I remember the day I got my Gameboy. We stopped off at Toys R Us, I ran to a corner aisle (literally right at the back...or front) and picked up a large box with a green Gameboy inside :3
And yet Gunpei Yokoi never lived long enough to see his creation survive...sometimes I wonder what would have become of the gaming world (and Nintendo) had he not been taken from us.
Virtual Boy was not built to his specifications. He had wanted it in full-color, but at the time of it being manufactured, blue and green LEDs were extremely expensive compared to red LEDs. Yamauchi kinda rushed it to market to have something new out there while development on N64 was going on.
