But if Guybrush comes back as the undead at any point during the game I WILL BRING FORTH MY FIERY VENGEANCE.
Or be annoyed. Either way, I don't want to see Guybrush in a grave. Er... again.

However, that bit at the end concerning the unfinished Wii chapter of Strong Bad highlights a serious downside for the format. It seems that non-PC releases of certain episodic series get shafted before completion, and even some PC-included titles seem to lose funding/interest before their narrative arc is complete.
Obviously, I'm speaking mainly of Penny Arcade Adventures. They were niche as hell, but I actually enjoyed them. I love any game that lets me bring the same character (status included) through different stories. You'd think that breaking one game into smaller chapters would ensure that all the parts come out, but it seems to work like everything else; if the earlier titles succeed, the sequels will be allowed to exist. It's unfortunate, since I think the PA saga is only halfway done, and Strong Bad was one of the stronger titles for WiiWare.

If that sounds too weird...add zombies.
12/01/09
Zombies would be a great addition though.
12/01/09
Adding zombies is always a surefire way to spruce up a game. :)

Really? Never palyed it.
There were some source mods that had FPsoccer games...didn't really like them..but they were neat.
Just would like to see a sports game with the same teamplay as a good FPS.
One can dream!

Too bad from what I hear they pretty much screwed up blood bowl and it sucks.

It's been done. It was one of the ESPN Football games.
Ah, here it is. Strangely Wikipedia doesn't have an article pertaining it. If I cared about stuff I would create it - but alas...

I also found a video! What luck!

Doesn't mean it won't be a great game, but you are right that not having the license will hurt the sales.
12/01/09
All in all, I think if you were able to make a good solid football game foremost, the NFL license is periphery.

This is exactly what we need----if you see it in motion, it's AMAZING.
Maybe it will be what EA needs to make a better Madden game. But if you like football, keep an eye on Backbreaker FOR SURE (and look up some video online).

surrealism is often more fun than realism.

Imagine, you play from the third person perspective on Sundays, but the rest of the week takes you out to the clubs, to your urine test, to the barely concealed homoerotic interplay in the dialogue, rolling with your entourage, dealing with neglected spouses ect. Imagine all of the hilarious fun you could be up to. Imagine the dialogue tree options: "They ARE who we THOUGHT THEY WERE"
That would be sweet....

The problem I have with Madden (downloaded the demo and tried, oh I tried hard, to like it) is that it's too much like real football.
Now I know that's the whole point and I imagine Madden does a fine job of making a video game very much like the real thing. I don't know much about the sport, but from what little I've seen on TV (SuperBowl's mostly) and the less than an hour I've spent with Madden it seems they have things about the same. You sit around, a lot, you pick a play, and there's less than thirty seconds of anything happening.
That doesn't make for a very enjoyable game, for me anyways. I'd like to pick up FIFA 10 since I hear this isn't the case. You get out there and you go at it.
If Backbreaker can some how manage to do that, get rid of the whole 'plays' idea and just make a fun game, maybe I'll check it out.

Bunch of burley street thugs playing kick-ass football on concrete. Walljumps, clotheslines, boosts, gamebreakers and somersaults.
It's emphasis is on violence and the overall sense of "oh no he didn't"
And just to burst the bubble, no sports game is ever, and i mean ever, going to top NBA Jam on Snes.

There was a hockey game I really liked on the N64, but I don't remember the name of it, just that I would senselessly knock the hell out of everyone and not try to get goals at all. NFL Blitz was alright for that too, but I didn't really catch on to that one as much.

It was worth every penny, because my wife is not really a gamer (actually she's a bestselling YA author, but that's another story). It was really fun to get to share my hobby with her in this way.
I like Final Fantasy, but I'm just not very excited for this one. Crystal Chronicles was great despite its shortcomings, and we were really hoping for a true sequel. Doesn't look like we're getting one, though.
11/19/09
I've played about 4 hours of the JP version before I decided to put it down because it bored me to no end.
The Boss Battles are nice, but that's about it. The pick-up-and-throw mechanic is simply not interesting enough as a Combat System to hold your attention, and the Mini-games feel uninspired, pointless and tacked on.
The only thing that ties this to the Crystal Chronicles series is its heavy emphasis on picking up and throwing stuff.
There's nothing "true FF" about it at all.
Not that it HAS to be, but it's still boring.
11/19/09
Erm. Wait. Wrong article.
I'm encouraged by the diversification of the "Crystal Chronicles" idea. For as much as people deride the entire FF series for being repetitive and uninspired, I have to wonder if they've ever ventured away from the numbered series and into CC, or Tactics, or Dissidia, and actually tried out some of these "Final Fantasies in Name Only."

While I have no doubt it'll be enjoyable I'd rather they just fixed what was wrong with the series. Namely that it was an excellent multiplayer game that always had some difficulty in actually playing it.
The Gamecubes: "YOU MUST HAVE FOUR GBAS AND LINK CABLES TO PLAY!"
The DS's... well admittedly this was mainly hampered by the lack of online. Local was fine though. I find with most handheld games I find it annoyingly difficult to play good multiplayer on them as I simply don't know enough people with the same handhelds.
The DS version was great fun though. Me and my friend quickly found out how to completely break the platforming elements.
Namely:
- Selkies can double jump.
- If you jump on to someone (rather than having them pick you up) you can then jump off their heads.
- If the person you're standing on jumps you can then catapault yourself off them.
Combined with other neat tricks like dropping magic orbs to use as platforms to get a little extra height we could get nearly anywhere. One of the best tricks was one person could stand on a platform and even if the other person can't quite make the jump up there your partner can grab and pick you up if you're just close enough.
Good times.

We never got into the second one though, I think it was Echoes of Time? A mate of mine did get it though, and he said he had a lot of fun with his kid sisters too, so maybe that's their niche :P
The original Gamecube game was brilliant as well, especially the fact that you could bring your character over onto friends' save files as a guest. Cables were never an issue, what with games like Four Swords (and for some reason I'm thinking Warioware, correct me if I'm wrong). If this was a multiplayer game, I might well have picked up a Wii just to play it.

However, I think it is safe to say that it is most definitely not a traditional jRPG nor does it belong to any of its associated genres (strategy RPG, action RPG, etc.).
The game does open with a very impressive bang, though. I hope the creativity of that segment stretches throughout the entire game.
