The thing is the code was printed on a sticker on the outside of the game. Better still it can be used by anyone who owns the game.

To unlock the gun go to the main menu of the game and do the following:

(Hold RB) Down, Down, Up, Up, X, B, X, B, Y, Up, Up, Y

This is almost as good as that free Comcast map.

<![CDATA[ Arizona GameStop Robbed, Money and PS3 Stolen ]]> GameStopLogo.gifTwo armed men robbed a GameStop store in Arizona on Tuesday, taking with them some cash and a PS3. The two men had apparently been casing the store and then went in around closing time demanding money and then forcing the clerk get them a PS3 from storage before escaping on foot. I certainly don't condone robbery, but if you're going to go to all the trouble to hold up a game store and take the time to make the clerk go in the back and get you a PS3, wouldn't you probably load up on other stuff too? (Insert "Not enough titles for the PS3" joke here) If you're going to do the crime and risk jail time, at least make it worth it.

<![CDATA[ The Nerf Gun Lancer Mod ]]> NerfHaven forum poster Forsaken_angel24 has taken his love of All things Nerf and Gears of War to a new level. Using a Nerf rifle and a toy chainsaw from Home Depot, Forsaken_angel24 was able to cobble together a reasonable and realistic looking copy of Gears of War's most infamous weapon, the Lancer. If you are interested in making one of your own, he gives full instructions in a posting on the NerfHaven forums.

I didn't even know they made Nerf guns like the one he used as a base. And parents are worried about the Wii Zapper?

<![CDATA[ CliffyB Touches Everything With His Gun ]]>

Actual paper magazine Paste pinged us with a feature on Gears of War mastermind CliffyB. I hadn't seen the mag before (looks good), and apparently it's drafted in writers like our own often AWOL, but dear Alice Taylor and Joystiq's Kyle Orland. The CliffyB piece has some nice quotes, including this doozy:

We make games about guns because making games about talking is hard and not interesting yet. The basis of interaction is, 'what is the easiest way I can touch this environment?' And when you're using your gun, you're touching everything.

Deep. And yet, kinda pervy.

<![CDATA[ Biohazard/Resident Evil Airsoft Guns ]]>

Whilst following a lead on a Resident Evil Umbrella up for auction on eBay, I actually found something much more interesting. This is a series of four different Airsoft guns based on the weapons used in the Biohazard series or as it's known here in the states, Resident Evil!

Each gun shoots BB's and comes with a small supply which is great if you want to shoot someone's eye out or leave a BB lodged under the skin of one of your mates, but when the real zombie massacre comes, you'll be screwed.

<![CDATA[ Atari 2600 Collection, GUN Coming to PSP ]]>

Activision's getting pretty busy in the handheld department, the publisher just announced that they will be brining GUN Showdown, Over the Hedge: Hammy Goes Nuts!, Spider-Man: Battle for New York and Activision Hits Remixed to various handhelds.

"Today, handheld gaming is more popular than ever before and our fall line-up is reflective of gamers' unique tastes and interests," said Will Kassoy, senior vice president of global brand management. "Whether they want to experience new adventures with popular Super Hero and movie characters or relive their earliest memories of gaming, we're delivering top quality entertainment experiences."

The two I'm most excited about are PSP titles GUN and Activision Hits Remixed. I loved GUN on the 360 and was hoping the franchise would get some sequels. In the PSP version you get new missions and, the best part, wireless multiplayer and quick-play modes. Multiplayer gun-slinging, I can't wait.

The Actisivsion collection for the PSP includes 40 Atari 2600 titles. HOT! Some of the best include Pitfall, Kaboom!, Chopper COmmand and Stampede. The remix part of the game adds wireless multplayer modes to the classics plus a 80's soundtrack. I am SO there.

The jump has the full press release with Activision's full description on all four games.

Santa Monica, CA - August 21, 2006 - Activision, Inc. is delivering big-time fun to the palm of gamers' hands this fall with a diverse line-up of titles for the PSP® (PlayStation®Portable) system, Nintendo DS™ and Game Boy® Advance platforms. Players will experience the untamed West in GUN™ Showdown, gear up for high jinx and hilarity in Over the Hedge™: Hammy Goes Nuts!, swing into action in Marvel's Spider-Man™: Battle for New York, and relive classic console gaming in Activision® Hits Remixed, the ultimate compilation of Atari 2600 games.

In Gun Showdown for the PSP system, players shoot, knife and dynamite their way through a free-roaming action adventure set against the backdrop of the old West. As a gunslinger working both sides of the law, gamers will dole out vengeance and showdown against corrupt lawmen, a murderous preacher, a renegade army psychopath, and merciless outlaws. The handheld experience includes new wireless multiplayer and quick-play modes, PSP system exclusive missions, and gameplay features. Gun Showdown is rated "M" ("Mature" - Blood and Gore, Intense Violence, Sexual Themes, Strong Language and Use of Alcohol) by the ESRB.

Spider-Man: Battle for New York allows players to take on the role of their favorite Marvel Super Hero, Spider-Man, and one of his famed nemeses, Green Goblin, in an original storyline which builds upon their legendary comic book rivalry. For the first time in a handheld Spider-Man game, Nintendo DS and Game Boy Advance players can personalize their experiences by choosing what abilities and powers to upgrade and when, such as Spider-Man's web maneuvers or Green Goblin's fire attacks, as they progress through the game. Playing as both good and evil, gamers will experience levels packed with frenzied action, in-depth combat and a host of unique super moves as they embark on the ultimate quest to save New York City from almost certain disaster. Spider-Man: Battle for New York is rated "E10+" ("Everyone 10+" - Cartoon Violence) by the ESRB.

