<![CDATA[Hellboy 360 Mod Is Better Than Hellboy Movies]]> I'm a longtime fan of Mike Mignola's Hellboy comics. And a long-time hater of Del Toro's cinematic "adaptations". But as bad as those movies are, they could be worse; they could be as bad as the Hellboy games.

Which is why I tread cautiously around anything connecting Big Red to this medium. Silly me! Because while Hellboy's games have thus far been universally awful, this custom Hellboy 360 console is just wonderful.

Textured to look like the Right Hand of Doom, it's not what you call "pretty". But then, neither is Hellboy.

<![CDATA[Del Toro Loves BioShock, Mehs Movie]]> Since earlier this year, there have been rumors of an inevitable no-brainer BioShock movie. If true, that adaptation would need a proven director who's able to handle dark, atmospheric movies. That adaptation would need Hellboy director Guillermo de Toro. The helmer writes on his official message board:

I love BIOSHOCK from a design point of view but Unless its a HELLBOY sequel I am not that eager to engage in another action-oriented movie. Even if the other elements are right. BUt- if I found the right pitch on the material, who knows- the BIOSHOCK universe is indeed wonderful.

Man, Guillermo del Toro is one of the few directors I can see making an unsucky BioShock flick. So, hear that? If he finds the right pitch, he's on board. If not, he'll still this still-rumored-movie out, and we'll get some crappy director instead. This isn't the first time his name has come up with a game adaptation. Del Toro almost says he almost directed the still-in-development-hell Halo movie, but ended up doing Hellboy 2 instead. About the unrealized Halo flick, he adds, "There's great movie to be made, read the novels..."

Full release after the jump.

KONAMI REVEALS FULL VOICE CAST FOR HELLBOY THE SCIENCE OF EVIL
Hollywood Standouts Selma Blair and Doug Jones Join Ron Perlman in Video Game Adaptation of Hit Entertainment Property
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
SANTA MONICA, Calif. - Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) - July 10, 2007 - Konami Digital Entertainment, Inc., today revealed the full voice cast for Hellboy™ The Science of Evil (working title), its upcoming video game adaptation of the smash hit entertainment property for the Xbox 360™ video game and entertainment system from Microsoft, PLAYSTATION®3 computer entertainment system and PSP® (PlayStation®Portable) system. In addition to Ron Perlman, who portrayed Hellboy in the 2004 feature film, Selma Blair and Doug Jones will reprise their roles from the motion picture as Liz Sherman and Abe Sapien to lend their voices to the game.
As Liz Sherman and Abe Sapien, respectively, Selma Blair and Doug Jones created enduring identities for their characters in the popular 2004 Hellboy feature film as they battled alongside Ron Perlman's imposing portrayal of the crimson-skinned warrior. Featured prominently in some of the most successful films of the last 10 years, Blair is well known for her roles in Legally Blonde and Cruel Intentions, while Jones recently lended his talents to the Academy Award-winning Pan's Labyrinth and Adaptation.
"With voice acting from Ron Perlman, Selma Blair and Doug Jones, and creative guidance from director Guillermo del Toro and Hellboy creator Mike Mignola, Hellboy The Science of Evil is shaping up to be one of the most faithful video game adaptations of an entertainment property of all-time," said Brian Christian, Vice President of Product Development at Konami Digital Entertainment, Inc. "Drawing from the mythology of both the comic books and the motion picture, we are able to tell an original story featuring all the characters, settings and visceral gameplay that fans could ever ask for in a Hellboy game."
Hellboy The Science of Evil lets players take control of Hellboy's incredible supernatural powers as they battle to overcome a terrible Nazi scheme. Wielding the massive Right Hand of Doom, players will be able to wreak havoc on both the enemies that stand in the way as well as the game's detailed levels, using the rubble they leave in their wake as weapons for even more bone crushing power. With the Xbox 360 and PLAYSTATION 3 versions of the game, players will be able to team up with a friend to battle through the game cooperatively via online play as a number of characters from the Hellboy universe, each with their own unique fighting style.
Developed by Krome Studios, Hellboy The Science of Evil is planned for release on the Xbox 360, PLAYSTATION 3 system and PSP system this fall. For more information on the game, please visit: www.konami.com.

<![CDATA[Clip: New Hellboy Trailer]]>

We've been hearing a lot lately about the upcoming Hellboy game, including the recent news that Ron Perlman, who played Hellboy in the movie, will be providing the voice for the comic book demon. This new trailer shows a bevy of monsters and destructible environments for your viewing pleasure. The European gothic village setting is a particular favorite! Hellboy and his Fist of Doom is set to bust out onto PS3, PSP and 360 later this year. Let's just hope that Konami can make Hellboy's trip from the comic page to the game console as smooth as his 2004 visit to the silver screen.

<![CDATA[Gallery: Hellboy Screens]]> hellboy02.jpgHere's a bunch of screenshots of Hellboy beating things to death with his massive glowing right hand of doom in the upcoming PS3 / 360 game. I love the character of Hellboy...just seems like a regular guy who also happens to be a demon summoned from hell by Nazis, who seem to be making an appearance in the game en masse, if the screenshots are any indicator. Silly Nazis.

The graphics look nice and shiny, but something about the Hellboy model strikes me as lifeless and unnatural...not that demons are all that natural in the first place, but still.

<![CDATA[Del Toro and Mignola Working on Hellboy Game]]>

Mike Mignola, creator of Hellboy and the hopefully greenlighted Amazing Screw-On Head cartoon on SciFi, is in discussions with director fantastique Guillermo Del Toro (Devil's Backbone, Chronos, Pan's Labyrinth) about making a Hellboy game.

Says Del Toro:

You can go from one environment, like the Gobi desert, to a haunted town in medieval Japan. And then you can go and play in the ruins of a castle that is full of Nazi doomsday machines. And then you can go and wander through the empty streets of a haunted Eastern European village. And each of those levels has a common threat enemy, and a great vibe to the gameplay.

Yup, sounds like Hellboy alright! I'm very pleased.

<![CDATA[Guillermo del Toro to Make Zombie Apocalypse Game?]]> DEL%20TORO.jpgGuillermo del Toro — the director of Blade 2, Hellboy and cult-favorite Cronos — is trying his hand at a video game. Not just any video game, though... a video game in Kotaku's favorite genre! We refer, of course, to the zombie apocalypse genre.

Details are scanty, but the game will be called Sundown, despite the fact that it is about zombies and not vampires. The brief description over at the Hollywood Reporter notes that players "will have to survive an apocalypse that leaves a world infected with zombies and other potentially fatal horrors."

Will it be good? Who knows? Guillermo del Toro's name attached to any product makes its quality erratic to predict. Hellboy in particular was a big rubbery one. That he's diving into a new medium makes things even more pessimistic. Still, the world can never have too many zombie games.
