I still struggle to define the best soccer anime.. you have your Tsubasas and your Wild Strikers but I still think I enjoyed Aoki Densetsu Shoot and Captain Tsubasa J the most. I've had no real yearning to follow this series but a Kotaku mention I suppose is enough to bring it back into my stream of consciousness.
Thank God they don't peddle this kind of garbage in the west. Although saying that, it will probably be syndicated. Just imagine Prince of Tennis or Eyeshield 21 pitched at a slightly younger audience that enjoys Beyblade; then add an additional level of "secret technique" ridiculousness and I'm pretty sure I've nailed what this anime is.
@Earthjade: Sport's animes are awesome... especially when they take pop-shots at each other :D
I forget which anime it was but one character got mad at another and hit a tennis ball at them and other character exclaimed that tennis was never meant to hurt people with which sorta called out Prince of Tennis and Aim for the Ace anime series where that's basically all that ever happens. That said, I loved those two series to a fault :) (...I know that was a horrible pun ;_;)
@Ninja Tree: You have never seen a sports anime? There are like 1000 of them... And like 10,000 sports manga. And cooking manga / anime, probably not as many as sports, but there's a number of those, too. Believe it or not, tastes do vary in Japan...
@Ninja Tree: the same way that american football, baseball, tennis, probably basketball, and GO(japanese chess) got their own animes. as long as people know that the sport exists, it's completely fair game. only difference is that everybody has special powers or techniques. not super saiyan esque powers, just that they are better than all of the competition. int he american football anime and tennis anime, they always have some sort of power shot that will make the ball blur, probably rip to shreds, or light on fire.
@kitsuneconundrum: I still love Dragon Ball Z based on the fact it's the first real anime that I got behind and I can still enjoy it today but gawd they new how to milk a scene. The series could have been done in 52 episodes.... fillers and all!! There was no reason to stretch it out like they did. *faints*
