybe even in future success in other endeavors; ones that don't involve a court of law, but do involve legitimate business, and a product that you or your business create.
The contents of your letter of resignation leave little hope for that, though... as you continue to pass the buck. Shame on you.
Best wishes, and don't spend too much on those trademark suits... you may one day find the pot o' gold is no longer under your rainbow.
@GusTavToo: I'm quite well aware of the existance of said place, but thanks for trying to clear it up. I'm commenting on how hilariously nondescript the two universities are. Like say, "I won a fabulous vacation to Resort Beach on the sunny shore of Ocean Lake."
If anybody read the Thread in the IGDA forums, boy... did they find a whole lot of dirt about Tim Langdell.
Not only were his "700 previously published games" turn out to be a small portion of that, but the newer games, such as Mythora, and Racers turned out to be games by central European developers that had nothing to do with him, the owner of the "Teenage Wasteland" IP/TV project said he hadn't licensed anything to him, and thought he was a con-artist, and the guy that made the Edge comic book said he had nothing to do with him, either.
There's also a lot of interesting stuff that appears to show Langdell had allegedly modified Magazine covers and Packaging to prove his ownership of the "Edge" trademark in court cases.
There's even some doubt that he even owns the rights to the one game he DID publish in the 80's, Bobby Bearing.
To top it all... His two business addresses? Postal boxes.
Since this whole fiasco, Edge Magazine are "divorcing" their part of the trademark with his, too.
Another interesting fact... You know that Langdell vs Namco trademark case for the "Soul Edge" name? Yeah... He actually LOST that case. In fact, the hearing officer called Langdell on his numerous delaying tactics all the way through it.
A lot of the evidence "against" him was mysteriously "moderated" in the IGDA link but have a read through the others, it's intriguing stuff..
Let me get this straight: He is resigning because he knows 100% he won't be removed from his position by the members of the board in the vote, and people will be upset and drag the IGDA through the mud? I can't even begin to explain all of the wrongs in his logic.
This is merely Langdell pulling a thinly-veiled mask over his arrogance, and a (poor) attempt to make himself a martyr in this situation.
What really happened here is that Langdell resigned before the members could kick him out.
"Dr." Langdell, should learn to contribute to our industry before he calls himself a part of it. All he's been thus far is a parasite who has attempted to suck the life and money out of many a company using a loophole. He is a horrible representation of both our industry and the IGDA organization.
@The Good Space Doctor: Meh, let him say whatever will help him sleep at night. He's right when he says that his being there would likely give the IGDA a bad image, so he's ducking out now and trying to pass the fault to the public eye (the people commenting about him, etc) and make us seem like monsters when he says...
"who in their fanaticism will cause substantial negative press for the IGDA over the next month and place intolerable demands on the board and IGDA staff."
Doesn't matter, everybody knows what would've really gone down had the vote gone through. Just because you call someone a minority doesn't make it so. This isn't a matter of "Oh, what horse game can we market to the casual audience next"; this is an industry affair, and those familiar with the industry are likely familiar with Tim's sense of... y'know, I just don't wanna put it nicely- those familiar with the industry think he's a dick.
EDIT: Next time I'll actually read what I copy paste before just throwing in the first thing that appears in quotation marks. Fixed it with the quote I actually wanted.
Don't you love the good old "I wouldn't have been fired, but I'm resigning out of altruism" tactic? It's much easier to keep blaming a "vocal minority" when you don't have a majority vote against you. Anything to save face, heh?
(I'm so proud of myself: I promised I wouldn't mention his face's uncanny resemblance with a penis and I-- DAMNIT!)
Anyway, bottom line is: WOOO-HOOOOOOO!!!!
It's just a shame that this won't stop him from continuing his despicable (albeit technically legal) practices.
If anything, it'll make him so angry that he'll be scouring business directories for someone to sue. DC Comics, you're next!
tim langdell and his whale of a diatribe...who the hell needs to release an anti-defamatory letter of resignation to pre-empt any theoretical naysayers in the occurence of a non-existent vote that in some inviolable manner favors the non-resignation of tim langdell?
well, tim langdell of course...living on the edge.
