It is necessary to download a file to update (read:replace) the DLC from GH4 to get it to work in 5 (a service they provide for free), so it makes sense that the new version files won't work in the older program, it can't read them. To continue to support GH4 they would need to distribute 2 versions of every file.
Hopefully they've got a robust enough file system to take it into the next season's games and not require another update.

Fuck Guitar Hero. Really. If not for name recognition, if the games were really judged on their quality and how friendly they are to the consumer, Rock Band wins in a landslide.

when Abbey Road DLC hits the RB store, everyone will swoon that any RB owner can can play those tracks, you wont need to own Beatles Edition. Then we will question what Activation is doing and wondering when they'll get the hint.

Actually, the Beatles tracks are tied to Rock Band Beatles, presumably for a combination of licensing deals and vocal harmonies. Kind of a pity really, but I'll make do.

This doesn't mean at a later date the game can't be patched to play nice with everything. But for now it's a standalone game (albeit one with DLC support...take note Activision)

I don't see myself buying another Guitar Hero anytime soon. MAYBE just the game if the price drops at some point.

Any Rock Band DLC you download is compatible with both Rock Band 1 and 2, even if you download it through the Rock Band 2 music store. It's going to be that way for every Rock Band game made from now on, too. They said that every piece of DLC from here on out will work with every other Rock Band title ever made in the future. Pretty nice, having access to all that DLC if you only ever wanted to buy the first one.

True. Since The Beatles is a standalone title that features distinct music not a part of the Rock Band universe, it will have separate DLC and not be compatible with other versions DLC. But would you really wanna watch the Beatles perform Queen Bitch by David Bowie?

Also i would like to know if there's gonna be a way to buy the license for downloading the worldtour disc songs from the PSN store, since neither the Rockband nor the Guitar Hero in-game stores work on mexican accounts.

Activision said that transfering the DLC was going to be free. The "nominal" -yet to be disclosed- fee is only for the on disc songs from World Tour and Smash Hits.
And hopefully the DLC tracks that won't work aren't the Hendrix ones. I haven't bought them, but i want them IF they are gonna be forward compatible!

I'm no businessman, so feel free to jump down my throat if I'm wrong, but wouldn't gimped DLC for WT not only increase DLC sales, but inspire more people to buy GH5 to get the most out of their DLC? Because as it is now, I for one would rather wait for Harmonix to license the tracks.
(Again, I have no clue whether I'm blowing smoke or not. I know nothing about business sense. This is just how it seems to my layman mind.)

They really need to announce this before I consider getting the game. Right now, I'm not sold on GH5; the tracklist isn't that great and I'd say that at least half of the songs I was most interested in have been released (Gorillaz, Tom Petty) or will be released (Queen, Nirvana) as Rock Band DLC. The import isn't necessarily make or break, but it will factor into whether or not I go for the game or just stick with Rock BAnd.

When you get down to the brass tacks, Rock Band may not be releasing games as often but I certainly dump enough of my cash into their wallets on DLC. So either way, if I get screwed, it's consensual.
