When I played Buckethead's "Jordan" for the first time in Guitar Hero II, I just assumed the multiple solo portions were a joke. I never expected anyone would take it seriously enough to actually, y'know, attempt to play but this guy did, scoring an impressive 95% on one of the game's infamously insane tracks. What do you think? More or less impressive than that expert level run of Pantera's "Cowboys From Hell" that I posted last year? I'm going with "more".

<![CDATA[R-Type Tactics... R-Type. Tactics.]]> Looks like Irem wasn't kidding when it titled R-Type Final, the supposed final shoot 'em up in the long running, hard-as-hell sidescrolling series. Yes, details are scarce, but from what we can gather by these awful, awful scans from the latest Famitsu, R-Type is ditching twitch gameplay for a more chin-rubbingly strategic bent. Hex-based, turn-based and awesome-based, R-Type Tactics looks like a crazy cross-genre shooter that's just crazy enough to work.

I promise, I'll be watching like a hawk for any and all updates on R-Type Tactics. Keep your eyes peeled for news and the inevitable online campaign for a North American release.

<![CDATA[Rumor: New PSP Next Spring?!]]>

The butternut dumpling thing has become more of a PSP based term, and this is the biggest dumpling yet: there's a new PSP due out this spring.

We have some word from a Sony mole, but not much in the way of solid facts. Here's what we know for sure (pretty much):

  1. 8GB of built in flash
  2. Still using UMD

And here's some speculation from P.J. McNealy of American Technology Research:

"Sony will likely introduce a refresh of the PSP hardware line, including a hard-disk drive PSP and a second PSP with no hard drive but with a significant amount of flash memory on board," he said. "We expect these products in Spring 2007, with the pricing for the hard-drive based model at $199 or above, and the new flash-based one below $199."

So wow. Holy shit. I desperately want more info, but our man on the inside was adamant that he knew nothing else, even with the straightrazor betwixt his quivering thighs.

<![CDATA[UPDATE Warren Ellis to Write Castlevania; Collective Geek Orgasm Soils Entire Planet]]>

Warren Ellis, creator of Planetary, Transmetropolitan, Nextwave, and the upcoming webcomic showcase Rocket Pirates is slated to write the Castlevania animated film.

Also, I got the nod to say what the animated D2DVD movie I'm writing is called. It's called CASTLEVANIA. Based on the longrunning series of videogames. For an entity currently known only as Project 51 Productions. A production blog will follow on the official site.

Nothing else is known at this time, but the best insurance against this movie being steaming moose pucky is hiring Ellis to write it. With a touch more luck we'll get some decent artwork and it'll all come together.
