Halo Legendary Maps Are Xbox 360's "Deal Of The Week"
If you've waited this long to grab Halo 3's "Legendary Map Pack," you're probably waiting for a deal. Thankfully, one has come in the form of the Xbox LIVE Marketplace Holiday Deal of the Week.
Dropping from the already reduced price of 600 Microsoft Points, the trio of maps — Avalanche, Blackout and Ghost Town — can be yours for a mere 400 Microsoft Points. That's if you're a Xbox Live Gold member, which you really should be if you're paying money for multiplayer maps.
The deal kicks off tomorrow worldwide. Happy mapping!

2008 Child's Play Charity Dinner Auction Is Swagtastic
The 2008 Child's Play Charity dinner auction is coming up next week, giving gamers a chance to dress-up for a good cause and possibly win the microwave oven of their dreams. While the Colorado Kotaku contingent readies for the annual Funde Razor event to benefit the Child's Play charity, the Penny Arcade guys are gearing up for their own swag-filled event in Seattle next week. This year's event will see some pretty amazing gear auctioned off in the name of sick children everywhere, including a Master Chief helmet signed by Bungie, Rooster Teeth, and the PA staff; a bronze-cast World of Warcraft statue of an orc riding a wolf (pictured here); a black Dreamcast signed by former Sega boss Peter Moore; and an official Harmonix microwave. Yeah, not sure about that last one either.
Tickets for the event are on sale until Friday or until they are all gone. $125 gets you an evening of fine food, game industry hob-nobbing, and a chance at a microwave you'll be telling your grandchildren about. Hit the jump for details. More »

Halo Trilogy Soundtrack Available Tomorrow
Fans of the music of Bungie's Halo series are in for a real treat tomorrow, as Sumthing Else releases a 5-disc soundtrack set spanning the series' history, complete with a Halo Wars preview.
The 5-disc set contains the complete original soundtracks to Halo: Combat Evolved, Halo 2, two discs worth of Halo 3 soundtrack, and a special DVD containing four tracks from the upcoming spin off title Halo Wars, along with a behind-the-scenes look at a recording session. While no price is mentioned in the press release, Best Buy is showing it available for pre-order today at $34.99, which is quite a bargain considering the sheer amount of music included in the set.
The full set should be available tomorrow at retailers around the country, or online via Sumthing Else's digital download store.

Here's What You Need To Know About Being A Pro Gamer
Tom "Tsquared" Taylor, you know, the guy who plays Halo competitively in Major League Gaming? He recently inked a deal with Dr Pepper to have his mug appear on bottles all across the country starting in January. Not only that, he spoke to ESPN The Magazine about what people should know about being a pro gamer. 11 points, actually. Some are quite surprising, especially when talking about how the league works similarly to other pro sporting leagues.
More »"Teams can trade or recruit free agents, but rosters lock before tournaments begin. We also have a coach, Zac Lammie. Before matches he studies the gameplay of opponents, and during events he roams behind us, keeping us coordinated and monitoring our power-ups. We make fun of him because we're better than him at the game, but he knows more about Halo than anybody."

Halo: The Complete Soundtrack
Sure, Halo 3 was so 2007, but there's always ways to pick up an extra penny or two the year after. When the heat's died down. Here's one: the complete Halo soundtrack. It's the soundtracks to Halo 1, Halo 2 and Halo 3, all in the one box, all for $30. Could be the perfect stocking-stuffer for that special Halo fan in your life. Provided they didn't buy the soundtrack to Halo 2, hear Incubus and hurl it out the nearest window, that is.

Halo 3: Recon Exposed In New Game Informer
Halo fanatics without the foresight of a Game Informer subscription will want to begin stalking the newsstands for the latest issue of the mag. It secures yet another highly coveted exclusive, with a 10 page preview of Bungie's next: Halo 3: Recon. According to the teaser for the magazine's December issue that means "10 pages packed full of info and screenshots straight from Bungie." Mmmm... screenshots.
Considering what we've seen so far, which consists of little more than a teaser trailer, box art and a quick info dump from the boys at Bungie, we're excited to see what the game looks like. Our most educated guess is that it looks like Halo 3 with some Earth bits scattered around, but you never know.

Halo Wars Action Figures Are Real-Time Posable
New Halo game on the horizon? Better get McFarlane on the case, get some small, plastic action figures churned out. Oh, what's that? McFarlane's already on the case? How unexpected. These figures may have been announced in September, but today, here's your first good look at them. They're coming smaller (at 2.5") than the standard Halo figures, and in packs of three, and all colour-coded, because Halo Wars is an RTS, get it? Expect them in March 2009.

Bungie: "Could You Imagine The Xbox Or Xbox 360 Without Bungie’s Halo?"
Halo set Microsoft up in this business. It sold a ton of Xbox games, and more importantly, it sold a ton of Xbox consoles. Halo 2 did the same thing, Halo 3 did the same thing again, except this time for the 360. Everybody knows that. And if everybody knows that, you can bet Bungie know it, and community lead Brian Jarrard isn't shy about asking "Could you imagine the Xbox or Xbox 360 without Bungie’s Halo?":
Bungie knew that Halo was a fun game, a game we really liked, but had no idea it would turn into what it has become today, let alone single-handedly make or break Microsoft’s entry into the game console market.
Yeah, Bungie definitely know it.

You Got Your Master Chief In My Spore!
It may not be as mindblowingly impressive as the amazing StarCraft recreation done in Spore, and the shine of Spore creature creations may have started to dull to the more jaded of us, but this collection of Halo universe heroes, beasts and vehicles, built in Maxis' sim-everything game is still pretty darn neat.
Culled from all over the Sporepedia, this collection of all things Halo remade in Spore is likely to impress. From Master Chief to the Prophet of Truth to Warthogs to even the little things, like a Covenant energy sword, there's not much that doesn't show serious craft and dedication.

Unboxing Table Top Halo
Jenga Donkey Kong Special Edition wasn't the only game to show up on my doorstep during my stint to Japan. I also received a box containing the Halo Interactive Strategy Game. The board game comes with an interactive DVD for "enhanced gameplay and battles", 15 sculpted character pieces and a 3D modular board.
I haven't had a chance yet to take the rather complex looking game for a spin yet, but I did break it open to snap a bunch of photos of the goodies included with each game. My favorites? The littlest Master Chief and the Flood Your Are Dead cards. Don't I know it. Don't I know it.
