Midway's New Game Looks 'As Good If Not Better' Than Gears 2
Midway's Wheelman creative director Simon Woodroffe offered up some details about the company's future lineup of games yesterday.
In an interview with Videogamer.com, Woodroffe cites two titles, both of which aren't slated for release until sometime in 2010, and says the publisher now has a large enough pool of developers to draw upon and share knowledge with in order to finally deliver high-end experiences.
More »"I just saw a demo of a new Midway game that's in development. I can't tell you too much about it, but they've been on it for three months and it looks as good if not better than Gears 2," said Woodroffe. "This is only possible because of the sharing of technology."

Marcus Fenix Has The Biggest Scowl In NYC
Bit of Gears 2 marketing going down (or up) in New York City this weekend. Namely, some building-sized Gears of War 2 murals. Yup. Murals. Not posters, not prints, they're painted.
There are three in total. One on Broome & Crosby, one on the corner of Spring Crosby and the third - and largest, at 76 feet - on Delancey and Allen. So cheer up, Marcus! If you can make it here, you can make it anywhere.

Gears Of War 2: Patched
Having matchmaking issues with Gears of 2? Epic's got your back. A patch has been released that (should) fix the agonising wait times encountered during matchmaking, as well as a few other bits and pieces.
Other tweaks include fixing the issue where people couldn't access their SP campaign if Live was down and improvements to Epic's stat-gathering process. If you don't already have the update, you'll be prompted to download it next time you fire the game up.

Lootathon Results in Epic Banning
When there's a goof-up online, and a big run on DLC that a game maker wanted you to pay tons extra to get, it's probably not a smart idea to go into that very same developer's official forums and sound the alarm about it. Not once, but twice. More » -

[Updated] Gold Lancer Removed; Consider Lootathon Over
OK, gang. I think the fun is over. Many of you pointed out that the Golden Lancer for Gears of War 2 is now either 99999 points or won't download. I tried to cue it up again and got the can't-download notice.
Then the lancer was stripped from my hard drive. But I showed them!!! I put it on a memory unit before logging in!!! Which means if I ever want to play Gears with my ill-gotten gun I'll probably have to do it offline, if that even works. My bad, I think I might have selected "move" rather than "copy." The gold lancer is indeed on both my drive and my memory unit, logged in, with no ill effects.Anyway, the early copy of Banjo, is now 99999 Microsoft points. Ditto anything else we mentioned here. I think we can consider the great Banjo Lootathon over. Everyone take a bow, we helped Microsoft work out some kinks in a new feature. Although, don't expect any thank-you notes, I'm sure. You try to do something nice ....
Rest of my original post is on the jump. Anything in strikethru is reprinted only for purposes of the record. Don't consider it operative. More »

Round Up
Frankenreview: Gears Of War 2
The original Gears of War hit the Xbox 360 like a freight train, bowling over critics and fans alike with it's gritty graphics, rough characters, and run, gun, and hide gameplay that seems to have taken over the shooter genre these days. Cliff Bleszinski's baby even managed to give Microsoft's golden boy Master Chief a run for his money, easily sharing a spot with the Halo series among the must-have titles for the system.
And now we come to number 2. Gears of War proved that Epic could deliver, but can they grow? Is this a bigger, better Gears game, or simply more of the same? Run for cover - here come the game critics. More »

Replica Gears Lancers Broken, Here's How You Fix 'Em
Having problems making your new replica Gears of War Lancer Assault Rifle go "pew pew pew"? You're not alone. Turns out there are a ton of people whose guns are kinda busted, thanks to a manufacturing error whereby every single gun had its battery connectors wired for Asian batteries, not US or European ones. Never knew there was any difference, but hey, there you go. Seems this meant that when you pulled the trigger, your batteries weren't doing anything, and your gun, it wasn't doing anything either. Makers NECA have come up with a workaround for the problem ("a small thin metal plate, with instruction sheet"), click through for details on how to get your hands on one (as well as the full statement). Epic Sinks Gears 2 Pirate/Modder in Court
A St. Louis modder/reseller brazen enough to advertise early copies of Gears of War 2 out in the open on Craigslist just got his ass handed to him in court. Technically, it's a settlement, but looking at the terms, this guy sued for peace with an unconditional surrender to Epic Games.
Roger Altmeyer and the "St. Louis Mod Shop" is barred from selling Gears of War 2 ever again. Furthermore, he'd been advertising modded Xboxes that would play it and other illegal copies of games online. He's out of that business too, for good. He also has to turn over all his remaining mod stock, any parts "capable of circumventing copyright restrictions," assist Epic in identifying others violating copyright restrictions, pay Epic some money and say he's real sorry, in public. My guess is lawyer fees is on top of that prize package too.
Epic spotted the ads and sued Altmeyer on Oct. 31. That means this sucker got resolved at the legal equivalent of warp 9. Epic's lawyer-mans said modders and pirates are increasingly a problem, but difficult to stamp out — unless they all but drive up to Cliffy B's front door and fire off a signal flare, which is about what Altmeyer did. Epic said the ads were "pretty hard to ignore." Another reason word-of-mouth is the best business.

Gears of Phwoar? Yes, The Daily Star Went There
According to Britain's Daily Star, page 3 T&A specialist Lucy Pinder (pictured) is a 360 fangirl. And runs a "league" for other page 3 girls, all of whom play "shoot-em-up" (their quotations, not ours) games. How on earth are The Daily Star (and not, uh, us?)privy to this kind of information? And who are they to assume she's talking about Gears of War 2 when she and her pals could be dedicated Raiden and Ikaruga players? They have "sources". "Sources" who tell them things like:
- Watch out next time you go online with your Xbox for a battle – you could be fighting Lucy. She takes NO prisoners and she takes it seriously.

Gears Of War 2: Two Million Sold
Bet you never saw this one coming, armchair sales fans. Microsoft just announced that Gears of War 2 has sold over 2 million copies worldwide since it's launch last week. Of that 2 million, a whopping 1.5 million had their stats tracked by the Xbox Live bean counters over the weekend. Those 1.5 million played 15 million hours worth of Gears 2 - which, on average, is a lot of Gears 2 - and unlocked 19 million achievements. No doubt Dude Huge and Chocolate Rein are, at this very moment, beside themselves.
