And really, when you think about it, when he plays Deadpool he'll be covered in the scars and the mask, so he'll barely be recognizable outside of his voice.

I'm not a huge fan, but I don't remember Deadpool having laser eyes in the comics, or turning into Baraka.

Secondly, as a fan of the genre (comics) all I can say is, "Damn".
Sooner or later someone in the gaming or movie industry is going to have to realize that making games based on virtually invincible characters make for really crappy games.
You let the character be invincible, then there is no point to the game. You make the character vulnerable, it comes off contrived. (Honestly, are street thugs gonna be able to land a punch on Green Lantern?)
I don't even wanna see a Green Lantern movie anymore. They're just trying to lay the ground work for a JLA movie anyway.

You know, I know the game had it's problems, but I always thought Superman Returns at least had a good idea to "solve" that problem of what to do about an invincible superhero - namely, forgot about giving Superman an unrealistic health meter, but instead make the health of the city what you have to worry about - which not only makes some sense, but also sort of replicates the idea of what a superhero is supposed to do.
Not sure that it would apply quite the same way to a GL game, but I do hope other superhero game devs at least look at that.

Let's hope that Hal doesn't have to fight off any killer tornadoes.

(Incidentally and ironically GL's hometown getting completely annihilated is one of the key plot points in the comics.)

He isn't an alien hes Human. The lanterns are a intergalactic police force all of whom are equiped with the rings that channel their willpower and thoughts into whatever they can imagine. Hal Jordan was just a test pilot, than an alien lantern crashes on earth, dies, and the ring is passed to Jordan because hes the "bravest man on earth" But there are lots of green lanterns of all differant species from across the "Multiverse"
To say hes a slightly differant version of superman is just way way way off. They only thing they have in common is basically lame weaknesses. I mean come on the color Yellow???
07/13/09
Which always struck me as ironic because the color green is a combination of blue and yellow.
Martin Nodell is amongst the greats but the concept of "yellow" as a weakness just seemed like a bad idea.
(Although, looking back at it after making a living writing this and that and knowing that Hal's greatest strength was his "fearlessness" maybe "yellow" was a metaphor. Maybe yellow indicated fear, as in, "yellow bellied coward". Who knows?)

To be fair, yellow as a weakness was at least an improvement on "wood" as a weakness (which was what the Golden Age Green Lantern had to deal with).
You're probably right about why yellow in particular was chosen, but from what I've read, the main point really was because they had to have some sort of weakness to deal with as a sort of easy way to have some sort of challenge for a character.
One of the nicest things about the current GL era is that they've at least sort of moved past that, and realized that there's plenty of potential in GL stories based on the overall setting.

[T]he "yellow impurity" was in fact caused by a yellow energy being, named Parallax, made of pure fear imprisoned in the Central Power Battery. Following the defeat of this creature, an experienced wielder of a power ring can, with effort, overcome the yellow weakness by recognizing the fear behind it, and facing that fear.
@Life Between Naps: The "yellow as a metaphor" is pretty much the case, at least in current continuity.
Either way, it could be worse. In the Golden Age, the ring didn't work on wood.

All the power in the world, except against something extremely common. That is real vulnerability, real danger.
That's how they did things in the Golden Age, man!

If you're going to see it, either go see a cheap show or wait until DVD to rent it.
@TalKeaton: Deadpool was in Wolverine, and what we saw at the beginning of the movie was Deadpool, sans mask.
Let's just pretend the end of the movie didn't happen.
As for the Deadpool movie, there were discussions but it hasn't begun production. Now, it's either going to be pushed back or just won't happen at all.

Waiting for the rental. Thanks for the heads up.
