I didn't enjoy Hotel Dusk as much as other adventure games. Normally, I love games with heavy lashings of dialogue (eg the Phoenix Wright series).

However, while Phoenix Wright's story is very well tied in to the gameplay and has enough twists and turns to keep you glued to the screen for hours, Hotel Dusks's story was extremely slow-paced, with a complete lack of suspense until the final chapter, and was complemented by "puzzles" that held no challenge whatsoever and were as related to the plot as the numerous interactive knobs and levers in Myst.

I still enjoyed the game as a storytelling experience, and I'll still probably buy the sequel, but I wouldn't consider it a classic adventure game.

I bought this game on launch. I still can't bring myself to progress past the first story arc (the first hour and a half) because I found the game to be utterly boring. I gave it to my sister and she adored the hell out of it, playing through it several times.

    One of these days... #hotelduskroom215

@(Starman) Starman [Key in repetitiveness.]: I like adventure games. If there was any adventure in Hotel Dusk, the developers should've tried to put some of it in the first hours of the game to keep my attention. Hotel Dusk is boring, even by adventure game standards. My sister tells me it picks up about halfway through, but I'm less than willing to sit through half an adventure game to get to the meat of the story when I can just pop in Etrian Odyssey and immediately be placed in the thick of things. The whole instant game over from certain innocent-looking conversation trees was a turn-off as well.

It's shame, the game had some personality, but personality can't carry a game unless you're trying to be minimalistic on purpose, and making a minimalist adventure game sounds even worse than having to play it.

@mintycrys is HOT for Bayonetta: Well perhaps I have more patience than you then, seeing as how I'm willing to sit hours grinding away in EARTHBOUND ZERO (yes, that game was awful in the Grinding category).

I quite found it enjoyable, but I agree with the devs needing to take the audience at first chance, rather than just forcing them to wait before getting to the punchline.

Also, while we're on the topic, how did you enjoy Etrian Odyssey and Trace Memory?

@(Starman) Starman [Key in repetitiveness.]: I found Trace Memory to just....not be a very good game. The puzzles were very rolleyes.gif.

Incidentally, I liked grinding in Mother Zero. There were only a few areas that you really needed to grind in (I love you, Woodoh!).

Now, Etrian Oddysey is grindier than a Korean MMO. It's also the finest dungeon crawler made in many a year. Imagine Demon's Souls with more personality and a higher difficulty. And the second one is even harder! They are challenging games that you have to constantly play smart at to even stand a chance at survival. #hotelduskroom215

This news made my day. Hotel Dusk is one of my favorite games.

The other big news being that the original Lufia team is making a new Lufia. #hotelduskroom215

@Ueziel: That, and the Tales team-produced Keroro RPG.

Square Enix better not ruin Lufia. That franchise hasn't had a single bad game YET.

@mintycrys is HOT for Bayonetta: Yesssssssss. I thought I was just being hopeful, since there are probably other Keroro things I'm not aware of.

Man I hope that comes out here. Actually, has Tales of Hearts gotten any mention of coming to the US? I didn't like Symphonia much but I was surprised at how much I enjoyed Vesperia.

@Manuel Calavera, Reaper Supreme: This is Namco we're talking about. there more chance of us getting a Tales DS game than the Vesperia PS3 port. :(

I wouldn't wanna play through Vesperia another time anyway. Twice is enough. #hotelduskroom215

@Manuel Calavera, Reaper Supreme: The game community thinks that the more they mention it, the more of a chance it has of being released. Most lifelong Tales fans are well aware of Namco's stance on western releases. Namco has passed over MANY Tales games for western release in the past. In this case, it's justified. Namco realizes that there were a good number of people that bought a 360 to play Vesperia (I bought the RE5 bundle and then proceeded to pop Vesperia into the tray), and they'll expect sales on a console with a smaller install base to be smaller than the 360 sales. If there were any indication that the PS3 version would sell some more copies, they might look into it. As of right now, however, they have no plans to do so, and the voice actors and actresses that worked on the English dub have, so far, not been recontracted for voice work. So if they're going to announce anything, it won't be for months, and every day it goes unannounced lowers the chances of a US/Eu release.

But then again, Namco might just surprise us all. I wouldn't count on it. They've let us Tales fans down so many times in the past, we generally expect it. :( #hotelduskroom215

Cannot wait. Hotel Dusk is my favorite DS game behind Phoenix Wright 3, PW1, and Mario Kart. Couldn't have enjoyed it more.

Also, here's hoping that Rachel returns in some capacity. The conversations with her in the first game were class. She and Kyle had great chemistry. #hotelduskroom215
