The last paragraph was supposed to say "head-to-head against a Big Sister ..." My mistake.
And yes, the developer confirmed there are multiple Big Sisters. They won't be as ubiquitous as Big Daddies were in the first BioShock, but there are more than one. #bioshock2
"... going head-to-head against a Little Sister and ending up the last one standing."Of course you were. That was hardly even a fair fight. All you have to do is shove her. And what's this about multiple Big Sisters? I thought there was supposed to be only one, a saved Little Sister from the first game who came back for whatever reason. Are they all back as Big Sisters now?
Edit: Yep, I see now that GameTrailers revealed the Big Sister thing. Thank you, Bioshock Wikia!
I enjoyed the first Bioshock. Hopefully they add more elements to allow multiple playthroughs. My only problem with the first is that once I completed it, I didn't feel the need to pick it up again. #bioshock2
Personally I thought Bioshock was a wonderful game. With that said, I don't get why it won GotY from many places. Admittedly I don't remember much else that came out in 2007, sooo maybe everything else blew chunks?
What I don't get about this, now, franchise is how people rave about it. To me it's yet another FPS, albeit a good one. Is it the story people like? Is it the mixture of fantasy with the art deco setting? Is it the Big Daddies? All of the above? I am by no means saying any of it is bad, but I remember when it came out talking to a friend that stopped just short of grabbing me by the shoulders and yelling, "OMFG I CAME BUCKETS!!" He did say, "Best. Game. Ever. AMAZING," however.
Good game, you bet, great game? Ok, I'll give it that too. Most incredible take on the FPS genre and prone to change my life? No... not so much. #bioshock2
@Vecha: Tired of America's Solution to Health Care.: If that's the case, his life changes quite frequently (at least once a year if not more depending on how many games win it) #bioshock2
The important thing to keep in mind is that Game of the Year does not mean "best game ever".
It simply means that amongst titles released that year, it was the best.
You could very well get a list of GoTY nominees that looks like this:
Crappy Game
Crappy Game
Crappy Game
Less Crappy Game
Crappy Game
In this case, "Less Crappy Game" would win. Doesn't mean the game itself is amazing, just the best of that year.
(Of course, I'm not saying this was the case in 2007, there were some great titles that came out.)
If I remember correctly Halo 3 won game of the year for 2007 and that has sparked a long debate that a game that arguably brought nothing new to the table won over a game that many consider to be a masterpiece, combining storyline, a unique sense of style, and gameplay.
Personally, I thought BioShock deserved GoTY over Halo 3.
Now, don't get me wrong, I love me some Halo 3, I just felt that BioShock really broke away from the pack displayed video games as a form of art, while Halo 3 was just another update of an already popular series.
But yah...that was 2 years ago. All water under the bridge. (At least it is for me, I doubt Bioware feels the same way.) #bioshock2
@Vecha: Tired of America's Solution to Health Care.: What? Where did I say GotY needed to change a life. Not at all. Maybe change how I view games or set a new standard, sure. But change my life...? I don't think any one game has done that. Games in general, sure, I'd say that.
I was only saying "Most incredible take on the FPS genre and prone to change my life" as some people seem to have claimed as much. My friend for example. #bioshock2
@Sl0th: Oh I know GotY doesn't need to be 'best game ever.' Modern Warfare 2 could very well earn Game of the Year this year and, given that leaked airport level, I'd say it could very well be deserving.
I think a 'Game of the Year' should push boundaries, change our minds about games and gaming, and bring something new to the table. Did Halo 3 do that? No, not really. It had some nice new online multiplayer things, but it didn't really change how I viewed games. Bioshock didn't either for me though. I did think, "Hey, this is cool. I like this." But I didn't walk away going, "Whoa... why aren't more games like this?" This year Uncharted 2 is the game I'd have to say is, easily, one of the best games I've played in the past five years (and I LOVED MGS 4.)
All I was asking in the original post why people liked this game. Hey! I liked it too! I just didn't think it was as good as some seem to say. But I am by no means saying it's bad!. For the record I think Bioshock was an incredible game. #bioshock2
@Sl0th: Indeed. This year I think we've got a few though.
Uncharted 2 for it's incredible graphics, wonderful story telling, and amazing gameplay. Modern Warfare 2 is sure to push some buttons (already has.) Borderlands I'd argue does some new things too and is a first in a few areas. There has been other notables too. Scribblenauts was... interesting. Batman: AA has certainly set the bar for all other comic based, and I dare say movie based, games.
2009 has been a wonderful year for games and we gamers. #bioshock2
@Sl0th: Where did Halo 3 win GOTY? The vast majority went to Call of Duty 4 and BioShock, with BioShock having received a number more from the main outlets, prompting the 'GOTY Editions' and so forth. #bioshock2
Sounds pretty good. I don't get why people are complaining about the inclusion of multiplayer though, sure the original didn't have it, but neither did Uncharted and the sequel had multiplayer and turned out great. And this multiplayer is being developed by another dev team unlike Uncharted 2. And Uncharted 2 turned out fantastic! #bioshock2
@nukee: Oh yeah I see that. But in Bioshock we know that from the beginning the multiplayer of B2 is being working on my a seperate dev, so there's no chance of that happening. #bioshock2
@excel_excel: Good point. I just tend to ignore those people. I don't really need a strong reason to visit Rapture a second time. Although the if they actually follow through with the 3rd, I'd much rather see a prequel with rapture at it's best. #bioshock2
Before reading this, I was completely apathetic towards Bioshock 2. I was happy with the way things played out in the first game, and really felt that it said all it needed to say.
