Itagaki's Opinion of GTAIV and Rockstar

Tecmo's Tomonobu Itagaki is a serious guy. Dead serious about things like his Ninja Gaiden games and things like anatomical physics. He's not messing around, folks! So when he looks at Grand Theft Auto IV, does he see serious business? Says Itagaki:

I think it [Grand Theft Auto IV] is made extremely well and is a fun game... People always use that as an example of violence in games. But I don't think there's anyone who takes their job as seriously as the guys who make that game. You only have to look at all the detail in there.

That's a pretty high compliment right there, Rockstar!

Microsoft On PS3 Getting Grand Theft Auto IV DLC

The Xbox 360 is getting exclusive Grand Theft Auto IV DLC. Sony's been playing coy, and there are rumors that the PS3 will see GTAIV DLC as well. How would that work with that US $50 million deal Microsoft and Rockstar struck? Is that even possible? Says Microsoft's Aaron Greenberg: More »

This Guy Is GTAIV's Roman, Rent Him

Just because you appear in a gajillion dollar making video game doesn't mean you get a gajillion dollars! Beer swinging Jason Zumwait was Roman Bellic in GTA IV and he hasn't made a gajillion dollars. No wonder he's offering to let folks "Rent Roman", tongue planting firmly in cheek. "For a nominal fee, I'll come over to your house," says Zumwait, "sitdown on your goddamn couch and play that video game with you."

Pirated NTSC GTA IV Leaked Online Early

48 hours? You're not giving yourselves enough credit. Less than a day after the PAL copy of the game was leaked, NTSC copies of Grand Theft Auto IV have begun popping up on torrent sites, courtesy of a group calling themselves 101. We're still unable to verify whether this is the real thing or not, but regardless, the files are already pushing 20,000 leechers. Shame. We're still waiting on Rockstar for comment.

Sam Houser: 360 "Needs To Sort Out" Storage

1UP recently interviewed Rockstar's Sam Houser. You should probably go read the whole thing, as it touches on some interesting stuff, but one thing's probably more interesting than the rest. It's where Houser heavily alludes to something we've been saying for a long time now: the 360 needs to sort out the issue of its non-compulsory HDD usage:
One of the problems with the 360, and it affects games like Grand Theft Auto if you think about how much content we put in the actual machine, is the fact that they don't have a significantly larger storage medium than the previous systems. It's a slightly bigger DVD disc.
And with a small disc, stuff's compressed, so it takes longer to load, so to cut down on-oh. You're not done. More »

Australia Also Gets A PS3/GTA IV Bundle

While still officially unannounced by either Sony or Take-Two, the Grand Theft Auto IV/PS3 hardware bundle that's destined for European shores will also be available in Australia. The news comes courtesy of major nationwide retailer Harvey Norman, who have the bundle priced at AUD$748. Not a bad deal considering a 40GB PS3 and GTAIV purchased separately would set you back AUD$820.

How To: Block Our GTA IV Content

Yesterday I posted a story about a certain comedian getting featured in GTA IV. And while it was technically public knowledge, a few of you considered it a spoiler. Given that we're probably going to see a lot of these little GTA IV nuggets trickle in until its launch April 29th, it's best that you simply block our GTA IV stories if you don't want to read them. Here's the code for that:
kotaku.com/tag/not:gta-iv
That code will give you Kotaku without the GTA IV. And just so you know, you could swap that "gta-iv" in the URL for anything you don't want to read about. That goes for companies, consoles and games. For what it's worth, I sincerely apologize to anyone who felt we spoiled part of the game. And for those who'd prefer not to block our content, we'll still continue to mark things that we deem spoilers as just that. More »

To Microsoft, GTA IV's As Big As Halo 3

Anyone remember Halo 3? You may have heard about it last year. There was a commercial or two, aimed at promoting the product and raising the public's general awareness of it. Oh, you did? Capital. Well, you know how much money Microsoft must have spent promoting the thing? That's how much Microsoft Europe are spending on promoting Grand Theft Auto IV. Considering it's a third-party title that's also going to be available in a hardware bundle for their console rival, that's a roll of the financial dice that must have taken some big brass balls to throw down on. Watch the clip above, imagine you're an average GTA fan who's yet to buy into the current generation of consoles, and see if you think it'll be worth it

British Office Star Ricky Gervais Appears In GTA IV

You should know Ricky Gervais from the original Office or the series Extras. If you don't please do some googling and continue the article. No, seriously. We'll wait. Go look the guy up or you're wasting everyone's time.

