Smash Brothers over Soul Calibur IV? I guess "flailing madly and praying" has a lot of fans in the industry. I tried that game in Best Buy and wanted to throw the wiimote.

Glad to see LBP getting some props finally though.

@Hotaru99: you must be lousy at smash bros., because I don't pray when I play. everyone else prays while playing against me because I never lose. the reason smash bros. wins is that it is actually an improvement upon the previous iterations, unlike SCIV, which I sadly bought and never play.

LBP is an awesome game. I own it and play it frequently, but i've wondered if perhaps part of the reason it is so adored by critics (and those who own it) is BECAUSE of the way it is largely ignored by the public.

    Woot go Sackboy go!

But honestly...did he deserve Character performance of the year?...he is kinda a blank slate, I really think Snake should have gotten that.

Sorry Gears 2, I love ya, but that over the top "bro-mance" didn't deserve a performance award.

I'm happy they didn't go the easy GTA-route like most of the gaming press did and actually picked some more bold choices!

I love MGS4 but PoP takes the cake, and pie, and we're missing several cupcakes. this one has a bite on it. Where's the cat?

    Im sorry.

    "Outstanding Character Performance"

now this is getting pretty rediculous giving it to sackboy, who's only function is to look happy, occassionaly frowning, swing arms in circular motion, and walk around nude.

not to mention the other nominees on that list probably shouldn't be nominated at all - two of them are predictable gruff manly men, an old man with perpetual halitosis, and tits. Niko Bellic should have at least been nominated.

@mr-crowley: theres not much else one needs to do to be a great character. talking could make a character sound like an asshole, that is what sackboy is not.

For the most part those aren't too bad. LBP certainly deserves a big share of the awards. It did have two problems, though:

    1. None of them has ever played a Strategy Game before to vote Red Alert 3 over EndWar, Sins of a Solar Empire OR Civ Revolution. Obviously Red Alert 3 just had the better marketing. I'm not even a fan of EndWar, but it was still a lot more innovative than Red Alert.

    2. Dead Space should not have won "Action Game of the Year" over the likes of GTA IV or Far Cry 2. Again, I liked Dead Space and felt "meh" at GTA and Far Cry, but they were still a lot more action-oriented and a lot less horror-oriented than Dead Space.

Looks like EA's marketing schemes work again.

Good for LBP. This is easily the best game(?) on the PS3 and there's nothing that can compete with it on any platform. Except Garry's Mod on PC, which demands a whole different level of expertise (and isn't nearly as cute).

@oldtaku: eh, there are better games for the ps3. while it is a great game, it is the best game on the ps3. that's just like saying the ps3 has no games.

@Archaotic: Exactamundo! If it were up to me, I'd give MGS4 every award: Graphics, Multiplayers, Sound, Story, Gameplay, and overall Game of the Year.

Seems like they picked the list really well IMO... except my sports game of the year would have been FIFA 09, since it is such a huge upgrade this year. Having said that I havent played NHL 09, so they might have been right about it too

As many awards as LittleBigPlanet gets, you'd think more people would have bought the damn game.

If we're not getting industry figures to host it, you know who should? Morgan Freeman. If you can get the man to do a spoken word version of Barenaked Ladies' "One Week" you could probably get him to do this. I mean, he isn't particularly picky about what he works on, and that's a great thing.
