On the one hand, this could be terrible (Halo 3 wasn't exactly the pinnacle of storytellling in a video game), and could tarnish the Halo brand by going out of it's way.
On the other hand, they could have come up with some creative genius. Perhaps this time will be the charm, and they'll return with a great story that hasn't yet been told before. Just because it happened prior to Halo 3 doesn't mean it has to have a direct effect on it. Maybe they'll have a new villain and a new thrilling campaign.
I'm hoping for the second one, and at around $30 (please?), but I'm not making any bets yet.
Halo has plenty of memorable characters. Naked hologram, black marine commander, spunky higher-up girl, rebel alien, hungry plant monster, and others. I'm looking forward to the scared rookie, tough as nails veteran, computer nerd, psychopath, and maybe if we're lucky, woman out to prove herself to a military background family. The reason the characters are memorable, is because they are in EVERY MOVIE EVER.
well, the books (mainly halo: fall of reach) give a detailed account of the Chief on his road to becoming a SpartanII. so i dont think it would be possible. ODSTs are also supposed to have a reputation for being reckless/bulkheaded (Locklear from Halo: First Strike) so i was expecting fun, memorable characters. I can't wait :) :) :)
It would be cool if this game had a twist ending where you are actually playing Master Chief in his early days or something of the sort...
Halo followers correct me if I'm wrong, would that even be possible? Isn't MC genetically engineered to be an ultimate soldier? Could he have started out as an ODST?
Interesting ending for sure, and if that's what I found out at the end of a short game, I would be satisfied.
@Durdon: Nope, this takes place during Halo 2, when the Chief is off at Delta Halo. In fact, he started out as a child who was kidnapped and genetically altered, just like all the other Spartans.
@bigdaddygamebot: In fact they are known for great writing and storytelling in their games. Just not so much in the Halo games. Although I thought the first one had a good story that was told in an immersive way.
I buy it every month cause its the one mag that isnt trashy that covers multi-platform (EDGE) games. Basically the name was changed I imagine after the mag went to press. Oh Internet you make my gamesTM seem so dated already!
So since Bungie obviously still has interest in the Halo series are they going to continue Chiefs story? Any Halo crazies out there have any ideas as to what Bungie will do next?

Eh, either way, there's more story and personality in the Comic than in the whole Halo series put together.
That's just the magic of Bendis.

The first 3 books were the thing that really drew me in. The comics were just plain boring to me, but I just don't like that kind of stuff.
01/20/09
Utter garbage. They add nothing to the story whatsoever. They're merely there as filler.
The comics presented truth about life.

You must not have read the same books I did. Or millions of others.

5 million people thought that "The Secret" was worth reading.
Millions think that the Dune sequels are worth reading.
If a million people are morons, they're still morons.
01/21/09
And how many morons are Bendis fans?

By that logic it would be called Halo 2.5 ODST

Well said. This is an expansion to Halo 2 not 3.

Bungie teams with Ubi to bring you Master Chiefz and Haloz.
Well... secretly Im actually hoping they make a game to bridge the existant/non-existant 'gap' between Marathon and Halo. Someday.