I'm still not convinced that the storyline needs a sequel, but the fact that we're dealing with an antagonist with another strong philosophical ideology (Humanism? Communism? Could be either, seems interesting!) has me wanting to learn more.
Surprisingly, I'm mostly interested in the multiplayer. If I'm understanding what Monty wrote, you play a character that you level up and customize with exp points gained from matches? Because that's an awesome CoD-WoW mashup that I'd like to play. Also, props on giving the multiplayer its own timeline and story that logically fits within the narrative.
1. Getting rid of 1 Big Sister, and making them just a tough regular enemy - congrats, now they are "like" Big Daddy!
2. Bigger fault, and a sign that Levine was not involved - how come Sofia Lamb is there? Rapture was created for like-minded individuals, industrialists, supporters of self-interest and capitalism. Did Lamb sneak in there? Why? For what purpose? Doesn't seem like they thought it over, they just did same old "one psycho is dead, quickly, get another one!"
This is fundamental fault with regards to Bioshock 1. #bioshock2
@Castor_Krieg: I completely agree with your first point. All of my info on the game up to this point suggested that there was simply "THE Big Sister," making her this terrifying nigh-unkillable enemy that chased you throughout the game. Now she really is just one of a series of midbosses.
But I think the storyline could lend itself to your second point. Didn't the first game explain that while Rapture was initially a haven for people who thought like Ryan, his faults and extreme measures eventually pushed people away and into opposing ideologies? I know that Fontaine snuck in (right?), but Tenenbaum eventually had a crisis of faith towards Ryan, as did the actress who he knocked up. I agree that the trope is less impressive the second time around, but I don't think it's a storyline-breaking move...yet.
let's hope they add something really new to this game. from the sound of everything up to now, it's just an expansion of the previous one. we need a change the size of the gravity gun on half life 2. #bioshock2
@NeöStarr: a big drill is just a melee weapon, unless you can actually use it to drill stuff for some new puzzles. and you "were" a big daddy for a while in the first one. those are not big gameplay changes, just aesthetic ones. #bioshock2
@Vecha: Tired of America's Solution to Health Care.: of course not, but it was the most visible change of many that made that game so great. the physics, the facial programing, the way the gameplay was fine tuned, the voice acting. I'm just saying that Bioshock 2 is sounding like more of the same, apart from the multiplayer. #bioshock2
@TRT-X: yah, sure, because fine-tuned gameplay, physics and voice acting are all visual aspects that can be prettier, rite?
Please, reading comprehension. Improve it and come back to us.
The gravity gun and physics though...I'm a bit iffy...
Personally, I didn't care for HL2 as much...suppose I had too much hype for it...seeing as how HL was such a difference in a stagnant moor of FPS's... #bioshock2
@D-K, a burning sensation: Sorry, but I just have to say this is one of the most pointless comments I've ever read and it's coming from a star commenter? #bioshock2
@D-K, a burning sensation: You play as a leprechaun warlord tormented by your past. It turns out the nightmares that have haunted you forever are actually lessons sent to you by an interplanetary consciousness. Now you and an exiled dog-angel have to team up to fight crime in multiple dimensions.
Its also played through only quick time events. #bioshock2
@D-K: New weapons and ammo types, smarter AI, new enemy types, hacking made fun, plasmid combos, and adopt a sister [kinda like escorting her in the first one].
Plasmid combos sounds like the best thing. Freezing a splicer and then sending them flying in the air via cyclone... NICE. #bioshock2
Come on man, everyone has a little lapse now and then.. even us holy, sacred star commenters can dabble in some trollism or pointless ramblin every now and then...
Buzz is pretty awesome game. Though it's heyday was the PS2 versions,. t he PS3 versions have the power to have a ton of questions from get go, ton of modes and now DLC packs. but it was kinda lacking. the online sucked too.
No Rose either.
This version sounds to have better online, and new characters which is cool. No new game modes mentioned though? Cool the DLC works on both.
My mastery of Buzz got me my current room too. We had a comp with pool (I sucked, badly) hotdog eating contest (3rd), cracker contest (I've apparently found my party trick) then Buzz, which I won.
So I got the second best room. woot.
Oh for cheap controllers just find a PS2 version in the bargain bin, I got Ps3 Buzz Quiz TVfor cheap in a sale ( and store discount, woot for friends) and the PS2 Buzz Hollywood with controllers for £10 in a bargain bin.
Sure they are wired, but that's 4 controllers n a game for 1/4 the price of the wireless controllers.
But yeah, Buzz is a Party game must for PS2 and Ps3 owners. Unless you have a Wii, but everyone knows how to do a pubquiz, and it does 8 folks not just the Wiis 4. #buzzquizworld
To you, Mom is a palindrome. :P
~~~~~~~
But more on the serious side, it's nice to see that they added a shocker challenge to the final round. But after all, isn't that's what supposed to happen in a Final Challenge?
I have a feeling this game is gonna have me pressing buttons faster than I can pull out the blocks from a Jenga tower and build a sculpture and disregard the entire game. #buzzquizworld
For me, BioShock was all about the story and I was really worried that they wouldn't do the first iteration justice.
A Rapture ruled by Sofia sounds immensely interesting and for that, I'm quite grateful. #bioshock2
