does anyone know if they ever published the max payne graphic novel cutscenes into a compendium? i really wish that they'd sell that alongside the game. hell, i may even have to take screenshots of the in-game sequences, and print them into a coherent graphic novel. those games featured some of the grittiest and sharp character development between both videogame and comic universes.
1. Actually I'm pretty sure IT/U-somerandomnumber had a humanoid face and claws like that.
2. She's blonde with parted hair, looks like Ashley to me. If there were blondes in DS, I didnt notice them since I tend to skip story sequences.
Are you talking about the part where youre on one side of a big gap and she's on the other typing stuff into a console and you have to shoot the creeps on both sides?
It's good to see games getting more representation in the mainstream pop culture, rather than sorta being relegated off to the side while film, TV, and radio get the bulk of the attention. It's still got a ways to go, but we've got a good start.
I just wish there was more focus on actually creative gaming instead of mass-produced mass-marketed Western games with no individual identity or unique traits. Sometimes it seems like the only shit that gets any attention is big-budget shooters.
@Archaotic: Games are like the Movie industry. Most people won't care if a game is "special" unless 50,000 people scream it into their ears. I could make a house from the "innovative" or "blockbuster" games that people on websites like this told me about that I just plain didn't like.
The trick is to ignore a recommendation, and pay attention to a discussion.
You'll find plenty of people who will go "GET X GAME ITS AWESOME", but the ones that should catch your eye are not the ones telling you to get the game, but the ones trying to have a point by point actual discussion about it.
At least, thats how it works for me. If people are willing to discuss the game on a level beyond skin deep (which doesn't happen often), there may be something there worth paying attention to.
@Komrade Kayce - Hero of Soviet Kotaku: If we bought every game people told us to "GET X GAME ITS AWESOME" we'd be knee deep in so many games we wouldn't finish for years. Your point is well taken especially when we consider that time and money are not often in excess with people who buy a lot of games.
We (people who are frugal with their game purchasing) have to pay special attention to what people think and say about games specifically, not just what they think about playing games.
what ever happened to the 100 bullets videogame? could they do justice to the subject material in such a medium? i'm excited to see such a strong crossover with the god of war material.
i'm wondering if these graphic novels that precede the game release do justice to the franchise. i remember the resistance 2 launch that came with a comic book that undeniably felt like an afterthought to the videogame. at the same time, i do think that comic tie-ins raise the general level of excitement and extend the narrative on the game. i'd like to think that my anticipation (and letdown) of mirror's edge and even assassin's creed began with a graphic novel that arrived before the game.
Making 'graphic novel' adaptations of your videogame IP does NOT constitute innovation.
Why on earth is everyone doing this now? How about game developers worry a little more about making their game stories interesting before recycling their already recycled schlock in a kitschy graphic novel.
@voth: The industry's taken to calling comic books "graphic novels" because people treat comics as something akin to children's books, which they most definitely aren't.
@InconspicuouslyConspicuous: I don't think the typo is off topic at all. Come on Kotaku, I know these things are getting thrown at us fast (and is appreciated) but let's get some proofreading going.
@InconspicuouslyConspicuous: Did you ever think that maybe he was simply debating whether to write an epic prequel on the life of Prince or writing something about the Persian Empire? No? Yeah....
However, just imagine the epic epicness that would be a cover illustration of Prince as drawn by Todd McFarlane. 'Twould 'splode the mind.
By the way, for those who didn't notice, the title of the article reads "... Prince OR Persia..." notice the "oR" not "oF"
I'd love to see how the narrative is like for the movie before I can see how "ridiculously qualified" he is.
I am somewhat optimistic since I didn't get the horrible vibe as to when I saw the Chun-Li trailer. Yet again who didn't feel a horrible vibe when seeing the SF Chun-Li trailer :/

@Outkastprince: Transformers had a bottomless well of 80's nostalgia to fuel it that Prince of Persia lacks. It would be a hit regardless of quality. The first movie stunk, the sequel stunk harder, and it's still raking in millions.
@Outkastprince: Peter Cullen? Yeah, old time fans complain about the "Bayformers," but it still has enough connections to the past for fans to see it again and again, at least going from Internet reviews and sales.
Thundercats has more or less been a Broadway staple for eons now. Go check it out. :p
@Outkastprince: Agreed. So far, this is how I view them (And I have seen most of these movies):
Micheal Bay's Transformers -- Robots with cliche lines (world peace and other garbage filler lines), and some chick that looks like she'd be on a Dorito commerical at halftime.
G.I. Joe: Prettyboys in spandex armor.
Star Trek: McDonald's iShip : The Next Generation
Now, don't get me wrong, I liked Star Trek, and I enjoyed droning (read: not going there for a real plotline) with the TF movies, but there is no way on God's Green Earth that anyone will convince me that those are G.I. Joes, Transformers, Star Trek characters; anymore than Mark Gordon would convince me that five ragtag survivors of an alien attack in New York would be Voltron's Lion Force!
It kinda makes me wish that they'd add "knockoff" to the taglines.
Way to kill childhood memories, Hollywood. And you wonder why people say you no longer have original ideas...

@Kobun:
Peter Cullen maybe... But it's hardly enough anymore.
For one, the voice of Megatron (Gary Chalk) is still around, yet you don't hear his voice. Sure, Starcream/Cobra Commander (The Late Chris Latta) isn't around for requests anymore, but Cullen performing the duties of Optimus, and not hearing Chalk is nothing short of disappointing; even if the IMAX candy were enough for me to drone for an hour and a half.

I am always a sucker for the Wolfenstein franchise. The Veil powers and Mafia-esque progression system seems like a welcoming edition in the next month's release. Day 1 for sure!.

I am now sad.
Then again she wasnt with you during that part of the game.
07/27/09
How could you think that? Did you not play Dead Space at all?
1. That doesn't look like a Resident Evil monster
2. That chick isn't screaming save me leon, so its obviously not Ashley
07/27/09
07/27/09
I did, for a good 3 playthroughs.
1. Actually I'm pretty sure IT/U-somerandomnumber had a humanoid face and claws like that.
2. She's blonde with parted hair, looks like Ashley to me. If there were blondes in DS, I didnt notice them since I tend to skip story sequences.
It's all in the game play, brah.
07/27/09
Resi 4 had the big guys you had to equip the thermal scope to shoot the heart out of that *kind of* looked like that.
As for the 'missing the blondes' in DS... really? Thats kind of Issacs whole motivation. Really?
07/27/09
The Iron Maidens looked nothing like that. If anything, they looked like Dr Manhattan/SF4 Seth. They were humanoid but they didnt have any claws IIRC.
Im guessing Issac is the main character, but like I said I didnt pay attention to the story.
So I wouldnt know about the motivation.
07/27/09
What? Stop talking, right now. Its even part of the gameplay where you have to deal with THAT SPECIFIC BLONDE and keep her alive.
Then she TRAPS YOU IN A ROOM AND HELPS YOU ACTIVATE A TRACTOR BEAM.
Just be quiet now, stupid.
07/27/09
Are you talking about the part where youre on one side of a big gap and she's on the other typing stuff into a console and you have to shoot the creeps on both sides?
I remember that much.
