There's actually a pretty solid rumor (look on ubercharged.net) about Valve doing something of the sort, at least to some degree. Reaction is very mixed.
@deuxhero & Darkest Daze: I see where you're coming from. It was pretty repetitive and could get boring, but I really liked it. I guess it's just what you like in an RPG.
I remember when the creator posted this on the Steam forums. It was great to see him get the response that he did, especially somewhere where most ideas are attacked and torn to shreds on sight.
It's depressing to read those forums under most circumstances, but it was a nice break from the expected.
He's earned it. Not for the product (which I love) but for the genius behind it. It's like a pet rock only useful...something you just pull out of your ass for a laugh and before you know it you're rich.
@okenny :) ...building bridges (to hide under): Not sure if your second sentence was also intended as sarcasm, but if it wasn't, you should know that GMOD was released exclusively on STEAM (meaning there were never any boxed copies in stores).
@Kenny: No... no it wasn't sarcasm. And yeah... yeah I knew it was on Steam. I was trying to relay how surprised I was that we have concrete numbers on the amount of downloads come off of steam. Garry's Mod is a niche product and managed to get 300K worth of download. many popular Xbox Live Arcade and PSN download are considered ridiculously successful doing half that. Given these inferences, one can say that Steam is moving serious software sales; sales we may never know of.

On the sarcasm note people. There was clear hyperbole in the statement but I'm sorry if it came off to vague. I actually only made the LBP reference because GMod was one of the examples (along with many others) I've been putting on the table to state that LBP was by no means the first game of its type. I honestly assumed everyone was aware of that. You know what happens when one assumes....

It's not though, it's John Freeman from the Full-Life Consequences youtube series.
I wish it was Gordon Frohman though, that guy kept me entertained for years :)

Nevermind the fact that this is just a fancy Photoshop project. None of this is remotely real.

I'm actually surprised that we just saw numbers related to Steam sales. Has that ever happened?

It hurts me that I have to use the sarcasm tag from now on.
@elevenoverzero: That 6 cut deep though :( That's like an 8.9 on the IGN scale. I just mad a sarcastic statement not kill your cat :(

I know you were joking, but the comment reminded me of wankers screaming "Metroid ripped off Halo!" a few years back.

Now if only I had the skill to use it for something more complex than building trashcans that shoot watermelons...
