Tropic Thunder Movie Pimps Wii, Gaming

I just finished watching Tropic Thunder, not a laugh out loud movie but packed full of giggles. Robert Downey Jr. totally steals the show. He's quickly becoming my favorite actor. But on to my point. I couldn't help but notice two fairly large nods to gaming and one relatively sly one in the movie. More »

    Invader Takes on Brooklyn

Anyone who reads this site regularly probably knows I have a weakness for Space Invaders. There's just something very iconic, for me, about the blocky bad guys. I've been following the Invader movement for almost a decade now (heck, I even had the first pair of shoes Invader made) , and while we don't post ever single pic of a tile Invader that people send to us, I thought this one, located on North 11th and Wythe in Brooklyn, looked pretty cool. I particularly like how it stands out so vibrantly against the dull and dirty reality that surrounds it. More »

    Bonjour Invader!

Oooooh, this one looks vintage! This invader comes from Ulix, a Kotaku commenter, who saw this little gem on vacation in Paris near the Church "Sacre Coeur". Since Invader, the artist, started putting these tiles up in Paris in 1998, this could be one of the originals as time has obviously seen the wear and tear of time (and possibly vandalism). This inspires me to do some tiling in our new apartment or at least getting a few Space Invader pillows for the living room. More »

    Swiss Invader

Maybe I'm not totally hormonal. One reader actually got the same warm and fuzzy feeling encountering a little invader of his own. More »

    Invader - Amsterdam

There have been several posts about Invader on Kotaku before, so everyone is probably familiar with French Graffiti artist, Invader. As an artist, he gets a lot of praise for having the ability to paste these tiles up all over the world, which is an amazing feat of course, but perhaps he doesn't get enough credit for what it does for his audience. I just moved to Amsterdam two weeks ago and it was incredibly comforting to see something familiar that reminded me I was still part of the world (barf bag, anybody?). And, being only a whopping 54" in height, I was really surprised that it was pasted up in a place where I could actually touch it and find out just how cemented down it really was (very cemented). Just wanted to share with everyone, I'm on a mission to find the other 25. Make fun of my sappiness at your leisure.

    Super Mushrooms Popping Up *Everywhere*

Hey guys, maybe this whole mushroom tagging thing is getting a little played out. Today alone we got tipped off about two separate power up mushrooms adorning very public areas. Are there that many rabid Super Mario Bros. fans out there, looking to make their mark on the world? Is Nintendo now in the business of hiring street artists worldwide to shill copies of New Super Mario Bros.? More »

    Invader Hits Time Square

We just love French Gorilla artist Invader, the guy who's taken the iconic aliens from Space Invaders and made them a trendy form of graffiti. His latest daring escapade appears to involve slapping one of his trademark Invader tile mosaics on a wall in Times Square. More importantly, he managed to do this under the constant survellience of more than 300 cameras and the every present NYPD. More »