....

Thanks. ShortList magazine has revealed that Ricky Gervais performs a three-minute stand-up routine in a GTA IV comedy club. The track wasn't just audio recorded but motion captured for 100% authenticity. Well...almost 100%. Gervais admits: "...I look slightly tougher." But other than that small quibble, it's Gervais. Looking deadly.

Thanks Chris!

Grand Theft Auto IV DLC To Bring Whole Cities?

According to CVG's recent GTA IV Collector's Edition magazine, the Xbox 360's downloadable content could be even bigger than anyone has made it out to be. It could be a whole new city.
Of course, to call games as vastly ambitious as Vice City or San Andreas mere 'expansion packs' seems childish, but nevertheless, the downloadable content (DLC) coming for the Xbox 360 version of IV has repositioned those games in just this way. DLC so far has meant the odd new car, jumper of bit of horse armour...

Aus/NZ GTAIV Cut Due To "Weapon Being Inserted Into A Private Area"

Rockstar Australia have, against the wishes of just about everyone who's got the game pre-ordered locally, refused to disclose just what it was that's been cut from the local version of Grand Theft Auto IV. No matter. Publishers Take-Two may have been a little more forthcoming, with a call to the company's Australian customer service line apparently yielding the following response. More »

Variety: GTAIV Launch Bigger Than Halo 3 (And Then Some)

Variety are reporting that, according to "sources close to publisher Take-Two" (ie most likely the guys in charge of selling the game to retailers), Grand Theft Auto IV is poised to take in around $400 million during its first week on sale. Yowzers. To put that in perspective, Halo 3's launch took in a paltry $300 million. To put it in further perspective, Spiderman 3 and the third Pirates movie hold the record for the two biggest worldwide opening weekends in cinema history, at $380 and $340 million respectively. So, yes, we're talking batshit crazy numbers here. They're also reporting that, based on discussions with retailers, the 360 version is easily outselling the PS3 one, though with both a higher install base and the promise of DLC, that's not the biggest shock in world news today.

The GTA IV Compendium & FAQ

As we approach the launch of Grand Theft Auto IV, we've learned more and more about the game, but the incremental updates have made it tougher and tougher to piece the whole thing together. So we've created a GTA IV compendium to get you up to speed on the game before its release. Because the last thing you want to be caught saying to the cashier is, "Wait, so this game has multiplayer??" More »

Rockstar Flash Fun, Just Like GTAIV, But Not At All

What will we do when GTAIV actually comes out? Play it for 1,000+ hours? How lame. We'd much rather waste our time on zany flash ads that only take 1 minute or 2 a pop. For instance, if you're as cool as us, you'll have an awkward conversation with a representative from Goldberg, Ligner & Shyster...which we're beginning to suspect may be more of an escort service than a law firm, but no harm, no foul.

Hit the jump for 3 quasi-games that will bring a few minutes of fun to a hardcore GTA fan. Oh, and the spastic theme music is coming from the third box. Click "beverage menu" to start and things get a lot quieter.

GTA IV Playboy X, Liberty City Gun Club Videos

As we head inevitably toward the launch of Grand Theft Auto IV, Rockstar's information tap seems to have been opened wide. Today, along with the new multiplayer modes, the developers have dropped these two, short, but still funny videos. They seem to be showing off a bit of Playboy X's character and, on the jump, the gunplay and weapons of GTA IV.
