Jane Jensen's right up there in the top tier of great game writers. Very few are able to manage an overarching plot as well as she does, with a mystery that gets revealed piece by piece. Gray Matter can't come soon enough.
I really loved the adventure game genre and was heart broken when it died. It's great to see the writer behind gems like the Gabriel Knight series, Police Quest III and King's Quest 7 back in action.
I'd also like to see something from Roberta Williams again.
@resvrgam: Agreed. It's not a dead genre, but it's golden years are LONG gone. The 90s was such an amazing time for PC games. Not just adventure games, either.
I also agree about Roberta Williams. A new Phantasmagoria would make me shit bricks.
@resvrgam: *hoists a glass* Hear, hear. I always feel such a kinship with the rare soul who crops up familiar with and fond of the adventure games of the 80s/90s. The return of her and of Talin to the current sphere of PC gaming would make my day...but, with the rare exceptions of this Jensen person (whose story I'm about to read, but I caught Roberta Williams in a misclicked scroll and had to reply) and, say, Ragnar Tournquist, the power of story, as rendered via adventure game, seems a tough thing to market these days. It's sad. But, I suppose, somewhat inevitable, given the trend in other entertainment media.
