@BallPtPenTheif: If someone is being shot through a cinderblock wall by a .22, that is magical. If someone is being shot through a gyprock wall with a .50BMG, that's physics.
Besides that, game isn't ready yet. Missing clipping planes and all. We'll see.
And I never said anything about bodies flying through walls (though I'm sure anyone could headbutt their way through a sheet of gyprock with next to no effort).
@badass.geek: Is that a review on Gamespot or a review that has been influenced by large piles of money given to Gamestop to advert the game in a none-to-subtle form that makes the phrase "Conflict of Interest" seem tame and will ultimately cost one or more journalists their jobs?
@jporter313: No, I don't believe everything I read in online comics. Otherwise I'd probably believe the webcomic that I color for. But what I do believe is that one of my favorite reviewers from Gamestop got the BOOT(tm)! after he reviewed the last Kane & Lynch game and pretty much crucified it at the same time the website was adverting the game pretty damn heavy.
And then there were the many, MANY other reviewers and journalists who left Gamespot because of the situation.
So no, I don't believe everything in comics, I believe what I've seen before.
@badass.geek: Yeah, the last Kane & Lynch game had fallout going all over the place. It left a REALLY bad taint upon the reviewing industry and it still surprises me that all the bad press that happened from the original situation didn't kill this IP faster than a shotgun to a zombie's head.
Agreed Salen, Jeff getting fired and the exodus that followed REALLY sucked, but it's a big leap to go from someone getting fired for reasons that you have really no insight on other than internet rumors and loose correlation, to the idea that a game journalism site is giving better reviews to companies that give them more advertising dollars.
There is a large team of people working at GameSpot who have a lot of journalistic credibility and take their integrity very seriously, and it's incredibly frustrating to hear people who have no connection to the situation repeatedly slander them over something that they don't know anything about.
I hope they tigthen up the aiming and cover systems for the sequal. I tried so hard to like the first game and there were indeed many things I did like about it but those two problems kept me from really enjoying the experience to it's fullest.
The first game was an unpolished diamond. For the second game, I'd settle for some sparkling cubic zirconia.
@Taggart6: I don't always drink beer, but when I do...: Review controversies will no longer be news-venue-exclusive. All blogs and news sites will have equal chance for their advertising revenue to conflict with their review scores.
We like to call it "Controversy Co-op Mode." Simply log in to your favorite video game news site and see the chaos ensue with all your favorite writers and corporate middlemen at each other's throats. Cooperation at its finest!
@FP_slomo788: Ok slomo, I'll bite. The "user-generated era" is actually evidence of the creaky beginning, the kicks in the womb, the antique preamble of an entirely new epoch in which all conscious beings become inextricably, profoundly connected and share all subsequent thought instantaneously.
@Mega-Driven: I think both of you missed the SNL reference...or maybe I misconstrued it as such. Either way, the human consciousness is neither conscious nor human...discuss!
@P45K4L: One could argue that the game was actually the catalyst to providing him with some forced motivation to tap a little deeper into his overall potential, hence Giant Bomb.
Sometimes you don't need a push...you need a pink slip. ;)
I felt the first was a fun afternoon's worth of entertainment. Nothing great, definitely not as shitty as some claimed, but obviously not something to come back to or truly remember.
The characters carried it though. The interaction between Kane and Lynch was fascinating and it seemed the story may have been going somewhere, but it completely sputtered out and become incredibly boring. Especially the moment you hit Cuba, the game just lost all sense of itself.
The early set pieces like the doughnut shop shootout, the night club, bank heist, prison break-in (still a novel idea) and business building level were all fairly enjoyable and showed promise. However the game did have some pretty big flaws that prevented it from being anything other than mediocre.
Hopefully IO can step it up like they have in the past and deliver on what they promised. Particularly in light of new Eidos ownership and leadership. That company's made some decent strides since the last game.

Hello, it's Keir from Eido... I mean Square Enix Europe here. Kane & Lynch 2 will be released on the Eidos label, so it'll be front of box and you'll have an Eidos splash screen. (It'll be the same for all the IP you'd traditionally associate with Eidos).

That alone killed my excitement for the previous game.

But handguns does not make bodies fly through any walls.. not even the largest guns..

@Ducce: The .50BMG is not a handgun round.

I said being shot through the wall. See diagram
