Do you think they could do one of the Covenant in disarray being slaughtered by Chief like in Pablo Picasso's Guernica and all abstract? that would be worth seeing... #halo3odst
WOW! The haters are out. Loving all the comments on "Boo, 6 hour sp = ripoff." Yet no one seems to bitch about the 5-6 hour sp in MW2. Saying it is a shitty expansion pack with nothing else to offer is just silly. Please people, MW2 may be fun (dont know, haven't played), but don't just thrash shit without thinking about what you're typing. #halo3odst
@FatherFingers: Well, I think the difference is that ODST only offered the campaign as new content, (multiplayer was just all of Halo 3's on 1 disk), where MW2's multiplayer is the meat of the game.
Plus the co-op modes adds up, gives the game a better perceived value. Honestly, if one had never played Halo 3 multiplayer, the value would be on par.
But I agree, it is funny how people see value. Myself, for instance, won't think twice about buying a game I think will be mediocre in retail if it's in the $15 range, I consider that a risk free purchase.
On XBLA, however, I carefully consider my purchases, especially if it's 1200 points. #halo3odst
@Culebra: I'm the same way when it comes to XBLA purchases...but then I'll hop into gamestop and scrounge for the old / cheap games. Why does that seem so much easier than buying stuff online? The tangible feeling of having the game in your hands? #halo3odst
@Opuelas: I'm guessing that has a bit to do with it. Being able to hold a physical copy gives a greater sense of ownership. Also, with me, I think it's my expectations. When I'm in the store, I'm looking to buy. Also, I'm programmed that a disk based game is expensive, so relatively $15 isn't bad. I think I also expect a more 'full' experience, whatever that means.
With XBLA/PSN, I expect the games to be more time wasters than anything, even though this is increasingly untrue. Also consider that on XBLA, $15 isn't actually $15, you're usually left with residue points, which is just extra money tied up.
It's a big gray area, this moving concept of what makes something 'worth' it. #halo3odst
Why would Microsoft's pride be hurt, MW2 sold the most on the 360.
Also, others have already pointed out that MW2 is on three different platforms while ODST is exclusive to one.
Furthermore, three million sold copies is a solid number. Every GOTY contender this year aside from MW2 won't be sniffing that until the end of next year.
@Trey: I appreciate Halo and play Halo 3 system link nearly every month with friends (gaming w/ friends is always better in person).
But I thought this game was a ripoff. It definitely should have been priced lower.
But hey, MS sold 3 million copies at a high price and they knew they could all along. Selling 5 million copies at $30 rather than $60 would have still brought in less revenue. #halo3odst
I'm not saying MW2 doesn't deserve it or anything (believe me, I had the game 5 days before street date), but people act as if Halo's numbers aren't impressive to begin with.
@CustomFirmware: Halo wasn't and still isn't anything special. There has been deeper and better multiplayer on the PC for almost 20 years: Unreal Tournament, Quake 2, Team Fortress, Classic, Redneck Rampage, Duke Nukem 3D.
It just got so big because instead of having a $1000 computer, parents could just buy their kids a $300 xbox to play, and that released the floodgates to what is ,by any gamer that has been around the block, a mediocre arcade style shooter.
IMO, Modern Warfare evolved it to the next level. Similar to how Counter-strike came out as a mod and had a different style than the arcadey shooters like Quake, silently caught on and still is one of the most played online shooters.
I'd argue that Counter-strike was the first mainstream FPS. If you went to any internet cafe/pc center you'd see at least half the computers running it.
Computers have definitely dropped a ton in price. I remember when my dad bought me a new computer for the family and it was a $2100 450 Mhz Pentium 3 IBM. For that much money you could get a sick set up going these days.
And I guess I agree with your point about the multiplayer since it allowed 4 player split screen, a rarity. #halo3odst
@Adhominem: Yea but PC gaming is shit and nobody cares about it outside of a tiny handful of people, PC gaming is falling by the wayside and its got nothing to offer outside of FPS, RTS and MMO's, consoles are the future.
The funny thing about PC gaming is that its own fanbase is what's destroying it.
Anyway that's mighty impressive, I bought ODST today and I'm loving it. #halo3odst
@Adhominem: Counter-Strike may have been mainstream for PC gamers, but not for gaming as a whole.
Counter-Strike 1.0 was released in 2000 (after many betas that started in '99), Halo was released less than a year later. It took a while for consoles to catch up on online play, but Halo's LAN play was popular nonetheless. #halo3odst
@Adhominem: That's all opinion. I've played all those games you've listed for countless hours. I and many others still enjoy Halo and will continue to do so for a very long time.
I'm playing through MW2 right now and as far as it taking it to the "next level" is absurd. It does some things very, very well but I see no innovations.
Halo and MW are two very different shooters; many preference one over the other, but they are both extremely good games. Halo 3 was released two years ago and has a thriving community, as does MW.
@Adhominem: The retail version of Counter-Strike was released in November 2000. It was first released as a download in March 1999, but that was a very early version.
Also, Halo's LAN play supported up to 16 players. #halo3odst
@Kyosuke_Nanbu: Really now..... wonder why almost every game is getting ported to the Pc.
Better graphics perhaps since you know the 360's processing and video card are outdated. #halo3odst

These, quite honestly, remind me of those landscape images that you see and can buy at the souvenir shops abroad.
Now No. 2 is admittedly cool, but not $175 cool. :P
But anyways, the fact that this is limited to 100 printings should get the antiquarians' panties all riled up in a bunch. #halo3odst

Halo 2 was definitely special. It paved for console multiplayer, whether you loved it or not.
Halo 3 may not have been gold, but it's perfectly polished silver. It's a blast to play with friends. And that's why it's so popular.
I agree, it is mediocre, but fun with friends. Something a lot of games lack.
Comparing console multiplayer to PC multiplayer is just wrong. It is universally known that PC is indefinitely superior multiplayer wise.
By the way, now you can get a decent gaming rig for $500-$600 ;o
Also, Counter Strike *greater than* all :D.
