It one thing I've always enjoyed about the GTA series is that they get their characters RIGHT. Nothing ever feels forced or corny, just accurate. I've been playing the DLC and I'm glad to say they haven't lost their touch.
The control is just as shitty as ever though and the save system sucks balls. They really need to fix that shit.
too bad it's supeeer buggy. My version of johnny is unable to punch, kick, or special punch... so yea being a biker and being unable to brawl is pretty un-OK
@Coochie: I did experience one bug. I walked up to the counter at Burger Shot and Johnny froze solid. I could check my map and everything, but couldn't move Johnny. All I wanted was a burger!
Well worth every point it was given, IMO. It's almost long enough and different enough to be considered a sequel of sorts (despite being in the same city), and for twenty bucks and a download the size of the average demo, that's very impressive.
One complaint, though: Johnny's voice acting: Not so great.
@ShaggE: Agreed. I do love the gang aspects though, like how riding around in formation gives you health benefits, and how you can call your brothers for backup and guns. It's all about the brotherhood!
With that 50 million gift from Microsoft, and going off the idea that Rockstar gets 10$ per sale of The Lost and Damned, you would need at least 5 million ppl with GTA4 on PS3, all of which would buy the DLC.
But I can't seem to find those numbers. It might be that Rockstar ends up losing money in the long run, depending.
I think it sold a little better on PS3 when it first came out, but used sales of the 360 version are up because of this DLC. Well, used and some new, I'm sure.
@Lllusionx: In 2008, the Xbox 360 version sold in excess of 3.29 million, while the PlayStation 3 version sold in excess of 1.89 million for a combined 5.18 million copies in 2008 in the US.
Good sales data for the rest of the world is hard to come by, but it's sold roughly 10 million copies. No idea how the platforms split, but I imagine the ratio is similar to the user base ratio, ie: more copies sold on the 360, because more people own a 360.
@Laho: The DLC is pure profit, for both MS and Rockstar. The $50 million was a loan. Also keep in mind that the game made $400 million in it's first week.
@Snacky_Smores: Yes, they could have. Unfortunately, the DLC was financed by Microsoft, so that's not possible.
None of these reviews seem to touch on whether or not the missions are the same shtick again... like GTA4 was. I just finished GTA4 for a second, more thorough time a month ago and I'm honestly not looking forward to playing more of the same, uninteresting, repetitive missions again and again.
"For the first-half of this expansion, you do ordinary errands: go here, deliver that, and steal this. Missions start to feel repetitive and lack innovation; an issue the series has struggled with throughout its history. Nine times out of ten they end in a familiar firefight or car chase."
That isn't even from the whole review; that's from the blurb that Kotaku chose to put on here.
PS3 owners really have to stop whining. THIS is business. If Sony was in a position to fork over 50mil for DLC they may have done the same thing. Blame Sony's CEOs who decided it wasn't worth the investment.
anyway i have a ps3, wish i could get the DLC but i can't... i'm mildly confident the DLC will come to PS3 eventually, if not delayed, then we will future packs.. "exclusive" doesn't mean much these days, only means delayed release on other consoles
Sony had GTA San Andreas exclusive to PS2 when it came out, that only lasted several months... so same may happen here, maybe not *shrug* they'd be foolish not to try and cash in with DLC for PS3 owners too, i'd be willing to buy it
Just shipped my 360 off on monday, was getting graphics errors that looked like the GPU going out and figured I'd jump the gun. Very sad about not being able to play this right now.
@litrock: every now and then when i play in gta iv the city wont load up and i'll be driving on grey, then on left 4 dead (this happen last night) some of scenery wasn't displaying right, shit im hoping i dont get anything but i might send it in if this keeps up.
@Milkzhakes: It wasn't a load error, it was green pixels and discolorations and lines and crap all over the screen. It was very, very obvious that something was WRONG.
@litrock: Funny, the same thing just happened to my Xbox. My screen started to go green, then red, then green again. Everything started to turn bright fluorescent green. Very weird. So yeah, I'm sending mine in, too.
I just DL'd it last night. I loved GTA4 and I trust these fuckers for a good time. The only thing I don't like is the film grain they put on everything. It's a little like Mass Effect's grain. I'm going to check if I can turn it off when I get home.
@f33l: I tried turning off the noise filter, did not notice right away that it made much difference.
I can't remember though from the original, it seems like all the color is kind of washed out on mine. Almost like a black and white kind of a view, except all kind of a "streetlight yellow" / amber kind of tint to everything.

Irony at its finest.
You are whining to stop whining which incidentally has not been in these comments yet.
Does saying that make you feel better?
If it does, then I really feel for you man.

I couldn't give a flying toe about anything GTA related. Btw, whining about whining makes you look bad.
