Band Sue Harmonix, RedOctane Over Guitar Hero Cover

Rock band The Romantics have filed suit against Harmonix, RedOctane and Wavegroup Sound for the cover version of "What I Like About You", included in Guitar Hero Encore: Rocks the 80s, reports Billboard. The suit claims that the re-recording of the group's 1980 hit is "virtually indistinguishable from the authentic version" and that consumers may become confused into believing the original recording was used. This would, I assume, lead to many disoriented gamers who might simply go mad from attempting to process the information and cause injury. More »

Frankenreview - Guitar Hero Encore: Rocks the 80s

The 80s has a special place in most of our hearts. As a decade, it captures Man's best and worst in music and fashion. Uncontrolled decadence, often in the form of very large hair, defines an era that was big on execution and low on taste. More »

Guitar Hero Contractually Obligates The 80s

After learning that the song list for Guitar Hero Encore: Rocks the 80s for the PlayStation 2 was arguably lacking in the "rock" department, I started to worry. When I realized that not a single bonus track would be included, I got a lil' antsy. Upon discovering that Activision was charging $50 American for the game, I got rightly pissed. With all that in mind, I thought picking up the game at Best Buy for a cheaper $40 with a $15 gift card bonus, I thought I'd still enjoy the next iteration in the Guitar Hero franchise. Playing through Hard difficulty today, I found myself regretting what will ultimately be a net $25 purchase. More »

Week in Games: Guitar Hero Rock The Eighties Edition

Looks like some good titles coming out this week, so here's a smattering of the best ones! Guitar Hero 80's is a sure fire sale for me, but unfortunately my game budget is rather small so that's all I'll be able to afford. there's actually several other games I'd like to pick up like Persona 3 and Alien Syndrome. I'm even slightly intrigued by Escape From Bug Island despite my earlier suspicions that it will suck. Anything on here look like it will end up in your console for days on end? More »

No Bonus Tracks For Guitar Hero 80s

The thirty officially announced tracks for Guitar Hero Encore: Rocks the 80s are going to have to make do as Red Octane has revealed to SlashGear that the game will not feature a set of bonus tracks, a precedent set in the first two Guitar Hero titles. Not shocking news, as it's a bit of a pickle going back in time two decades to find some unsigned bands with master track recordings. More »

Guitar Hero 80s Final Setlist, It's Official

The next Guitar Hero, supposedly the final under the development wing of Harmonix, is Guitar Hero Encore: Rocks the 80s, a PlayStation 2-only release due on July 24th. Activision today confirmed the retro edition's final setlist, much of which has already been confirmed. A few new tunes have popped up, but sadly (for Luke, mostly) no Bon Jovi. More »
