I'll trade them a ban on alcoholic drink ads if they ban political ads from ANY political party/PAC on video games PERIOD.
Betcha it wouldn't pass then, right?

The Bible has wine in it. Read the Gospels.

The fundamental idea behind this legislation is flawed, instead of banning such products; you should teach your young ones properly. It only enforces negative behavior and curiosity.

This whole "let's put the wool over the eyes" deal has bleeding heart bullshit all over it. To be fair, not too many people on the right are any better at this, either.

Oh God, why do they have to be illegal now?
WHY?!?!
01/03/09
I'm just saying...if we as a people are truly concerned about cutting douchebaggery off at its source that would be essential legislature.

E-T rated games is sometimes played by 12 year olds and they don't need to think its cool to drink that kind of stuff just yet!
real commerciels in games can be cool! But I think its a good idea to keep things like alcohol and tobacco out of it.

I'm not 100% against real commercials in-game as long as they are relevant to the game or my interests. e.g. If I see an add for tampons playing an EA sports game, I'm done with em, same goes for if I'm playing WoW and see an ad for Burger King.

On the other side of the token, I ALSO WANT AN INDEPENDENT INVESTIGATION ON THE OBAMA OFFICE'S INVOLVEMENT ON THE BLAGOVICH INCIDENT (FROM OUTSIDE OF THE GOVERNMENT RESOURCE). .How the press tried to push off an inner-office investigation as legitimate sure suprises me. That is a blatant insult to the public's intelligence.

Nooooooooooooo!!!!!!!!!!

This is probably why laws like this only work as far as punishing people with rights versus preventing anything.

It worked in the military and college dorms the World over!

Themed drinks are for morons with more money than brains.

I surely don't. Yuck.

*shrug*
It makes sense to me. It's the same as not putting beer and cigarette ads in teen magazines. If no one's actually putting them in kids' games yet, then I see no reason for the backlash on here since it's not going to affect anyone anyway.
So are all the people opposing this arguing FOR the ads? I don't exactly see it as an unfair restriction to freedom of adversising.
WE NOW RETURN TO SPONGEBOB SQUAREPANTS - BROUGHT TO YOU BY CORONA!

I don't mean to be critical of you're parenting, but I expect my kid to be more intelligent then that.
Also, the questions isn't that a game needs more alcoholic ads, it is that they weren't in games aimed at kids in the first place, and you could argue it encroaches in free speech.
That's a waste of time and money if you ask me. Especially when we have much more important things our tax payer money should be spent on. In the end I don't pay the government to parent my kids, that's my job.

My parents took the initiative on my "common sense" training and even struck enough of the fear of God in me not to fuck up and step out of line. I learned fairly early that ads were enticers, and that not everything were a good idea.
Hell, I remembered them even letting me try Budweiser at a young age. At the time, it tasted like what I recall to be like putting seltzer water and a mouthful of pennies on my mouth.
Needless to say, the trick worked, and I rarely drink now to this day. Besides, even my my teenage days, we all found Zima and Sun Country to be the weakest trendy thing out there. I have choicier words than this to describe it, but I don't want to offend anyone with that thought.
BOTTOM LINE: Lead by example and teach 'em while they are young, and you won't have that problem. Let the Government parent your kids, and you'll be setting them up for failure and dependecy issues in the long run.

They are syrupy, disgusting, and only really popular with underage kids.
Wine coolers for the loss.