Over the Hedge™: Hammy Goes Nuts! is an all-new adventure based on the woodland creatures from DreamWorks Animation's hit film "Over the Hedge." Fan favorite Hammy the squirrel leads RJ the raccoon, Verne the turtle and all-new forest friends on another daring trip into the 'burbs. When Hammy's beloved cable TV goes out, his buddies have to scramble through the neighborhood to restore the signal—and Hammy's happiness. Over the Hedge: Hammy Goes Nuts! for the Nintendo DS is rated "E" ("Everyone" - Comic Mischief) by the ESRB, and the GBA version is rated "E" ("Everyone") by the ESRB. The PSP version is not yet rated.

Activision Hits Remixed lets PSP system gamers relive the dawn of home console gaming while on the go by delivering over 40 of the biggest Atari 2600 titles, such as Pitfall, Kaboom!, Chopper Command, Stampede, Keystone Kapers, to the PSP (PlayStation Portable) system. With the game's multi-player supported classics, players can choose whether they want to game together utilizing a "Game Share" feature that allows two friends to play together using only one copy of the game or take turns on one PSP system or play via the game's wireless functionality. Activision Hits Remixed also features a rockin' 80's themed soundtrack, modernized front-end graphics, classic game manuals which include tips and photographs, and a host of retro unlockables. The game has not yet been rated by the ESRB.

<![CDATA[ Activision Responds to Gun Boycott ]]> gunboy.jpg

Activision has responded to the Association for American Indian Development's call for a boycott of western shooter Gun.

GameDaily Biz reports that the company provided them with this prepared statement:

Activision does not condone or advocate any of the atrocities that occurred in the American West during the 1800s. GUN was designed to reflect the harshness of life on the American frontier at that time.

While GUN depicts scalping and killing, these actions are not directed exclusively toward any race or gender but are used against a variety of opponents, reflecting the realities of that time.

It was not Activision's intention to offend any race or ethnic group with GUN, and we apologize to any who might have been offended by the game's depiction of historical events which have been conveyed not only through video games but through films, television programming, books and other media.

I loved Gun, but this boycott and Activision's response raises an interesting question. Can games deal with serious subject? Some of the dialogue and cut scenes in the shooter were most definitely offensive, but if it's trying to make some sort of point or be historically accurate, is that OK?

It's always something, isn't it? Gamasutra has the scoop on the boycott of Activision because they published Gun. According to Boycottgun.com, American Indians are irked because of "very disturbing racist and genocidal elements toward Native Americans." If this boycott somehow catches fire, grab your copies of Gun ASAP so you can price gouge on eBay.

<![CDATA[ 360 Gun Misfires ]]> gun360.jpg

I played a bit of Gun on the 360 last night. Actually, I played a whole lot of Gun on the 360 last night. What a fun game, I just wish it supported some form of multiplayer.

The mechanics are easy enough to make anyone feel like a gunslinger, but not so easy to let on that you probably really suck at aiming and shooting, but that the game is making you look good.

I've loved all of the different types of shooting I've been able to do. I've shot guns from horseback, from boat, from stagecoach and that's about where it ends.

I'm not sure why, but I was well into a stage coach mode when the 360 just locked up. I thought, no biggie, and rebooted. Before relaunching the game, I went in and checked my achievements and saw that I had earned a bundle playing Gun.

Then I went into the game to start from my save point only to discover there was none. That's right the 360 had saved my achievements but not my game. Brilliant.

<![CDATA[ 360's Gun, Tony Hawk, Call of Duty in the House ]]> Got my 360 debug unit working again thanks to a friendly Microsoft tech-type. I also received copies of Tony Hawk's Wasteland, Gun and Call of Duty 2 for the 360, so expect more reviews. I also finally played Perfect Dark Zero. The levels I played were a blast, though I hate the lack of jump. I'm hoping to hop into some multiplay tonight.

I managed to weasel my way into three newspapers today talking about the 360: The Baltimore Sun, The Seattle Times and the Patriot News. Links are below in case you are interesting in checking them out.

<![CDATA[ Deal 'Em Sonny, Not on the Tombstone, Though ]]> St Paul Graveyard.jpg

This is a little creepy. Last Call Poker is having a live event Oct. 15 near San Francisco. I guess live is a relative term, since the event takes place in a graveyard. The game of choice? Tombstone Hold 'Em. This won't be the first game of Poker played in the cemetary, either. Subsequent events will take place across the country in the weeks upcoming (Washington D.C., Kansas City, Atlanta, NYC and L.A. are all on the itinerary). It's unclear what the winner of these events will receive or how that will tie into Activision's GUN, the game the ARG is connected with.

<![CDATA[ Xbox 360 Games Underwhelming? ]]> saintsrow.jpg

The Guardian s Greg Howson has posted his early impressions from a day spent playing Xbox 360 games in Amsterdam. Bottom line: slick games, but not a lot of substance. His piece does a good job of highlighting what I am convinced will become a real problem with this generation of consoles. You ve got to do more than amp up the graphics and sound to make hardcore, gaming lifers spend the sort of money these things are going to cost.

We don t just want an amp that goes to 11, we want some deep, interactive substantive games and you better deliver if you want our money.

Anyway, check out Greg s post if you want the quick and dirty on a handful of games he played including Condemned (gloomn-noir shooter), Gun (western shooter) and Saints Row (free-roaming shooter).
