Ice Block Tease

Blizzard Website Teasing Something Cold

If the Blizzard web page were a real world location it would be completely surrounded by Kotaku readers, as evidenced by the fact that we've received a ton of tips pointing us to the new splash image at said site, seen above in all its pristine glory. It appeared over the weekend as if willed by magic (CSS), teasing visitors who found themselves staring into its icy depths.

So what the hell does it all mean? Ice with barely legible runes certainly sounds like Wrath of the Lich King, though outside of some hidden features or perhaps an official release date I can't imagine why they'd tease that. Many of you seem to think it's Diablo III: Diablo on Ice. Me? I'm going to go for those bearded bad boys who come from the land of the ice and snow, World of Lost Vikings. Hopefully we'll know by this weekend, when the Blizzard Worldwide Invitational does Paris. Until then, let the speculation fly!

The Agency Team Sticks To Its Guns (No Licking)

At the US PlayStation Blog, director of development Matt Wilson of Sony Online Entertainment's Seattle studio, currently at work on development of The Agency, introduced himself with some quick updates from a recent open house alongside the recent ION Game Conference, which included an Agency-themed event.

At the event, apparently, everyone got to gawk at this giant gun made out of ice. Said Wilson, "A warning I gave during my introduction threatened to become our new tagline: 'Don't lick the gun.' (I personally think this is good advice in general, regardless of what the gun is actually made out of.)"

Wilson also recapped how the SOE Seattle studio got started, and how The Agency project came to be.

LotRO Reaches The Ocean

The latest chapter in the ever-expanding Lord of the Rings Online introduces Forochel, a new region which lies in the far, frozen north of Eriador, which gives players their very first chance to see the ocean in the game. It's funny how you don't notice such a thing missing until it's pointed out to you. Along with giant patches of water, Book 13: Doom of the Last-king promises new cold-based terrain effects. What that means exactly I have no idea. Perhaps slippery patches of ice? It's about time for an MMO to introduce slippery patches of ice. Failing that, some really well-crafted fjords. Turbine promises more info on the next free expansion shortly. For now, it's LotRO on ice! More »

Capcom Trademarks Lost Planet Colonies

What does Capcom have planned for the future of its Lost Planet franchise? Plenty. According to Capcom's director of marketing Jack Symon, "There will be more on Lost Planet, for sure." Already a hit on the Xbox 360, with a PC port in the works and mobile phone version, Trag Zero, released late last year, it's clear Lost Planet isn't going to be a one-off for Capcom. More »

Tetris Ice Cubes

Granted, you have to plan a barbecue at least a month in advance to make enough ice cubes to truly make enough ice blocks to give it a Tetris feeling (and who knows how much time to make the mold), it doesn't mean this Instructable is impossible to make for anyone who has a little time and patience. The step-by-step goes through the process of building a unique silicone Tetris mold that you can then put water in and freeze. Regular store-bought food dye gives the block its color, but I can't imagine what happens when it melts in your drink and gets all over your lips. You'd probably look like you've been sucking on Otter Pops all day.

This is simply spectacular. If Nintendo doesn't have this sculpture at their next big event, with chilled Tanqueray pouring from his sword, I'm going to be deeply disappointed. More »

Legend of Zelda: Nerd Rap Commercial

Here's a little nugget from 1987! It's interesting to see what Nintendo thought would sell their system in this time period. "Your parents help you hook it up!" it exclaims at the end...yeah, that really makes me want it now. More »

Video Games Awesome.

If I understand correctly the endless phonemical repetitions spraying with spittle from his rubber-lipped word hole, Stuttering Craig over at Screw Attack wants me to call your attention to their newest series, Awesome Video Games. And I will, fully admitting my own lack of tolerance for doofuses — no matter how ironically portrayed — screaming in close-up into the camera for five minutes straight about the amazing megahertzal might of the NES. This Mr. Belvedere meets Super Mario Brothers on Ice video is like a live action version of a Family Guy postmodern cultural reference, or, as you humans call it, "joke."
