New Halo Movie Script About A Kid Named John

Hollywood writer Stuart Beattie, of GI Joe and Gears of War, is a huge Halo nerd. And like many Halo nerds sheds the odd tear at the sorry state the series' film adaptation hopes have found themselves in of late. His solution? Write another script, one that can get made on the cheap, then throw in a couple of extra plot outlines to round it all off and make it a trilogy. Beattie's take is based loosely on the novel Fall of Reach, and is about a six year-old kid, named John, who's kidnapped by the USC "then brutally trained to become an elite Spartan warrior known as Master Chief 117". The movie then deals with humanity's first contact with the Covenant, and the...well, fall of Reach. Subsequent sequels would then focus on the stories of Halo 1 and Halo 3. And before you ask, we're assured this isn't an April Fool's joke, for what that's worth.

Peter Jackson Still Fighting For Halo Movie

We already told you that Halo was "entirely dead." But even after losing major partners Fox and Universal, Microsoft and Peter Jackson aren't ready to give up. According to Variety, Jackson has his highly-regarded co-founded studios Weta Digital and Weta Workshop knee-deep in preproduction. You may know them from Lord of the Rings or King Kong. Chances are that Weta's creative assets will make for one hell of a sales pitch, and besides, making a Halo movie with massive amounts of talent* seems like a no-brainer. Shouldn't Hollywood be excited? They're the ones blaming Halo for their lot in life.

*We all know I'm not a LoTR fan, but I absolutely loved Heavenly Creatures.

Peter Jackson's High Hopes for Halo Film: 'Hopefully It Won't Suck'

An interview with Peter Jackson over at film site Dark Horizons should at least temporarily ease any speculation that PJ will direct the Halo film. Jackson mentions throughout the interview that he is looking forward to a break, and implies that the break will be his producing of the Halo movie. When asked about fan reaction to the script, Jackson was pleased with the positive fan reaction. So the Latino Review script is legit, read it again if you hated on it when it leaked. More »

Halo Movie Director: Anyone But Uwe Boll

In what could become a mini-media circus as Lord of the Rings headmaster Peter Jackson begins making the rounds for King Kong press, rumors are leaking via 1UP that Blade II director Guillermo Del Toro is in the running for the big chair. Blade II and Hellboy weren't bad, but I'm holding out hope that Peter Jackson just takes the helm of Bungie's Halo flick. More »
