The game itself is not time consuming nor demanding. However, the players are and most guilds simply ask for unrealistic hours of devotion to the game for raids, etc. You can play about 2-3 hours a day or a little less and still get things done. In that time frame you can run an instance once or twice depending on how fast your group goes through them.
@Jakelshark: WoW is only like a job if you aren't doing what you enjoy, and/or aren't playing with the right people. I think of a lot people don't have the self-control to be able to say "I'm not enjoying this, so I'm not going to do it anymore" so they get stuck playing in guilds with people who want to raid for several hours every night. WoW is a big enough game that there are a lot of things you can devote your playtime to, and you shouldn't feel obligated to do things you don't like to do.
I know WoW players that hate playing WoW but cant stop because of their addiction. I know WoW players that hurt their relationships with their significant others and friends because of the long time demands of being in guilds and such.
I applaud you if you are able to play with people who are casual enough to enjoy it but proffesional enough to still run an instant. From the people I know who play, Guilds are just a source of drama, politics, and a major time committment. But they are a neccessary evil to do most end game content, because getting a large raid group together of random and competent players is a huge ordeal.
@Jakelshark: Guilds can be very good, it all depends on the people you roll with I guess. Myself, I've been playing MMO games with the same group of people for 5 years now. I don't know any of them IRL, we're just a drama free guild that likes to play games together.
So how do we keep it drama free? Easy. We recruit everyone that wants to try and join. We weed out bad seeds and people that don't fit in by hazing the fuck out of them.
Women get the worst of the hazing, which is done with barrages of verbal abuse. This is because women are most often the primary source of guild drama. if they can take it and fit in, fine. But none last very long. A few leave literally crying.
I don't know what's worse...the fact that this person is actually willing to pay someone to help them reach a certain status level in an MMO or the fact that I now wish I played WoW so I could take him up on his offer...
I just sent this over to a mate who may be able to fill in most of this.
We'll see how it goes.
If folks are willing to pay, you may as well take advantage of it.
And slap on the wrist to Owen for cheating at D&D of all things.

@Fallible.: "The form "an" is always prescribed before words beginning with a silent h, such as "honorable", "heir", "hour", and, in American English, "herb"." [en.wikipedia.org]
@Boolean: While yes, English does has a lot of crazy rules and inconsistencies, that rule actually makes a lot of sense because it goes by the initial sound (an "o" in honorable) not the letter. One uses "a" before a consonant sound and "an" before a vowel sound. It's all about ease of pronunciation. Having a consonant sound between two vowel sounds is much easier to say and distinguish than two vowel sounds.
who said he was able to afford it...he is willing to spend it
I can go out and buy a super awesome sports car to pick up chicks, doesnt mean I can afford it. Just like how he is going out to spend a lot of money to impress nerds with his epenis, doesnt mean he can afford it.
why are you defending an obvious act of poor money management on something so frivolous... even if he isnt some basement dweller loser, he is still a loser in the same sense that a rich person throws money around for no good reason is a loser
@Jakelshark: That doesn't make him a loser if he can afford it and he's rich. You're just being a judgmental idiot, probably because you can't afford to spend that kind of money on frivolous things. Well guess what, some people can. That doesn't make them losers. That means they're more successful than you. They're WINNERS.
if people who have money to waste are winners then you just called Paris Hilton a winner
case closed
and bear in mind nearly every multi-millionaire in the US inherited it, they didnt earn it...that does not make them more successful than me....that makes them lucky
Also in an ironic twist you were being a judgmental idiot by assuming Im poor and couldnt afford it. Sure you can look at that car example...but that was an example, not me talking about my net worth
anyone who has several grand to waste on their epenis is a loser, and a selfish one at that

You've got to hand it to WoW - a game with the ability to make someone want to spend THAT much for an Arena rating... truly gobsmacking.
