Well, if they were such a major developper, I doubt Microsoft themselves would have treated them the way they have by not letting them develop Crackdown 2.
Well in his defense it's a MS game the devs developed. Yeah it's a very thin one at that but who knows?
Makes me think of David Reeves and the other old codger in suits. Does anyone think they really play the games on the consoles they represent? I mean it's one thing for CliffyB to talk about games and whatnot but David Reeves? Or maybe Kutaragi?
He's not going to be talking to devs on a daily basis. He has other job roles. Why the hell should he know who Realtime Worlds are? It's not like they developed for 'his' console.
As for "Oh, it came with a halo 3 beta, the biggest compblahblahblah".. It's a beta. A beta. No one cares. Except the rabid fanboys of the series. Everyone else is happily wandering around not caring.
Should he be reading up on a game because it comes with a beta of a game that is competition for 'his' console? No. Why would he. What could knowing who Realtime worlds are have done for him at that stage? Nothing. Nothing at all.
Had Realtime Worlds been slated for a PS3 game and then switched sides, then sure, maybe he ought to know who they are. But they didn't.
To me, this is not news. Just an attempt to make someone look a bit foolish. It won't work, though, because frankly, it's like telling an English major that they don't know about Thermodynamics. No one gives even half a shit.
@metallicorphan: Truth, though I don't know why you limited it to PS3. It more fun than 90% of stuff I have played on any console. It's just a shame games aren't scored on fun.
@Jandlecack: David Reeves is hardly "any Xbox 360 owner" though. He worked as a major player in the European games industry. And it shows a fairly startling lack of knowledge of his LOCAL industry players when he isn't even aware of the existence of the dev that put out one of the breakout hits of this console generation.
@reno84: Bear in mind that the average PS3/360 gamer is probably better informed on who-developed-what than most industry executives. I don't think the latter spend as much time as we do reading blogs and videogame websites.
From here on out, I fully expect Kotaku and the rest of the gaming press to quiz all industry executives on their knowledge of small developers (especially those with such striking names as "Realtime Worlds").
I'm not defending Reeves just for the sake of it - I mean, the only reason I love the guy is precisely because his insane statements usually make me laugh out loud.
But in this case, I think yer all making a big thing out of a very small matter.
@Jandlecack: I'm from England, Crackdown is tied with N+ as my favorite games on the 360. Yes Gears is a masterpiece and Bioshock had the best graphics/atmosphere of any game I have played but Crackdown was pure pick up and play madness. It ruined GTA for me because it had fun gameplay that made GTA feel restrictive.
I take your point that the game only sold 1.5 million copies world wide 1 million of which were in the US but for a game released in 07 on one platform that's pretty good going.
The point is, Crackdown is among the few good exclusives that the 360 can dangle over the PS3. It's parallels with inFamous show they were clearly looking to fill the same void and putting it with the Uncharted 2 Beta, also hints that they were thinking about Crackdown. For him not to know who they are would be a big surprising to me.
@cavalerie: I would agree if that was a game like "ShellShock 2: Blood Trails" but these are the developers of Crackdown, one of the best games this generation has spawned not to mentioned the game that inFamous is most compared with. You know the other sandbox, super powered game that was bundled with a beta.
It's not like it was just any beta either, it was a beta for Halo 3, Sony's biggest competition franchise-wise.
So yeah, they might not be as famous as Capcom but I doubt the head of Sony Europe had no idea who they are. It sounds more like he was playing down their role sort of like how you pretend to forget the name of your ex-girlfriends new partner to down play his importance.
That may be true, but they still are the largest Scottish developer and winner of multiple awards for Crackdown so based on sheer size and reputation alone they should be in the realm of David Reeves' knowledge.
And technically it's their second game although I never heard of or played their first one.
@Mike Newlad: Crackdown initially sold because of the Halo 3 beta. Not many people actually cared about Crackdown until after the fact. Kind of undermines the game when it sells off a demo. Sort of like Dragon Quest 8 outside of Japan - even though that turned out to be a grand game many purchases were made for that FFXII demo.

A major third party dev in Europe would be the now "deceased" Free Radical. Companies with a history and a couple of great games under their belt.
Go out in the UK and ask any Xbox 360 owner if he knows who developed the game "Crackdown". Guess the results.

Of course, if a similar thing were to happen with Aaron Greenberg or Reggie Fils-Aimé, we'd see just as many people (from other parts of the spectrum) jump on their case.

Correct me if I'm wrong but Realtime Worlds have only developed Crackdown for the xbox360.
I wouldn't call them a major developer after only one game on only one console.

"many purchases were made for that FFXII demo."
And you know this from who you said?

Because, ya know, there's this little company out there by the name of Rockstar.
