"I fear this is a style of gameplay that wears thin as it becomes familiar and your tenure as a gamer exceeds a decade or two".
I know exactly what you're talking about. And I think this is not only true for platformers, but for a lot of genres. As an old time gamer, nowadays I can't help but feel underwhelmed by a lot of titles out there, to the point where I'm looking more now into the story or other elements (not gameplay) to decide whether a game is appealing.
This is the reason why I get so thrilled when I see a truly fresh game, like Patapon on PSP. Games like that, that really carry a sense of freshness are really rare these days.
@gold163 Can (Not) Advance: Did you play new Prince of Persia? I'm a huge platformer fan, and I thought that PoP was gorgeous and fun with addictive gameplay.
@daytown: I haven't gotten the opportunity to; I don't own a 360 or a PS3, and I don't want to get the PC version solely because Ubi has a track record of ruining PC ports, and I probably couldn't run it well anyway. It looks gorgeous to me, but I'm still wondering what's up with everybody hating on the new Prince of Persia. Can someone explain it to me?
Before Kotaku finished loading I saw the words 'Jax and Daxter' and squee'd then I heard PSP and became sad.
NG c'mon, I love you and thank you for the PSP love...but gimme some PS3 love.
C'mon, Jax and Daxter on Uncharted's engine.
But enough fan wahh, a new Jax game is always welcome even if it's not on my first choice system, as long as the awesomeness is still there NG. You'll get my monies, I gotta buy a PSP for Dissida and BbS anyway.
Also, am I the only one who liked the first game the best? Not saying that the next two games were bad, because they were excellent games, but the first one was just my absolute favorite. Can't forget some of the "WOW" moments that Jak II had though, such as platforming high above the entire city.
I did, I love it fondly...it was so pretty! Me and my brother collected all of the Spark flies, Precursor orbs and those other things to get the 5 sec secret ending.
But I loved all of the Jax games, including Jax X but then again I like racing games.
That's why we NEED either a PS3 Jax game or the rumored Jax and Rachet game...how bout both?!
I would squee so loud that it would be heard from MILES!
*shrieks like a little girl*
I love me some Jak and Daxter of any form. It was my first PS2 game and the series for in general for me, although drastically different, were some of the best times I had.
Hell I was even one of the few that bought and played the shit out of Jak X.
I do worry about the camera issues though. Hope they get that fixed. Nothing worse than a platform game having a bad camera.

Sounds like it's coming along decently. Never been a huge Jak and Daxter fan, but if the digital download version of this one is any good I'll gladly give it a try.

I wonder just what it is that would make platforming fresh again. New obstacles? Or does the stagnancy run deeper than that?

But this just makes me sad. I just don't enjoy my PSP enough I guess, it has too much dust on it. =/

Hell, I'm gonna bust out my POG collection. I guess that'll regain popularity too.
