Growing Up With Fallout 3

WARNING: The following article contains some spoilers.

When I saw Fallout 3 at last year's E3 I thought it looked cool but not being one of the cult of Fallout, I viewed it with the same sort of interest that I do most games I know nothing about: Curious, but not what I would call overly excited. All this changed however, this past Tuesday when I headed downtown to check out the new build of the game that Bethesda was showing off.

From a training system tied to a child's development to the fifties-meets-Steampunk look of weapons, Fallout 3 may not have a solid date yet, but after seeing this build, I can honestly say I am well and truly smitten.

Arcade Flyer Art Saturday: Ghouls 'N Ghosts

Three years after their hit with Ghosts 'N Goblins, Capcom continued the adventures of Arthur and his heart boxer shorts with Ghouls 'N Ghosts. The gameplay was essentially the same as Ghosts 'N Goblins with a few additional moves such as the ability to shoot weapons straight into the air and being able to shoot while jumping. This game also introduced Arthur's special gold armor. After the arcade, the game was ported to a wide variety of systems including Sega Master System, Sega Mega-Drive, Sega Saturn, PS1, Sharp X68000, Supergrafx and the Virtual Console on the Wii. Much like it's predecessor, Ghouls 'N Ghosts is considered to one of the most punishingly difficult games of the time. More »

Fire Breathing Super Contra Ghosts

As of this writing I've not seen hide nor hair of Nintendo's weekly Virtual Console update press release, so I got up off my ass, walked into the living room and then got back on my ass to see for myself what had been updated, and it isn't a bad selection this week. Kicking it off we have Breath of Fire II for the Super Nintendo (800 points), one of my favorite games from the SNES era of RPGs. I'd daresay a true classic. Next we have Ghouls 'n Ghosts for the Genesis (800 points), the sequel to Ghosts 'n Goblins an prequel to Super Ghouls 'n Ghosts. Finally we have Super C for the NES (500 points). The sequel to Contra, Super C sees Mad Dog and Scorpion fighting against their former comrades in arms, now possessed by aliens and transformed into horrifying creatures by...you know what? You run, you shoot stuff. It's Contra, before it got kinda crappy. Love on it. There you have it - three excellent titles and not one crappy TurboGrafx 16 title. The PR guys must have been so shocked they forgot to send the release!

GamePro TV Episode Unearthed, Embarrasses Entire Internet

Gentlemen, this is your punishment for cramming my Kotaku box with approximately 600 comment requests in the past half-day, outstripping even the pleadings from exotic royalty, the promises of prodigious semenal output, and the offers for very reasonably-priced t-shirt manufacture. More »

The Return of Heroic Boxers: Ghouls n' Ghosts Trailer

GameBrink is hosting a very sweet little live-action Japanese trailer for the new PSP Ghouls n' Ghosts game, and I tried to pull it here but my Flash ninja skills are just not leet enough. You will have to click, for which I apologize profusely. More »
