Finally, a hardcore developer comes to its senses and realizes the Wii is for 1st party games, mini-game collections, and fitness titles only. The Wii is like poisonous uranium to hardcore third parties.
@FeaturePreacher: Why can't people like you just accept, there is no 'hardcore'/'Wii-owner' distinctions, there are simply different types of game that appeal to different people. take pac-man for instance, by 'modern' standards it is a casual game. There is no plot, no real objective. Just rinse, lather, repeat. I hate all this 'hardcore' spewing by folk who like nothing other than the latest WW2 shooter, something strewen with gore, or Halo based. Which for the record, sucked...Halo the original repetative corridor based shooter. Try something different like De Blob, Braid, World of Goo, or Klonda. Great games that aren't 'hardcore'
I think "polishing off" several other projects is a bit of a stretch seeing as "Grinder" and the roman combat game were just announced around E3 and are probably still in Alpha/Beta.

@voth: This article is a little misleading. The real story is the engine's lifetime license, rather than a per game one.
And Joe Kreiner is the one who has a problem calling Wii next-gen, not HVS. Take this from Gamasutra last March: "When you go to build out the particular platform that you want, then we do the texture creation for that particular platform. It makes it very powerful; it gives the developer the ability to share assets amongst their next-generation titles and their previous-generation titles -- or the Wii, however you want to fit that in."
I'd be surprised if they started off making full retail games for PS360. I'm expecting their first several offerings on the HD consoles to be downloadable affairs.
That said, I also wouldn't be surprised if they tried to fill in PS3 and 360's weak spots like they did with the Wii.
heh- maybe we'll end up seeing some generic platforming games or something.
Considering how much I enjoyed the Conduit, and the fact that I was pretty impressed by the graphics of Ghostbusters, I'd say this makes for a good combination.
But shouldn't they call it a leap to CURRENT generation consoles? The Wii is more like last gen.
@Face Imploder: The Wii doesn't need HD eye candy to be current gen. It just needs to be the console released after the Gamecube, which it is. Current gen and next gen are chronological terms. The Gamecube was the console from the last gen. The Wii is the next generation console after the Gamecube.
@Ferkner: Hey, we'll have none of your "logic" around here, mister! The Wii is last generation because it's graphics aren't as good, see! The fact that it has more advanced controls and vastly better sales than the other current generation consoles is irrelevant!
@Ferkner: I only meant the Wii was last-gen because it sits in the same category with developers. Every time a new multi-plat game comes out, the Wii and PS2 build are the same while the PS3 and 360 builds are usually far superior. Not just in terms of graphics, but in gameplay and quality as well (Ghostbusters, X-Men Origins, Call of Duty, etc...).
It's a shame though, some of these arguments against the Conduit doesn't sound like constructive criticism. it sounds like kids that are scared that the game is going to do something their favorite FPS on (insert console here) can't.
Namely... prove yet again that dual analog controls are trash for FPS gaming and the Wiimote/chuck is far superior...second only to mouse and keyboard. It doesn't matter how much better 360 and PS3 FPS games look than the Conduit. There isn't one FPS on either console that controls as good with the exception of UT3 on Ps3 because Epic understands that dual analog controls are shit for fast paced FPS action. Say what you will about the graphics, but the controls are what make the game more fun to play to me. Nothing is more frustrating in Killzone2, Resistance2, Halo, Gears of War etc, than having the drop on an enemy and you have to "tap tap...tap tap tap the analog because the crosshair just won't line up for the shot. Incremental movement isn't fluid enough. Then we get these ridiculous ideas like the Killzone2 brilliance of making all the guns have so much weight that it takes 20 minutes for a diesel soldier to turn around. Even if he's carrying a pistol.
Why can't I get this control setup for Killzone2. GG! You play the Conduit? THAT'S high precision control, not that shite you put in your game.
People are just going to say this is good because there's very else in terms of a good FPS with solid online multiplayer on the Wii. Same thing happened with Resistance on the PS3. I bought it on a recommendation and it's crap.
@Adhominem: I disagree. Resistance has some great multiplayer. Even some of the old stages are better than R2's. The Busyard for example is still a blast to play in.
Resistance 2 deathmatch though...a practice in frustration. It just wasn't as fun to play as Resistance.
Also, you make a good point about very little else being available, but Wii does have CoD: WaW online. Last I checked CoD was a good game. You might have heard of it but it's hard for me to keep up sometimes. MoH2: Heroes had a large fan following online for the Wii, I thought it sucked monkey intesticles but hey, to each their own.
@Zorba: your post is your opinion but the one point where you're flat out wrong is how Metroid Prime 3 has better controls. They were good but flawed because Retro didn't let us change the size of the dead zone. Even if you played the game at the highest sensitivity, you still turned too slow. The sad part is, The Conduit isn't the first Wii game to allow you to change the size of the dead zone...CoD 3 is. CoD 3 has better controls than Metroid Prime3 and is the first Wii FPS that showed the true potential of the Wiimote/chuck for FPS games. THEN Metal of Honor: Heroes 2 improved on that a bit but that game is such a glitchy half-assed mess, the controls are the only good thing you can say about it.
I'm really enjoying this game right now, myself, but the level design really is very pedestrian. The enemies look so fantastic, but the environments are, for the most part, pretty dry. Doesn't subtract too much from the gameplay, but it's enough that it makes me hope they get to make a sequel, and put more time into that sort of stuff.
This is the first review I've read that complemented the level design (see, e.g., Gamespot's review). Shortcomings sound like things that I would actually be bothered by (see, e.g., Gamepro's awful review). I may check it out, but I'm busy writing my thesis at the moment.
@shimage: I think "level design" was perhaps a wrong choice of words from the positive description. It sounds more like "interesting, seldom used environments."
Why do people care so much about the story in FPS? I have no clue what was going on in Halo 3 and I couldn't care less. Same goes for CoD4. I don't even remember the story in Perfect Dark other than there was Elvis and Mr Blonde who was a Skedar.
I don't get why people are saying you can't say "It looks good for a Wii game?" Why not? You can't compare it to a 360 or PS3 game b/c of the hardware.

Gameplay is boring. Enemies run at you in straight lines, you shoot them. Repeat.
Weapons are boring. Fun "alive" weapons? Try Prey, the scope that bit you in the eye.
ASE does not actually add to the gameplay, it is just a gimmick to collect bonuses.
Usage of Wii motion controls? Bad. Medal of Honor 2 had better, more immersing controls. Metroid: Corruption, too.
Speaking of Metroid: Corruption, that game stays my #1 FPS on Wii. It has style. Conduit? Not much.
