@excel_excel:
Yeah it was. But playing offline death-match with bots and your family was really fun. Almost as fun as Halo:CE offline ... almost (if you'd believe me).
Sweet! Last time there was a double XP week-end on K2 I ended up getting addicted and playing non-stop for about a month.
Gained quite a few levels and unlocked most classes. First time I had unlocked so much in the online portion of any game.
And since K2 is the only game with online trophies that I'm still optimistic about getting the platinum, this is exactly the excuse I needed to get back into it!
If any game should have God of War style remastering (or whatever you call it) for the PS3, it's Killzone. That game was hampered by the PS2's limitations as I understand it. On a better hardware, it could play better.
Especially multiplayer. I remember seeing videos of the multiplayer. The framerate was really bad, disapointingly so.
I'll bite: I got hooked by the Bad Company 2 beta, and it's pace reminded me a bit of Killzone 2's multiplayer, which further reminded me, "Hey, I haven't played that game in a while." Maybe I will pick up those map packs and give it another go.
Anyone want to form an impromptu Kotaku clan/team with me, and go for some trophies?
@Mega-Driven: I'll be up for it, Megamoppy is PSN id but I haven't even played my copy of killzone 2 (or any killzone) yet but i'm confident i'll rise to the challenge. Also i have no mic :P
@b-radicate: The high precision option? it only makes your analogue deadzone smaller, but doesn't improve the lag. Now it's easier to shoot Helghast's head in SP. Still doesn't fix the lag when you nudge the analogue to aim, it'll be a fraction of a second before your reticule moves. The same with when you fire, there's a slight lag between when you press R1 and your gun actually firing.
I find this tolerable in SP, since you can take cover, you have all the time in the world to take aim without getting fire at too much. But in Mp when you need to constantly move, i find this frustrating.
@rich8606: "Still doesn't fix the lag when you nudge the analogue to aim, it'll be a fraction of a second before your reticule moves."
like that really matters? so you die, then what you keep dying because you simply don't have that fraction of a second? nitpickers will always be nitpickers...
Hmm, maybe now i can get those damn online trophies.. i hate online trophies.. well not really, i just hate games that have over 50% of the them be online only.
Devs should not make us slaves to multiplayer just for trophy completists like ourselves. Online players have rankings to oogle over. thats enough bragging rights for them.
@Slagathorian: @b-radicate:
Yeah, that is a killer for me too. I played Fear 2 on the ps3, and saw its online trophies. There were barely more than 1 or 2 ranked rooms, when there were they were started by someone who went AFK. There was ONE time I joined a full room, on ranked, and the people were mostly talking a different language . They NEVER started the game.
Yet despite that, most of the trophies were online. Some trophies pertained to doing things related to C4 in a ranked demolition room. I hate how I will never be able to 100% Fear 2 :l
To the contrary of what I expected, Modern warfare 2 had NO online trophies. This MAY be a game I can 100%, assuming I do it before DLC comes and screws up that counter on the game.
@Kamatari+: What's funny is I wouldn't have minded particular online trophies for MW2. I think having one for getting to level 70 would have been okay (but no "prestige" trophies).
But yeah, screw R2 and its "10k kills." Screw Red Faction and all its trophies for the online "hidden challenges." What a pain in the ass.
I loved my Dreamcast and also liked my Saturn. I loved Skies of Arcadia. Easily one of the best RPGs I have ever played. But I think Soul Calibur was the game that sold the system to me.
Sega had so many good and unique game ideas but they all fell on the wayside and never became popular with the majority. Too bad I say, people missed out on some great games.
I think the most compelling thing about the Dreamcast is the stuff Sega seems to have abandoned. The original Crazy Taxi was awesome, as was Jet Set Radio.
It's a shame, because when they do try something new, they just don't know how to market it. A Dreamcast sits next to all my (thankfully, backward-compatible) current-gen systems. Because dammit, sometimes a man just wants to play Cannon Spike.
It says something about the appeal of the DC that people still "celebrate" the release date every year and share their memories of it. No other console has that happen, not even "superior" ones like the PS2/SNES/NES.
@KaneRobot: i think that's more because they have superior successors which people are playing where as there is no replacement for the dreamcast. maybe that means its more uniqe? or maybe it just means gamers are occupied with new superior games rather than being held back.
@trevortibble: Not an unfair point, but I still can't really agree fully. This console was something special. I doubt we'll see anything like it again.
Sure, the reaction every year has something to do with the launch date being easily memorable, but really, the console was strong enough in quality titles to stand on its own in history even without that.
This year I moved from my home town to a bigger city, in the beggining of the year (february). Even after months I still don't know my neighborhood that well, there's still a lot to explore around here.
Anyway, this is DC related. I was just searching for one online on our version of ebay and I found out that the store selling it is in the same neighborhood I live now.
When I found the address I discovered that the place selling the DC and all kinds of awesome oldies is located below the street where I live now, a few blocks away.
I'm extremely excited and I'm going there tomorrow to grab my DC! :D
here's what i don't get: why is there so much love for the dreamcast? it failed for a good reason: it was garbage. people wanted to go forward and that was what the ps2 offered.
it had nothing on the ps2 in every respect. i don't understand why people bother to list dreamcast games since sony held (and still holds) the greatest library in gaming's existance.
@HolyOrangeCows: I smell someone trolling or someone who never owned a Dreamcast to know how awesome it was and how amazing it could have been had things went the right way.

Thanks for some of the most original crazy games, Sega...
IMO the Dreamcast really epitomized consoles having an "identity" as the first party titles had a very distinct Sega feel to them. Nintendo also does this very well, but I haven't been much of a fan of it since SNES. I love my Playstations - I have every generation of them - but there's really no cohesive Sony feeling, it's just a platform. Even in some new Sega games, there's something aesthetically distinct about their titles. Their games felt like they loved making games.
@fuchikoma: I agree with you on every single word that you're saying. Except that you are not a fanboy, you're a fan, because you play consoles from other brands (just like me). But I agree that there was a cohesive feel to Sega, just like there is one with Nintendo. Sony consoles are all awesome but they're more like a cluster full of good games with no cohesive feeling.
At some point in the past: Due to the huge demand and critical praise for both Shenmue and Shenmue 2, the Shenmue saga is completed with the most expensive and amazing game ever. At its conclusion Ryo uppercuts Lan Di into the cannon of a Gundam that was firing into a crowd of Nazi Zombies from the future. Its even more epic than it sounds.
Oh and Sega makes a 2d Sonic game with 3d textures and resolution that is widely considered to be far superior to any Mario game released. Nintendo keeps releasing Mario games with annoying characters and lame plot/gameplay devices nobody wants. Many call for a return to old 2d Mario games. Nintendo ignores them.

Say it like it is! Too bad it's a dying trend. Luckily KZ2 had bots.
Another sad dying trend is offline (or even online) splistcreen FPS. So sad :(

Uncharted 2's online trophies are perfect. Complete 1 Co-Op, complete 1 Competitive. Robert is your mother's brother.
None of this "get 10,002 kills online" nonsense.
No "get a 50 kill streak".
Multiplayer has its own competitive element. It doesn't need an artificial one tacked on.
11/24/09
Kill 100,000 of the locust horde.
Yeah, Because I have nothing better to do, than kill ONE HUNDRED THOUSAND ENEMIES!
What a BS achievement.
Achievement Unlocked: Good luck ever having sex!
