Okay, I said something earlier that was positive, but these comments are saddening me.
Stop crying 'where's my favorite band' and consider what a good selection this is. We have nearly full spectrum coverage here, from the original blues metal of Sabbath and Ozzy to the hair metal of Ratt and Dokken to the doom of Candlemass to the frentic guitar wanking of Dragonforce to the black metal of Emperor and Rotting Christ and Slayer for the death (I know you'd prefer Death but they wouldn't make a very good soundtrack). We've got Anthrax and Overkill for thrash and Ministry for industrial etc. etc.
Someone thought to include Mastodon, Michael Shenker, Prong, Racer X, Riot (I never in a million years thought I would see Swords and Tequlia in a game), Savatage, Slough Feg, Tvangeste, Children of Bodom, Dark Tranqulity, Budgie and etc. when normally the EA Trax douchebag would just say 'Okay, get me some Korn and Offspring and my oh kid likes that Hey You're a Rock Star song'.
Accepting that Iron Maiden's licensing people are dicks, I suggest you all stop being such f#$ing whiny gits and view the glass here as more than half full rather than acting like a bunch of Larry Groznic twats. This is better than anyone could have hoped for for a big game release.
Crying into your Coke (since your mom wouldn't give you a Pepsi, just one f#@#ing Pepsi) is not Metal. Have a beer or something stronger and enjoy the goddamn music. Oh and get off my lawn, you little punks.
I am very happy to see High Speed Dirt on there. If I'm in a Megadeth kick I start out the playlist with that song, it fires my jets. It's just as much of a pump up song for me as One Armed Scissor, and that song makes me feel like I could destroy anything.
@PhatsMahoney: I am honestly shocked at how meTal that is. Yes, that's meTal with a capital T. Tornado of Souls, and SAVATAGE!
Now what the hell is this game actually like?
Sadly, as awesome as that list is, a game who's hero is named Eddie Riggs and has no Maiden is going to disappoint on some level.
As happy as I am to see Manson on there... why, exactly, *are* they on there? They aren't at all metal. They're industrial (and more recently, hard alternative with overtones of industrial).
...
Oh god, that sentence made me sound like a genre snob. My apologies.
@The_Mechanical_Writer: I actually like some Dream Theater; the point is that their attempts at aggression are flat-out terrible, and when it comes right down to it they're a bunch of extremely talented good Christian boys who should stick to doing progressive, emotional hard rock/metal like on their first couple of albums. Brutal Legend is all about "teh metall!!!!! \m/" and Dream Theater are not a band I would associate with such a thing.
Some very small amounts of good metal! Surprised! Lots of safe/baby metal (Albeit, some of that is pretty good too). Not too surprised about the rest of it :x
@Erwin: So tell me again how that disproves me? Seems like a dev vs pub issue where pub wins simply because. Did I specify the devs were going for T? Also, tell me one thing about the game that's M-worthy other than the "metal" aspect.
Thanks Owen for pointing out the lack of Iron Maiden, I don't have to do it instead :P Seriously, there's something wrong if you make a game about METAL and the biggest metal band out there isn't in the soundtrack... Blasphemy I say.
And why "Through the Fire and Flames"? Dragonforce have songs a lot better than this... case in point: Disciples of Babylon. It's a bit different than their usual SUPERFASTMETALOFDOOM, but it's a great song.
Otherwise there's some pretty good stuff on there. It's gonna be nice playing a game with a fun soundtrack instead of a soundtrack that sounds like something out of the average movie soundtrack.

Holy crap, that is a LOT of music. That's like three times as many songs as I thought they'd be able to get their hands on. I hope more than ever that this game is a huge hit when it comes out. After all the resources that EA is putting into it, I'd hate for it to not pay off. It would not only disappoint poor Tim Schafer yet again, but it would send a message that creative games like this aren't good investments.
For all the people wondering-
Iron Maiden is notorious for refusing to have their songs be licensed out. It's why they barely got the real tracks for Rock Band.
It'd be a miracle of wrangling for them to pull off Maiden.
Wow this list is sadly full of fail. Don't get me wrong I know that they're trying to get a good soundtrack that fits all types of Metal, but where's the more modern stuff?
Where's Machine Head, Fear Factory, Chimaira, Six Feet Under, Divine Heresy, Misery Signals etc. Instead the entire soundtrack is cluttered with horrible 80's BS. Whitesnake = Fail and even though they're modern, Dragonforce = Epic Fail.
Oh well, guess I can't complain too much, Black Sabbath, Slayer, Ozzy, Dimmu Borgir and a few other are there. I'm getting the 360 version, so if I don't like the music I can put on my own.
@OmegaArchetype: Wow, kinda figured the metal "elitists" would show up.
Look I'm not saying the bands I listed are the best out there, but they're the ones I enjoy. Forgive me if what metal I like isn't "real" metal, even though everything I listen to is metal regardless of whatever bs you guys call it.
People have different opinions, but no matter where I go if metal is ever a topic of discussion the term "Real Metal" is always thrown around which is utterly stupid. What if I were to say I didn't like Judas Priest or maybe I don't like Motorhead. Would I be sacrificed at the stake?
It's dumb how you "elitists" can't realize that there are more genres of metal and maybe not all of them you'll like, but regardless are still metal. Get over yourselves please, you're not the only ones on the planet and definitely not the only with certain tastes.
Sure, now that I think about it, maybe some of that music wouldn't be the best fit to the game, but out off all of the music there has to be something that could fit.
@OmegaArchetype: "It's dumb how you "elitists" can't realize that there are more genres of metal and maybe not all of them you'll like"
This coming from the guy who starts his post lambasting the game for having a soundtrack full of "fail" 80s metal? Yes, you're right, we should be more open-minded. Uh huh.
The way you're playing a martyr here is laughable. You shat all over the soundtrack, not diplomatically in a "not my kind of thing" sense but like it was a cockroach you found in your soup. You have no right to expect people to show respect for your taste in music when you show none for theirs, hypocrite.
@Toasticus: You got me. It was wrong of me to state my dislike in such a manner. Maybe I should have done it in a more tasteful way (like I normally do,) but it's too late now.
Doesn't really matter, because at least I wasn't trying to deny that 80's metal is metal. I was simply trying to show my distaste for much that's on that list. Doesn't mean I don't like music from that genre, but what I saw there specifically was disappointing.
Sorry if I made it sound like I was, but it wasn't my intention.
