Didn't think there was much of a difference until I clicked and saw the full resolution pictures... then I saw there was a difference. Not substantial but still a good difference. Then again, looking at these screens made me realize how awesome God of War's graphics were for their time. #godofwarcollection

I'm going to get flack for this irregardless of the fact I am NOT its biggest supporter, but what happened to the Kotaku FISH? These squid/aliens on certain places just make me think naughties = cthulu. I much prefer the fish.... or nothing at all. :) #godofwarcollection

I played both on my 60gb last year, preorder the collection just to replay it in a non-blurry fashion. The improvement looks amazing, anyone who doesn't notice a difference needs to get their eyes checked.

@Kanik: On the big versions you are right, the difference is pretty obvious. On the PS3, the simple geometry is a bit more obvious, and the textures are blocky instead of fuzzy. Not an improvement I care about, but if you prefer it that's fine too. #godofwarcollection

Not a big difference IMO. Not like the WOW factor playing PSX games on PC where you see extra details and sharper + cleaner images.

It's a good thing that God of War is a fun game regardless, as long it's not worse than the original then I have no beef.

It better not have any slow downs what so ever for being underpowered.

@Neko_Tech: I always thought PS1 games looked worse on PC... Maybe i just don't use the right plugins? I've played FFT and Chrono Cross and FF8, and they all looked worse on PC than playing on the PS3 / PS2 #godofwarcollection

@killaW0lf04: Yes I have and it's not that big of a change.

@bobtheduck in Korea: It's probably your plug in (video). Some games like FFT/Chrono Cross/FF8 actually do look somewhat bad no matter what plug in you have but on most games if they didn't do a special rendering trick it looks better (like Bleem for the Dreamcast). Even if the game has some gfx glitches if you see side by side comparison, the PC emulator does indeed look better.

If you own Xenogears play it on any PS system even with smoothing on. Then try it on epsxe emulator and you'll see night and day difference more so than what they did with the remastering of GoW for PS3. #godofwarcollection

@Syxx: I know all about it. I was using my analogy of the improvements (as in noticeable) in visual quality.

PCSX2 is still improving, it's still not viable for full use yet unlike the ePSX (PSOne) emu. #godofwarcollection

@Neko_Tech: well you'll never be able to have a huge improvement in graphics since huge changes effectively means changing the game itself. What they could do (and in fact have done) is put higher resolution textures on objects, increase anti-aliasing and increase the resolution. Im not saying that i dont agree with you, im saying that you cant really expect much more than what they've just done.... it effectively a ps2 game in the end. #godofwarcollection

I thought it was just my TV setup but these screens have confirmed something I also saw with the Bayonetta comparison shots. The PS3 apparently cannot display darkness. Everything seems to be in the mid to high range, but nothing is ever close to black. #godofwarcollection

@reverend_green: Keep in mind this is an upscaled PS2 game, and Bayonetta is one of the worst PS3 ports.

You might want to take a look at the console's best games before you make strong statements like "PS3 can't do this or that." #godofwarcollection

at least when Capcom re-releases the RE games on the Wii, I have the option of just buying the cheaper/identical Gamecube version instead. #godofwarcollection

Games tend to be a tad blurrier and blacks are crushed (probably why the PS2 screens look so dark here). On a setup, audio takes a dip too with poor stereo seperation.

PS1 games run better though. #godofwarcollection

@SG79: As some who owns both a PS2 and BC PS3, and has tried, for shits and giggles, both consoles plugged into the TV with component, the upscaled games on the PS3 win for me. There are ups and downs to both but PS2 games on the PS3 tend to look like less of a glittery, jittery aliased mess regardless of what you do with smoothing (which is absolutely a welcome option).

Saying the PS3 emulation sucks is ludicrous. Playing PS2 games on an actual PS2 plugged into an HDTV can yield almost tragic results (as demonstrated by the collective cry of horror from everyone in my living room when switching from the PS3 to the PS2 during the aforementioned test).

*Ed- This, incidentally (as sick as I am of the "bring-back-BC" whinging that happens all the time when people discuss the PS3), is probably the best argument I can think of to explain why having a PS2 and PS3 plugged into your TV just doesn't pass muster- and why BC compatible PS3s will always be preferable to having two separate consoles, even if it costs more.

I have a pet peeve with switching aspect ratios, and the audio output is really bad in comparison to the original hardware.

But wasn't there a high rez version of the game on the actual Ps2 same disk, but unlocked?
I remember seing video of dude fighting giant golden statue in a side by side comparison of low and high rez.

can anybody back this up?

having never played either, im excited to get my grubby mits on this game when it drops. the GoW3 demo is the cherry on top.

ive only heard awesome things about this franchise, so im looking forward to locking my self for a weekend and just throwing myself into these games, and hopefully come out with a couple of trophies... and my mind blown away :) #godofwarcollection

My HDTV made GOW 1 & 2 look muddy. Kratos for example looked blotchy. I was running the PS2 with component cables at the time and GOW2 in progressive scan 480p. It still looked crummy.

I welcome these remastered editions. It's a nice way to preserve these classic games for modern TVs. If anything for prosperity sake. #godofwarcollection

@Orionsaint: "remastered" is kind of the wrong word to use.
"upscaled" is more accurate.
"remastered" refers to modifying the source to improve the final product.
All they've done here really is made the display resolution HD and added Trophies, all the textures, models and maps are the same as the PS2 games. #godofwarcollection
